Just look at the amount of women in high-level (or even mid-level) executive positions and the pay they receive compared to the men in similar spots. I can't deny the world is changing and our generation has been a huge catalyst in that and our children are far less prone to sexism or racism because of us but there remains many complete societies where repression based on gender is the norm. We can wish it wasn't still so in the western world but just like the rampant racism still in the deep south oppression of women is still around too.

You might want to remember that little tidbit when we discuss the US & Canadian invasions of foreign nations where they bomb the crap out of civilians.

Now you are talking about war with its own set of rules, war is never pleasant and probably not too productive, but sometimes there's no choice. However the human toll has improved significantly since WWI, as they focus more on bombing infrastructure rather than people.

Those numbers are increasing each and every day, and with the advent of higher numbers of women (compared to men) in post secondary - those numbers will again increase.

So - that leaves us with an interesting future ahead of us. The old-boys network will be replaced by the old-girls club, more women than men in positions of power, etc..

Will men now be justified in flapping their arms and thumping their chests in hollering discrimination, equal opportunity, changing the signage on the Status of Women Fed gvt offices to Status of Men?

You see where I'm going here... This suggestion that women are being oppressed in contemporary society falls short relative to the realities of society today. Sure, inequalities exist today, as they will exist tomorrow and next year, but I don't buy the Oscar performances that cry foul about oppression in this day and age.

Put simply, it's an over-theatrical crock of sh*t

I don't think you actually know what personal responsibility means. It's obvious you mean it to be something else, or else why would you sneer at the thought of someone using personal responsibility to serve their best interests? That's practically the definition of the expression!

You should really talk about responsibility to others when you say personal responsibility. Again, when you say personal responsibility it's obvious that you really mean the moral dimension of sex, that a woman should have her agency removed when she engages in sex. When you say that personal responsibility for the consequences means to not look out for one's own interests, you very clearly indicate a subtextual desire to control female bodies.

In your wildest dreams. I couldn't care less what people decide to do with their own bodies, or in the case of pregnancy, the carton. I just get a little pissed out when the "carton" puts a higher value on itself than the contents.................generally speaking. As I keep saying there is an exception to every rule

When I say it sounds like you want to control female bodies, you probably shouldn't refute it by saying a women's body is a container with less value than its contents. Do I even have to argue with you? Just give you enough time and it seems like you'll just walk into your own misogyny.

So if ending the life of a potential human life is murder then so is killing human sperm and eggs. Everyone's a murderer. Interesting.

Reminds me of the joke after the local Priest caught a youngster maturating.

The Priest explained all and what a sperm does and hw it was a sin.

Weeks go by and the youngster eventually submits to his urges. All the time thinking of what the Priest told him.

After he ejaculated in his hand, he looks at it, licks his hand clean, swallows and states, you have a second chance.

A man happened upon two boys masturbating and admonished them that if they kept it up they'd go blind! One of them pipes up with "Oh we just want to do it until we have to wear glasses"

A right to an 80-year lifespan? Who has that? Are you suggesting that a fetus has a right that the post-born do not have, because I know of no place that considers an 80-year lifespan a right?

Yep, I sure goofed on that one, I should have said "a chance to continue living for 80-90 years". Sorry about that.-:)
