I would find it refreshing to hear the gun advocates say something like: Holy crap, we gotta figure out a way to make it harder for crazy people to get guns.

I would say that is as unrealistic as saying that we need to figure out a way to make it harder for criminals to get guns because crazy people are crazy not dumb.

Ban Guns in America, but not in the saner countries!

Americans have been proven too ridiculous to be in control of firearms!

This is the key point really.

I don't have a real position on gun control generally, but if people can't handle these weapons responsibly, then we really do need to address whether or not the freedom to bear arms (or a subset of arms to be fair) is worthwhile.

Licensing, training, background checks.

All of which the Orlando shooter had.

There is nothing you can do beyond that.

He was a security guard and loved the police, particularly the NYPD. He was a military enthusiast as well. What a jackass.

Of course there is. You can ban guns.

Do that, and the 300 million guns in private hands in the U.S. will suddenly evaporate into an environmentally-friendly vapor that smells of patchouli, and the smuggling lanes from South America (where, by coincidence, Taurus firearms and several other brands are manufactured) will suddenly close as if a ten-mile high iron wall suddenly appeared on the U.S. border from Baja California to well out in the Caribbean. The wall will magically stop firearms and, incidentally, bad drugs from coming in, but will allow the passage of poor, suffering people seeking freedom and a better life who just happen to unfortunately lack the requisite documents, as well as healthful healing substances.

Then Tinkerbell will sprinkle us all with fairy dust and Trump and Hillary will announce that they're not fit to be President and turn the job over to Bernie Sanders, or maybe Ellen DeGeneres, and wander off into the sunset hand in hand, singing Kum Ba Yah.

First the carriers and the subs then the airforce a short time later the ground forces will whither on the supply vine. By then the bankers will be comfortably bunked in thier next victims bowels.
