D'oh indeed.

A teenage friend of Trayvon Martin was forced to admit today in the George Zimmerman murder trial that she did not write a letter that was sent to Martin’s mother describing what she allegedly heard on a phone call with Martin moments before he was shot.

In a painfully embarassing moment, Rachel Jeantel was asked to read the letter out loud in court.

“Are you able to read that at all?” defense attorney Don West asked.

Jeantel, head bowed, eyes averted whispered into the court microphone, “Some but not all. I don’t read cursive.”

It sent a hush through the packed courtroom.

‘Star Witness’ in Zimmerman Trial Testifies: ‘That’s Real Retarded, Sir’

As the murder trial of George Zimmerman entered its fourth day on Thursday, the prosecution’s “star witness” Rachel Jeantel — the friend Trayvon Martin was talking to on the phone moments before he was killed — dominated headlines with her testimony.

One of the more memorable moments came when Zimmerman’s defense attorney asked her if Trayvon perhaps lied to her because he didn’t want her to know if he decided to assault Zimmerman that night.
“That’s real retarded, sir. That’s real retarded to do that, sir. Why on earth– Trayvon did not know [Zimmerman],” Jeantel replied.

Actually, she does.

Although I think her testimony helped the defense......

Yes, unfortunately it probably did. Classism runs rampant at trials, as is proven by incarceration rates. Illiteracy is seen by the literate as a lack of trustworthiness rather than what it is... a lack of literacy.

Why limit myself to an entire country? I assume on this forum I am addressing Canadians, but I'd just as soon tell all Americans to stop treating this murder trial like a political contest between Democrats and Republicans.
It's too late. Once a people become decadent there is no going back. The loss of character is permanent.

Once I would have been in tears as I type these words. But all the tears are gone. BaalsTears.

I wonder if Rachel Jeantel is a product of the American public school system?

The problem for Zimmerman is the 911 operator told him not to follow Martin
Zimmerman was armed and once you go in pursuit the self defence verdict is
in trouble.
Personally, if someone like Zimmerman came at me on the street I would fight
him too. In fact if anyone came at me on the street I would fight assuming this
person was attacking, accusing or attempting to hold me for whatever reason.
I am not young anymore but I once operated nightclubs and bars and I would
do as much damage as possible if attacked.
In Martin's case I think he was a seventeen year old kid and he fought back
Zimmerman should not have followed him for any reason and the comments
made were documented by 911. This isn't about whether you like Zimmerman
or Martin its about the law and self defence is out the window if you go in pursuit.
The real serious reason for trying to make this go away is the fact the gated
community hired this guy and he was armed. If he is found guilty, the civil suit
to follow won't be against Zimmerman alone but the gated community and it will
be in the multi millions. Its going to be interesting.

yes and literacy is not a sign of intelligence...she understands what cursive means, and could articulate that, she is not stupid... but the jury who are literate may not understand that

You need to listen to the tapes:

George Zimmerman 911 call about Trayvon Martin UnRedacted - YouTube

And to understand the following:

1. A dispatcher's instructions have no authority.

2. Even if they had authority "We don't need you to do that" hardly ranks as an order.

3. Even if it were an order, with legal authority, Zimmerman answers "OK". and there is no sign of shortness of breath in the continuing conversation to indicate GZ is still following Martin.

4. Even if Zimmerman WERE following Martin, following someone is NOT illegal...........GZ was behaving in a lawful manner.

5. Even if GZ confronted Martin and asked him what he was doing, that is still completely legal, GZ would still have been acting in a completely lawful manner.

Then what are you asking for?
I was interested in the reasoning that led you to think that the son of a one-percenter like Obama would talk like Martin, a lad who occupied a considerably less exalted position on the socioeconomic ladder.

When you explained that you were making a play on words with the look like/talk like juxtaposition, my curiosity was satisfied.

Thank you.
