With the Florida Capitol no longer asking gun owners to secure firearms, the Senate has installed panic buttons for lawmakers and their staff.

TALLAHASSEE — Metal detectors at the entrance of the state Capitol help protect Florida lawmakers. Security personnel watch over every committee meeting.
But two months after a new law made it easier to bring concealed guns into the Capitol, the Senate security force has installed special alert buttons on the phone of every senator and staffer.
At the touch of a button, an unseen officer in the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Office can instantly monitor a conversation in Senate offices and respond if needed.
“Instead of reversing what we did, we’re resorting to panic buttons,” said Senate Democratic Leader Nan Rich of Weston, who opposed the new gun law. “It’s unnerving. My staff is very nervous.”
For years, Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents asked concealed weapons permit holders entering the Capitol to surrender their weapons and store them in a police lock box. If they refused, FDLE agents would notify the sergeant’s office, which would assign a guard to follow the person through the building.

This is the real reason why OWS has failed:

Nice quote about free men and their guns.... - YouTube

From the movie ''Johnny Tremain'' ~ One of our greatest Founding Fathers Dr Joseph Warren on why the Patriots refused to surrender their guns: "because free men will never consent to give up their means of defending their liberties''.

As I said before, liberals refuse to recognize that the First Amendment does not exist in a vacuum. It must be fully integrated with all Bill of Rights to have full effect. Therefore, they must exercised their Second Amendment rights. Conservatives fail to understand that the right to keep and bear weapons was not intended to stop or prevent crime - it was intended to prevent government abuses. This is why the Arizona Patriots was correct when they protected Occupy Phoenix from the police.

So yes, gun control is completely useless. That is, useless in protecting the public from crime and from government intrusion.

Colpy ~ how do you feel about the fact that the biggest supporters of the gun registry is the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police?

CACP is a political organization.......

In my old job I worked closely with local cops involved with training. Although it was not a major topic of conversation, none of the three I dealt with had much use for the LGR.

Oh....and companies that contracted to the LGR donated over 100,000 dollars to CACP.....can you say "conflict of interest"?????

In other words, in any case, I am unhappy with the police having influence on the imposition of laws.

Merry Christmas Colpy! ;)

And a Very Merry Christmas to you, Petros!!!

The reason that the police chiefs support the registry is very simply because of probably no more than two reasons: 1. Most of these chiefs are in large cities where the citizens are on average eighty years old, freak out at the mention of gun and have a misguided notion encouraged by the chiefs that they are better protected with the registry, the citizens therefore think that the chief is seeing to their safety, and 2. Secondly the chief does not want to be chief forever, he wants to be mayor or town counsellor or such and he knows that this will only happen if the citizens think he is the greatest chief possible. It is also possible that the chief is getting a kickback for supporting the registry.

Police departments have always been on the side of Weapons registration, even here in the States. Now I know of no groups in favor of gun registration, except possibly some women's and trans-gender groups. :)

Nope. But you did open your yap making accusatons I wouldn't follow through. With only three days left LGR won't be recindended by Jan 1. I let the respectable fellow who I did bet with off the hook.

Merry Christmas da Sleeper.

Northern Ontario,
The post of mine that you quoted was about you being inconsistent as to where you would be for a month.
The one who will really be happy that Colpy will be missing is GoreAbfet and EAO because he keeps handing them back their ass...
Admit it you're gonna miss Colpy as much as the rest of us because of that...

Merry Christmas to you and to your family and best wishes in the new year...

Well, A HAPPY NEW YEAR to all the good folks here on Canadian Content.

I enjoy you all, even the ones I swear at........

Now, as those of you who have actually read any of this thread may know, I made a wager with Petros back awhile ago. the wager was that if the Long Gun Registry was not killed by the New Year, I would take 30 days off from posting on this site, and if it WAS dead, he would do so.

Well, it ain't dead. Yet. I may have been correct about the gov't's intentions, but I wasn't right enough.

Despite the fact I goaded him into the wager in the first place, Petros graciously released me from the necessity of taking the time off. I appreciate the gesture, but no matter, I'm gonna disappear anyway. I have things to do this January, and hanging out here with my thumb up my arse doesn't get them done.

So I'll see be talking to all you people the first of February......just in time for the return of Parliament!!!

Enjoy!

Oh....I'll be lurking, keeping notes.....maybe even send a PM or two.....

The Ghost of Crisis Past...lol

I like your post Colpy. Not because it means you're taking time off, but rather for sticking to your guns.

Good on you! That shows some integrity. The registry is a dead man walking though, figuratively.

Well, hey, I took most of the past year off, I got a lot of stuff done, travelled a bit, (for personal reasons for a change). Got an attitude adjustment, found out how much less of a nanny state Deuschland is than we are, drank beer in public, rode a bike without a helmet, all legally. Lost a bet, won a battle, so what, live a little, you'll come back better. There is still the matter of the more oppressive things about Bill C-68 that have to be dealt with.

This forum is a bit of an emotional drain, time to re-charge. Read, but don't post, it is most therapudic, the not posting part, you aren't obliged to defend yourself. Enjoy the time off, you'll feel better for it.

Cheers. Happy New Year.
