Texas Cut Fire Department Spending By 75%

http://www.rawstory.com/rawreplay/2011/09/texas-cut-fire-department-funding-by-75-percent-this-year/

Under Gov. Rick Perry (R) this year, Texas slashed state funding for the volunteer fire departments that protect most of the state from wildfires like the ones that have recently destroyed more than 700 homes.
Volunteer departments that were already facing financial strain were slated to have their funding cut from $30 million to $7 million, according to KVUE.
The majority of Texas is protected by volunteer fire departments. There are 879 volunteer fire departments in Texas and only 114 paid fire departments. Another 187 departments are a combination of volunteer and paid.
For that reason, aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) could be more important than ever to the state where wildfires have recently been raging.
At a press conference Monday, Perry promised to seek federal disaster relief and said that FEMA would be in the state by Wednesday.
While the Texas governor has been highly critical of FEMA in the past, he told CBS’ Erica Hill Tuesday that now was not the time to worry about reforming the agency.

Naturally, flip flop Perry won't refuse any Federal dollars to bail him out.

If Perry were to win America would be like Albania in a few years, he is a Bush in disguise.
If Palin wins America will be laughed off the world stage
Should Michele win the stock market will collapse over night
and if Mitt Romney wins he will give Obama a run for his money but he still won't win.

There is no one in the Republican Party sane enough to lead, they are all watching the
lunatic fringed, the Tea Party, and they are afraid of them instead of putting them in their
place. This happened in the fifties when McCarthy raised his ugly actions and unleashed
them on the American people for political gain. In the end all this cam back to haunt him.

Again the Republicans have gone mad instead of being an alternative. The Democrats
will win by default, as there is no serious alternative. Remember in the sixties, the Birch
society made sure the Democrats won. It never ends people like Perry burn out pretty
fast when they get to the main stage of federal politics.

Yes it is sure lunacy that the tea party wants their governments to live within their means.
Spending deficits up to 100% of gdp is much saner, very sustainable also.

I dont care if they pray, but if they deny scientific facts and go for superstitious belief systems instead-yes I think they should not be leading a country. Maybe a church group. If his solution to concrete problems he is responsible to fix is praying rather than action, then I'd say he is incompetent.

50-100 years ago or more it would be understandable to not believe in evolution as there was little evidence for it and other theories. Denying evolution now is like the Catholic Church denying a heliocentric model when confronted with evidence in the time of Galileo.

In other words... you're moving the goal post.

I highly doubt that Perry's solutions to our country's problems will be simply to pray.

Yes it is sure lunacy that the tea party wants their governments to live within their means.

PGS... they're simply not listening and they won't listen.

Yes it is much better to tar and feather your opponents than to actually listen to what they say.

Yes, Perry is such a strong fiscal conservative...living within Texas' means apparently means using Federal Stimulus funds to balance the last two Texas budgets, spending stimulus funds on recurring state expenses....

But then in another breath he rails against the stimulus funds, because to be a Tea Party candidate you only need the talking points apparently.

Good you should want him to be the rebublican candidate as he sounds totally unelectable.
Whatever that has to do with taxed enough already I don't know.

It doesn't have anything to do with taxed enough already...you were talking about living within means, I was simply stating facts about Governor Perry's record for living within Texas' means. He used Federal stimulus to do so, after railing against the ill-conceivability of the stimulus....

In today’s Republican Party ‘in spite of’ is not the phrase we need. Ignorance and lack of education are positive qualifications, bordering on obligatory. Intellect, knowledge and linguistic mastery are mistrusted by Republican voters, who, when choosing a president, would apparently prefer someone like themselves over someone actually qualified for the job.

Um, and Obama is "qualified?" How? He's never even held a real "job" - he was a "community organizer" whatever the hell that means, so it's not just the Republicans. Both parties are totally out to lunch!

This is very comical. You open up talking about ignorance, and then proceed to denigrate someone because of your own ignorance.

Hmm, I guess that explains Stephen Harper.
