clearly you are gullible. The bullet from an uncontained cartridge did not fly with precision just inches above the ground to severe a tendon. he has a better chance of being struck by lightning during a sunny day.

You don't know about the danger of rounds "cooking off" in a fire?

Wow.

when a round cooks off in a fire, the release in gases is much different than if it is contained in a rifle. Don't ask me how I know but at the end of the night - i spent the night taking cover, btw - i witness all the casings within a few feet from the fire pit, and the bullet has a relatively higher mass to exposed surface ratio to the expanding gases...they could not be found but likely traveled a shorter distance than the casings. furthermore, not one of the casings ripped open like a grenade, no tear, no rupture, nada.

now am I saying it is safe? Absolutely not! I spent the night hiding and pissed off that they were doing this.

what am i saying? I'm saying the little brother's story is bullshit

I have to say that finding discarded live rounds from a military exercise sounds like bs, but who knows.

clearly, Curious Cdn has never worked with dynamite in a farmers field. If you don't contain the release of gases and you just set it next to the boulder that you want to destroy, the dynamite wont even blow the dust off the rock.

But, drill a hole and pack hole after inserting the dynamite, thereby containing the gases, and it will blow that boulder into thousands of pieces.

I have to say that finding discarded live rounds from a military exercise sounds like bs, but who knows.
it is also exponentially more likely bs when the youth doesnt say 'hey everyone, look at what I found!'

My experience with the military is that every round is accounted for.

Well, it actually happened, so you just learned something new.

My experience with the military is that every round is accounted for.

It was a sloppy mess. They were militia manoevers west of Montreal in a sandy-wooded area West of Montrael island called Hudson, neighbouring on St.Lazare. The Scouts used the same woods (probably still do). The guilty unit would either be the Royal Montreal Regiment, the Black Watch or the Hussars ... don't know which ones did it. They left live 7.62mm rounds on the ground and even a practise grenade! Some NCO should have been sacked for that and may very well have been. Sloppy soldiering and sloppy counting ... Every time that I shot, I had to account for everything round, always. Maybe to avoid crap like that.

I have to say that finding discarded live rounds from a military exercise sounds like bs, but who knows.

Sorry... not BS.

By the way, what motivation could I possibly have for making a story like that up? Seriously. Think it through. I gain nothing but when pricks like you start calling me a liar, You gain another enemy on here. I'm sick to death of bring trolled. Most of the trolls on here are a marble or two short. So apparently are you, Hoid.

I know a guy who used to hide a couple of .22 rounds ( lol, minus lead, sealed with wax) in some logs to see who was stealing his firewood for their campfires down the bay.
:)
worked freakin great.

No one ever stole his firewood again after the tale of the first time got around.

Sorry to get put on your enemies list but I just find it difficult to believe.

How was it determined where the ammo was from and what happened as a result?

If there was an injury caused by discarded military ammo I would expect a pretty big news story and lawsuit.

I don't care whether you believe it of not. I told you a true story. I was also in the military a decade after this happened and I am disgusted at the lax, half-assed discipline. If you think that's bad, the lunatic that shot up the Quebec legislature had a stolen firearm from a reserve armoury and so, I believe, did the guy that ran over the two soldiers in St.Jean, a couple of years ago. Tell me that someone didn't effect up in a major way, losing track of a rifle or two. People screw up.

By the way, I passed through Valcartier about six months after a grenade went off in a shed full of Cadets. The damage could still be seen as the cordon around the shack was still there. Shit happens. Soldiers screw up. Done units are sloppy.

PS. You remember news stories from 1966-67 like that? I'm not sure that it reached the news, for that matter and you have to wonder how many similar incidents don't.

You were not there. You don't know that it is a true story. Get over it.
