Doug Ford creates simulated news to counter media that ‘isn’t going to give us a fair shake’

A microphone-toting reporter stands by the side of the road, her hair whipped by the wind, as if breathlessly reporting breaking news. Clips show Doug Ford addressing the media at a press event. There are interviews with “ordinary citizens” at an auto body shop and a pub, shots of concerned voters at a town hall-style meeting.

The report on the Ontario Conservative Leader’s electricity-rates announcement this week looked and felt like an actual TV-news item.

But the video was not produced by a television station or working journalists.

It was one of several generated in recent days by the Ford campaign itself, a seemingly unprecedented way to showcase his message before the June 7 election — and compete with real news coverage that tends not to be so glowingly positive.

Playing the part of the reporter in all of the videos Lyndsey Vanstone, Ford’s executive assistant and, until recently, his press secretary.

The simulated news items, posted on Facebook, have been viewed as many as 732,000 times each, and generated hundreds of shares.

“I think this is a first, or at least a first in Canada,” said Brett James, partner with the Sussex Strategy Group and a veteran Conservative consultant. “Part of me thinks, ‘Wow, what took people so long?’ … I think it’s an effective format.”

Behind it all is a Ford campaign manager with both partisan and television experience. Kory Teneyke was a press secretary to ex-Prime Minister Stephen Harper, and head of the now-defunct conservative Sun TV network.

(LOL, They weren't magic beans, heh heh, they were just jube jubes )

I wouldn't be surprised after the way Brown got trashed...I think his fakenews lawsuit will bury at least one TV nutwerks. As I said before, there are some people who are very concerned by the UNfactual reporting that occurred there and who paid for it...

You really should see a psychiatrist, Cliffy. . Go voluntarily, before someone talks to the health authorities about you.

Who is stupid enough to believe the news is 30 seconds long and stuffed between Nissan Rogue and Tide commercials?

It's hardly fake news. He is using a format that will ensure his msg gets through since the msm won't. There's nothing fake about it so the headline here is itself "fake".

In case you don't know MF fake news is false news, not that you would know the difference.

Arsenal have been relegated and Bolton Wanderers will be promoted if they beat Nottingham Forest tomorrow.

If you can't tell the difference between a slick 30 second political ad and an actual news story, you probably shouldn't vote.
Oh and uh flossy? Since you hate fake news so much, I do hope you plan on apologizing for all the fake news reports about the so-called Trump/Russian collusion that you posted. Of course anyone who doesn't have a fridge temp IQ and doesn't suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome knew it was a load of shit from day 1.
Notice how quickly the whole Russian thing fell by the wayside once this Stormy Daniels stuff came to light. This is the "sword" the democrats think will fell Trump. I don't know about anyone else but of the two, colluding with the Russians would be the killer, not the fact he bunted some porn star who was paid off to keep quiet about it.

Two: the fact that the Russian thing is now part of a lawsuit says to me they have zero concrete criminal evidence of this alleged collusion so they're taking a crack at civil court where circumstantial evidence is acceptable evidence.

But yeah, keep pushing fake news there buddy while you laughingly whine about the scourge of fake news.

Simulated news reports is a common campaign ad strategy. Used by all parties at one point or another. Usually used to focus on what you are doing not 'how bad is the other guy' strategy.
