I can't believe how the n.jersey/carolina game ended, it seemed like n. jersey was
just about to win it, under a minute to go, carolina scored and tied it, then they
scored another one and won it, everyone was stunned, so, that's it, the first round
is over.

carolina will play boston
washington will play pittsburg

That surprise you? You weren't paying close attention to Old Yogi:lol::lol: Didn't think he was talking about hockey too, did ya?:lol:

I'm kind of glad Carolina won it anyway, N.J. has had quite a few runs at the Stanley Cup over the years and even won a couple, they can practice up on their golf for awhile. Nice to have a contender from the Deep South.

Carolina has won the cup once, and I think they had the 'post' celebration in
the parking lot of the arena.
No one cares much about hockey there, just the people who show up for the
games, but, guess that's all that counts.

I'm just happy the Rangers lost. I didn't really care who won as long as the Habs and Rangers lost :p

Some really interesting matchups in the 2nd round. About the only pick that seems almost safe to me is Boston over Carolina... but if Cam Ward keeps it up like he has been even that could be in doubt.

Back to San Jose, they've tinkered a lot with all the failures in the post season they've had, including dumping a pretty decent coach in Ron Wilson. I think its time to blow it up and start fresh for the Sharks. Calgary is another team that I think needs to retool as well: I'd love to see Iggy win a Cup but he needs help in a big way, especially offensively.

Did I say I'm happy the Rangers are out? :p

Boston knew what it was doing when pawning Thornton off. He doesn't show a lot of heart in the playoffs.

As for Calgary, I would dump Keenan. Not sure why they got him in the first place. He had a decent run or two with Philly in the 80's, and won a cup with a team that didn't need a coach. Everything else he has done has been a disaster. He plays games with goalies heads and challenges a player's integrity. How friggin stupid is that? He wants the lime light and be looked upon as a genius. He won't allow credit for success to go to his players. If they lose it's someone's fault. If they win it's Keenan's "brilliance". All ego.

I like Vigneault's style. He is obviously tough on systems but when you think of the team he's the last person that comes to mind. He leads quietly and gets a lot out of his players. Keenan leads loudly and doesn't get the same cohesive effort from his team.

I say we lynch him, I'll get the horses, you get the guns, meet you at dry gulch.
and oh, shadow can bring the rope, we'll do it up in grand forkes, jlm can
find a good hanging tree, (oh brother, have I been watching too many westerns
or what, just finished watching 'young guns two'.), and juan can build the pine
box, and when it's all over, we'll put him on the nearest train 'east'.
I'm sure we'll get many thank-you notes from the calgary flames players.

Wouldn't Iggy look slick and handsome in a canuck jersey. He definitely needs
lots of help, looks like cammaleri will be gone, bertuzzi is useless, and they
are stuck with jokkanen, cause they gave him such a big contract, no one else
will want him.
I like Vineaults style too, I really respect him, and the media really like him,
he is an honest man, and a dedicated coach, and a great personality, he sees
the funny side of life, and seems to enjoy being a coach. He was really
solid all through the slump, and had lots of support from gillis, who I also
really like. I think Canucks finally have a management system that is solid for
a change, it took a long time, and it took an agent, (who understands players)
to get it in order.

Keep saying it, it's music to my ears.;-)

Made my fiance laugh by singing "Ding dong the witch is dead" with Avery's name instead of the witch :p

And I laughed that it was Floater Fedorov who scored the winner too. Talk about irony: the man who has made a career of only playing hard in his contract renewal years with the biggest goal of the Caps' season. Beautiful shot though, right on Lundqvist's weakness (high on glove side).

I think Keenan was the wrong move for the Flames. I agree Jim Playfair (love the name!) wasn't the answer but I think they could have done better than Iron Mike. Ted Nolan might have been (or still be) the fit with the type of team Calgary has/had, with his preference and ability to get along with and get a lot out of veteran players. 'm not liking the Jokinen trade right now for the Flames either: talk about a big money man who disappeared when he was needed most. And for all people like to hate on Bertuzzi, he looked pretty decent for Calgary this year (44pts).

I'm looking forward to the 2nd round: some potentially great matchups if they teams can keep the intensity up like it was in the first round.

Boston - Carolina - I like the Bruins but you can't count out Ward and Staal out
Washington - Pittsburgh - battle of the superstars (I'm liking the Pens)
Detroit - Anaheim- the NHL version of the Beauty and the Beast. I think Detroit wins in the end
Vancouver - Chicago - has the making of an epic series. I don't think the Canucks have the talent out front that the 'Hawks do but Luongo is the great equalizer. This series will be all about secondary scoring: who has the best will win (I think Chicago in a long one).

I think the Canucks home ice advantage will work for them in this series but she could go 7 with a couple of O.T. games. Then hopefully it's against the Ducks.

I guess we will find out over the next week or so which team is best but right this moment, the Canuck's top scorers all have better plus/minus ratings than Chicago's.
I think Luongo will also give the Canucks an advantage. I don't know if this is my head or my heart talking but I will say, Canucks in five.

Yeah, Bertuzzi's play wasn't too bad, but he still has that bad habit of 'flying by', when he should stop and be part of the play, and too many blind passes that
land right on the opposition stick, but when his 'fancy' style does work it looks
good.

Boston - Carolina - I like the Bruins but you can't count out Ward and Staal out

Yeah, Carolina could beat Boston, the way they are playing right now, and
if ward continues his stellar play.

Detroit will win as long as Osgood shows up.

I can't predict this one, but vancouver has better discipline and defense, and we are a fast team too.

Chicagos strategy will be to fly all over us right out of the starting gate, 'because'
we have sat out so long, and might be rusty, and that could work, hope not, because don't want to see canucks having to climb back into this tournament,
after a first game loss at home.

For the Canucks…

For the second time in his National Hockey League career Roberto Luongo has helped his team advance to the second round of the playoffs only this time, he’s hoping there will be a better result when it is all said and done. The last time the 6’3”, 205 lbs. netminder made it the Western Conference Semi-Final, he was his usual brilliant self stopping 174 out of 187 shots over five games but unfortunately, his team was ousted by the eventual Stanley Cup Champions Anaheim Ducks. The 30-year old will be looking to continue his torrid play from the first round against the Blues. He posted a perfect 4-0 record in Round One with a scintillating 1.15 GAA and a .962 save percentage. He also netted his first career playoff shutout in Game 2.

The Montreal, Quebec native appeared in three games against the Blackhawks during the regular season posting a 2-1-0 record with a 2.36 GAA and a .923 save percentage to go along with one shutout. In 16 career playoff games, Luongo has posted a 9-7 record with a 1.63 GAA and a .946 save percentage along with one shutout. For the Blackhawks...

For the third time in his NHL career and with his second team, Nikolai Khabibulin has advanced to the second round of the NHL playoffs and he’s definitely hoping it’s been worth the long wait. The last time the 6’1”, 209 lbs. netminder made it past the opening round, he ended up leading the Tampa Bay Lightning all the way to the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals where he won hockey’s ultimate prize for the first and only time to date in his career. Coincidentally, that also happened to be the last time he participated in the Stanley Cup Playoffs prior to this season with the ‘Hawks. The 36-year old put up some solid, albeit ordinary, numbers during the opening round with a 4-2 record with a 2.29 GAA and a .921 save percentage. He did, however, end Round One stopping 62 of 64 shots in his final two games.

The Sverdlovsk, Russia native appeared in two games versus Vancouver in the regular season going 0-2-0 with a 4.87 GAA and a .800 save percentage. He has not recorded a win against the Canucks since January 26, 1998 while as a member of the Phoenix Coyotes. In 63 career playoff games, Khabibulin has posted a 35-27 record with a 2.29 GAA and a .921 save percentage along with six shutouts.

OK folks, here we go into round two for canucks and chicago, should be a good
series, both teams are high energy movers and have the personell to get the
job done. Don't know how the canucks have prepared for the 'high intensity'
right off the bat, but they better, or they will find themselves behind early
in this game. If they can get through one period without goals against, they
will find their legs, and can match chicago player for player and battle for
the first win of the series.

Don't think Taylor Pyatt will play yet, he isn't a very intense, fast player anyway, so I would imagine Vineault will keep him practicing till he thinks he can keep
up with the play and make a difference in a positive way.
I'm sure chicago will try to pepper luongo early in the game, as he hasn't played
for awhile, and they will try to shake him up a little, by getting a couple of
goals behind him right away.
For the canucks, the first period of this series could be the most important
time for them in this second round.

I'm looking forward to all of the second round games, all over the nhl.
Pittsburg/washington will be very emotional and fast.
Detroit/Anaheim will be 'smooth against tough', should be interesting.
Boston/Carolina is a 'question mark' for me, but Carolina could win it, if
their goalie keeps up his recent play.
I won't 'just' be watching the canucks.

GO CANUCKS GO

Home ice advantage is key, as long as you win your first game, and icing on the
cake if you win number two.
It really helped us against St. Louis, as the wins we had late in the season to
put us in third place, were like 'gold'.

Ho ho Kesler just scored a dandy, now the game should be theirs if they can just play it cool and keep the puck in Chicago's end for 11/2 periods.

OK, now, lets see them take it home in the 3rd, but don't relax yet anybody, things can reverse so fast at times, it can make your head spin, lots of patience
and good defense now, and no penalties please.
