Nice try but wrong again. The only *valid* opinion is the correct one. Reference post#302. Just because we can't agree or come to a conclusion doesn't mean that all views are "incorrect" until we can determine which one is the correct one. The truth is independent of what we think and feel, therefore one viewpoint is correct and all views that contradict it are incorrect.
0/0 is indeterminate..
And just what is wrong with discussing religion, JLM? Everybody has an opinion, there is no way to prove anybody right or wrong, it is a perfect subject for discussion.
As to the purpose, humans don’t have any purpose; we are products of blind evolution. The only purpose we have in life is survival of the self and (an even stronger instinct) survival of the species. These instincts are hard wired into any species. Any actions human being take can be reduced to one of the two instincts, forget about religion, Ten Commandments, The Sura etc.
It is simple, JLM. We cannot see any purpose for life. So those who claim that there is a purpose, the burden of proof is upon them to prove that there is a purpose, it is not upon me to prove that there is no purpose (you cannot prove a negative anyway).
You've absolutely hit the nail on the head. 99% of religious fanatics all quote someone else, in other words just perpetuating the bullsh*t. "To be born again is to become as a child, to look at life with open, clear and unprejudiced eyes every day, as if we have never seen it before. Jesus would probably be as repulsed by what has become of his teachings as he was with the Pharisees. He said to them “You search the scriptures daily, for in them you think* you find life”.
Books can teach us nothing about life. They can only show us someone else’s perspective. To study life we just have to observe it as it unfolds around us and draw our own conclusions as to how it affects us and vise versa."
This is a perspective of mine. Just something to add to the mix.
So what? So does Scientific American. So do a lot of publishers that don't necessarily agree with the views of the authors whose works they print.Just because I may quote something from the Bible doesn't mean I agree with what the quote says.
*shrugs*It is a recognition.
Books give us frames of reference about life. It's up to us what we do with those references.Quoting Cliffy:

lol You mean Jesus Christ? There's no evidence the guy even existed. There were people writing manuscripts around long before that guy was purported to exist. You owe this freedom to Jesus.

As Allan Watts once said, religious and spiritual books are like fingers pointing the way. The mistake most people make is stop and suck on the finger, thinking that they will receive spiritual nourishment, instead of going in the direction the finger is pointing in.
Paul was an ego maniac cashing in a popular movement for his own glorification. He never met Jesus and misunderstood the message or bent it to his own prejudices. For Jesus, Paul was pointing his powerful finger .
