Global Warming ‘Greatest Scam in History’

Not my day. I've been saying that all along - along with words like "natural earth cycle" and "snake-oil salesperson" ... and water vapour is a greenhouse gas.

Global warming never met the blizzard blowing outside my windows today :lol:

Yep, it's hard to know what sh*t to believe (there's some sh*t in all of it methinks) Just heard on CBC yesterday by a reliable source, that there is big time melting of the glaciers in Greenland, like one is slipping down the mountain at the rate 14 km. in one year. I think that may be a legit problem.

We have been having a "cold spell" here on VanIsle for about 10 days now with no let up in site. Our temperatures won't sound cold to anyone not from here but when you are surrounded by ocean, even -5 is very cold. How many times have you heard (while growing up) welllll in the winter of 55 or in the summer of 1949 blah blah blah. Last summer we went through a particularly hot summer for this area. This winter we have yet to have a flake of snow but it's much colder than usual. I think in years to come, people will say wellll in the summer of 09 or in the winter of 09-10 blah, blah, blah

The announcement was made by EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson — the same official who admitted under oath in July that no matter what the U.S. does about carbon emissions, it will have little impact on global CO2 levels if China and India don't limit their output.
And those two countries have made it clear: While they may make politically correct pledges to cut emissions, they will not sign any binding agreement that will force them to do so.

That has always been the case. That is why they have been given the under developed nation status. No matter how much the world howls India and especially China will ignore them. Every parent knows to ignore a whining child. The U.S has not realized that yet. We have a lot to learn from India and China.

Our contribution is 3% of the yearly flux, an important distinction, which by now means that ~30% of the carbon in the atmosphere came from human industry and land-use changes.

It makes up a tiny portion of gases in the atmosphere, but that doesn't mean anything by itself. Small amounts of mercury can cause damage to your brain. But it is the dominant greenhouse gas in the upper atmosphere. The more energy that is trapped in the upper atmosphere, the less that escapes to space. Carbon in the upper atmosphere is in ppm quantities, in some cases higher than at ground level, while water vapour is anywhere from 1-10 ppb in the stratosphere.

Understanding the greater context matters a great deal.

The science of climate change draws on fundamental research from an increasing number of disciplines, many of which are represented here. As professional scientists, from students to senior professors, we uphold the findings of the IPCC Fourth Assessment Report, which concludes that ‘Warming of the climate system is unequivocal’ and that ‘Most of the observed increase in global average temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations’.

Wether global warming is man made thing or not should not be the issues. Global warming is happening. The question should be "What are we going to do about it". Shall we just drive around in our SUV's waiting for the end of our civilization or should we put all this human intelligence to use and try to reverse or modify it's effects. It's not like we can just up and move as a species. At least not yet anyway.

As to what we can do about climate change - absolutely nothing. What we can do is try to clean up the pollution in our own backyards so to speak. We can work to clean up our water, air and land.

The data has been supplied by the half dozen different outfits that actually strew instrumentation around between ocean and space. The globe is warming except for a few people that look at the few anomalies there are to stir up the mud and those that just have opinion with little support for the opinion. Oh, there are those that look at a short term cold spot and say global warming is over, too; as in, "It was damned cold here yesterday in shazbot, Manitoba. The globe is cooling." Most of the big debate/debacle is about whether humans had a hand in it or not.


Sure there has been anomalies in the trend. Temperatures fluctuate for Pete's sake. The temperature in Podunk, Missouri for a week is NOT indicative of long-term global trend in climate. It is merely the weather for that week in Podunk. For that matter, a two or 3 month cooler-than-normal summer for the USA is not indicative of global climate trend. It has an effect on the mean average, yes, but it no more signifies global climate trends than I am a Muslim. lol
