As Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne might say, given her propensity for wasting our money, “What’s another billion?”
This time, a billion dollars is the amount the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE) says the Wynne government wasted last year alone dumping clean energy down the drain.
OSPE past president Paul Acchione explained the culprit is “curtailment ... an industry term that means the power was not needed in Ontario, and could not be exported, so it was dumped.
“It’s when we tell our dams to let the water spill over top, our nuclear generators to release their steam, and our wind turbines not to turn, even when it’s windy,” Acchione said.
“These numbers show that Ontario’s cleanest source of power is literally going down the drain because we’re producing too much ... it’s an unnecessary waste of beautiful, clean energy, and it’s driving up the cost of electricity.”
(Much of this mess is driven by the need to make room on the power grid for the mouldy green energy so beloved of LIE-berals! LIE-berals have agreed to buy any and all green energy produced by friends of the LIE-beral Party- at rates hundreds of percent above the cost of other forms of generation- and LIE-berals do not care that we have NO WAY to shut off the production of mouldy green even when we have way more power than we need! LIE-beral friends ARE ENTITLED and to shut off their flow of gravy for any reason would be LIE-beral/WRONG!)
This is distinct from the money Ontario loses when it sells electricity to Quebec and the U.S. at a loss because we have a huge energy surplus.

The situation is so bad — according to a 2015 report by Auditor General Bonnie Lysyk, Ontario pays twice the U.S. average for wind power and 3.5 times for solar power — that the basic theory of successful investing, buy low, sell high, has been turned on its head in Ontario.
Here, our Liberal government buys high and sells low, which we all pay for through our hydro bills.
OSPE says the root problem is the politicization of energy policy.
(The most outrageous part of LIE-beral policy is that our green energy is actually producing MORE air pollution- NOT LESS! First we have the huge plume of green house gas to produce all the concrete and steel for wind towers and support towers to connect to the main power grid; plus the array of toxic chemicals needed to make the carbon fibre wind blades; then add in the fuel for natural gas fired generators that MUST be kept FULLY fired up 24/7 and ready to take over at a moments notice because the costly green energy is so unreliable! LIE-berals have turned our electrical generation system into a VAST slush fund for LIE-beral pals- WITHOUT actually doing anything to clean the air!)

(Water powered generators are the cheapest form of generators but they are also the easiest to SHUT OFF- just a flip of the switch and water spills away- with the added bonus that water generators need the smallest work force to operate since the technology is so simple. But a nuclear power station- with highly skilled staff- takes three days to go safely from idle speed to full power and another three days to go back to idle again- no fast reaction there! And thanks to the greed and incompetence of Atomic Energy scientists, our govt has hired specialists from Britain and France to run the nuclear plants- and their corporate bosses EXPECT a return on their investment in our system! So for reasons of political expediency AND LIE-beral GREED, the cheapest and cleanest form of electrical generation-water power- is being DUMPED!)
Lysyk in 2015 — completing work started by her predecessor, Jim McCarter, in 2011 — reported that Ontario paid $9.2 billion extra for 20-year contracts with wind and solar power developers because it sweetened the deals, despite the fact its own experts said its existing procurement program was successfully doing the job.
Even worse, Ontario didn’t need wind and solar power to replace coal-fired electricity, which the Liberals actually did with nuclear power and natural gas.
The ultimate absurdity is that the Liberals continue to sign new wind and solar contracts, despite the province’s massive energy surplus, caused in part by the loss of manufacturing jobs due to skyrocketing electricity prices.
If you think the Liberals don’t know what they’re doing, other than kicking the crisis down the road by subsidizing electricity prices to the tune of $24 billion, which could eventually cost Ontarians up to $93 billion, according to Ontario Financial Accountability Officer Stephen LeClair, you’re right.
(Ontari-owe LIE-berals remain dedicated to their mouldy green energy slush fund. LONDON, Ont. — Health officials have issued an alert, saying nine people have died in an ongoing invasive group A streptococcus outbreak in the London, Ont., area.
The outbreak was declared more than 18 months ago and the Middlesex-London Health Unit says more than 132 cases of infection have been reported since April 1, 2016.
Of the cases, 22 per cent required treatment in intensive care, 15 per cent had Streptococcal Toxic Shock Syndrome and 15 per cent had necrotizing fasciitis — also called “flesh-eating” disease.
Associate Medical Officer of Health Dr. Gayane Hovhannisyan says about half of the cases have been among injection drug users and/or people without access to stable housing.

Symptoms depend on the site of the infection and may include fever, chills, sore throat, dizziness, confusion, severe pain, redness or swelling around a wound or injured area.
Hovhannisyan says the alert has been issued because the health unit is seeing an increase in infections among people who have no connection to the outbreak in people who inject drugs or don’t have stable housing.

“We need a better understanding of what’s happening, which is why we’ve issued this alert,” she said Monday in a news release.
The bacteria are spread by direct contact with nose and throat secretions from an infected person, or by direct contact with infected wounds or sores on the skin.
While the infections can occur year-round, the health unit said Monday that the number of infections tends to increase during the winter.
It said the majority of streptococcus infections cause relatively mild illnesses like strep throat, but sometimes more serious and potentially life-threatening infections are able to get into muscles, blood and other organs.
The health unit advises regular handwashing, covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, avoid sharing drinking and eating utensils and to not share drug paraphernalia in an effort to avoid infection.
(The number of non drug users being exposed to these dangerous germs in unsanitary hospitals is rising steadily and such rates of infection should be seen as a national shame due to he crippling and sometimes fatal nature of these infections!)

Freedom of speech is a core principle of our free society. But everywhere we look, there are signs this freedom is being suppressed.
Our Parliament just passed a controversial Liberal motion to condemn the loosely defined “Islamophobia,” despite a lack of consensus amongst Canadians about what the term even means.
One of Canada’s top universities caved to the perpetually-offended mob and accepted the resignation from one of its scholars. The reason? Professor and former journalist Andrew Potter wrote an article that was too critical of Quebec.
And just a few weeks ago, a young campus activist in Alberta was condemned and removed from his position after sending an email that was offensive to feminists.
These are more than just isolated incidents. They’re just three of dozens of readily available examples of a political correctness mob run amok.
(It would be helpful if specific examples of alleged intolerant speech were provided. WE know that Psychology professor Jordan Peterson has enraged feminists by stating that the major reason there are so few company CEO`s is because women generally want a better balance between work and family than males- it is a simple case that males are frequently more driven than females at work yet this enrages feminists who want govt to FORCE companies to promote women!)
(We know that on any given day- a startling number of young native males will be in jail- something over 50 percent at last count- yet LIE-berals are happy to suggest that our legal system is racist- while DENYING the crap social attitudes of some of our citizens!)

University is supposed to be a place to explore and discuss new ideas – including controversial ones. But rather than challenging the opinions of young people and preparing them for the real world, universities are quickly devolving into bastions of intolerant group-think.
Trigger warnings and safe spaces have become the norm, and speech codes and bans on offensive language are being discussed and promoting by university officials.
Alongside this crackdown on supposed hate speech, conservative events on campuses across North America are being met with violent mobs and shut down by self-described ‘anti-fascists.’
Irony is lost on these little emperors as they cry fascism over conservative ideas while using force to silence opinions they deem unacceptable.
(The ugly reality is that as our economy sinks ever deeper into crippling debt- an ever larger number of people recognize that getting govt gravy is easier than making money in our starving private economy! The drive for govt gravy is mandating all sorts of Fake News in support of that GREED!)
The anti-speech mob is getting more and more popular. For years, I have been speaking on university campuses about my book, Generation Screwed. The book chronicles the economic doom facing young people in Canada, and provides ideas and solutions for rescuing our fiscal future.
Many university campuses now have their own Generation Screwed clubs, where students get together to talk about how to tackle problems like massive government debt, high taxes and a slumping economy, while also dabbling in topics like freedom of speech and the modern campus environment.
The people attending these events are not extremists. They are regular students worried about their future. Yet, even these student-run events have become a target for the political correctness mob.
Last month, a Generation Screwed Action Forum at the University of Toronto was first disrupted by the mob – who marched into the auditorium chanting slogans and accusing the speakers of being white supremacists – and was eventually shut down.
(Irony challenged radicals use the “white supremacist” label as an insult- yet how many illegal immigrants are fighting to get into Uganda- versus how many coming to Canada? Oh yes- there ARE illegals in Morocco and Algeria but of course they are simply working their way north to lands ruled by white supremacists! Life in white ruled lands is seen by millions of migrants as being more orderly and prosperous and stable. White judges and white juries are more fair and not susceptible to bribery or manipulation! In spite of the whining of Black Lives Matter bigots- most ethnic groups count on western cops to follow the rule book very carefully- unlike their third world counterparts!)
The darlings of the left opted to pull the fire alarm and force the evacuation of the conference rather than allow students to hear opinions counter to their own.
Of course, that didn’t stop the final speaker, Ezra Levant, from carrying on his discussion outside in sub-zero temperatures.
This weekend, I will be speaking at the Generation Screwed Action Forum at the University of Calgary – that is, if the anti-speech mafia allows for it.
What these little tyrants fail to understand is that free speech will prevail. The more they use force to shut down events they don’t like, the more intrigue and interest there will be in these ideas.
The hysterics of social justice warriors and anti-fascist fascists are back-firing and helping to drive more people towards conservative ideas.
That’s because free speech trumps political correctness, even on a university campus.
(And all it takes to convince many kids that debt is BAD is for the kids to spend some time struggling to pay off that student loan! On average it now takes NINE YEARS for a kid to become debt free!
