Yup .....and I once kiboshed a motion at a local union meeting to make a donation to the local NDP, much to the chagrin of the union president who had talked another member into making the motion since the president of a union isn't allowed to make a motion.

At the time the reason I gave....(and it is still valid)....that it was unfair to the members that vote for other parties, to have part of their dues going to a political party that they don't agree with....
And the majority (so high that they didn't even need to count the votes) agreed with me!
