Ford government's plan to cancel wind project could cost taxpayers over $100M, company warns

The president of a wind power company says cancelling an eastern Ontario project that has been under development for nearly a decade could cost more than $100 million.
The Ontario government said this week one of its priorities in the coming weeks will be to scrap the White Pines project in Prince Edward County.
The president of WPD Canada, the company behind the project, says the move could lead to costly litigation.
Progressive Conservative house leader Todd Smith has said the legislation to cancel the project will also insulate taxpayers from domestic litigation over the dismantling of green energy projects.
Ontario's Independent Electricity System Operator gave the final approval for the project during the spring election campaign, which the new government says should not have happened.
The project, which is close to completion, was initially approved in 2009. It includes nine wind turbines meant to produce enough electricity to power just over 3,000 homes annually.

How much will it cost tax payers if the plan was kept? I suspect that it would be more.

Hydro One board resigns, CEO retires

Premier Doug Ford says he has made good on a key campaign promise, announcing the immediate retirement of the CEO of Hydro One and the resignation of the utility's entire board of directors.

Ford, who promised that if he was elected he would fire Hydro One CEO Mayo Schmidt, dubbing him the "Six-Million-Dollar Man" during the spring election campaign, hailed it as a "great day" for the province.
Under an agreement between the new Tory government and the partially privatized power utility, Schmidt will retire and its board of directors will resign and be replaced.
"I said over and over and over again on the campaign trail the CEO of Hydro One and the board will be gone," Ford told a hastily called press conference on Wednesday afternoon.
"I'm happy to say today the CEO and the board of Hydro One, they're gone. They're done. They're done. We're going to turn a new corner."
Schmidt, who earned a $6.2-million salary last year, became a lightning rod for resentment during the election over rising electricity rates in the province. He would have been entitled to at least $10.7 million in severance if he were to be removed from his job by the board of directors, according to the company’s annual shareholders report released on March 29.

Hey Mentalfloss the West may not have to foreclose on Ontario after all MOGA

Martin Regg Cohn: Despite the political environment, here’s one public servant Doug Ford can’t fire

After reading the article I think they found cause to fire her ;)

It was nice of Wynne to subsidize the Broadview Algonquin Red Lily whirlygig farm in the premise of saving the planet by feeding the oil fields.

OOPSIES INDEED!!!!!

During the Conservative Party leadership debates this spring- 2018- Tanya Allen was on stage raging that "she would rip out the wind farms"!

Ford replied: "come on Tanya, you are a lawyer and you know you cannot just rip them out like that because of the contracts"!

I am going to guess that Ford and a legal team have been studying those contracts and have found suitable "sunset clauses" that allow them to shut down projects and cancel govt offers after a certain period of time!

ON a related theme- hysterical loser LIE-berals are screaming that Ford will be sued for the cost of the carbon credits that companies bought from the LIE-beral govt.

NOPE!!!!!

Govt often changes fees and tax rates and such and you dont get to go back and recover high taxes after a new govt is elected and changes things!

Ford and the people of Ontari-owe are immune to law suits for carbon credits and it seems Ford has found legal mweans of killing stupid green energy contracts!

Okay then !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And how about LOTS of exclamation points as well???????????????????????????????????

I am delighted to see that Our Idiot Boy has so little in the way of defense of his FAILED policies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LIE-berals have fed us their best crap and its been REJECTED!!!!!

Here is a reminder of why it is Ford now running Ontari-owe:

Quote of the day

"Progressives pride themselves on their highly evolved psyches, their awe-inspiring good intentions and their admirable sense of right and wrong. Indeed, so sure are they that they are right, disagreement can only be an insult. Opposition triggers instant hatred, in a chorus chanted so loudly that nothing said, no evidence presented, will be heard or considered. Indeed, in order to cement a belief, whatever the left decides to believe magically becomes new science, granted an exemption from any sort of scientific process because the leftist has declared that a consensus of leftists makes something scientific. Belief alone is the sole test. This process is, quite literally, detached from reality, as if written by an inebriated Charles Dodgson."
-- Jeffrey T. Brown

LIE-berals are engaged in the `long con`.....ripping us off in the name of good....problem is....the only good they see is THEIR GOOD! They have driven up electricity costs with their green energy plan...which isnt green at all.....wind and solar power are so erratic here in Ontari-owe that Lie-berals MUST keep gas fired generating plants constantly burning day and night-ready at a moments notice to take up the electrical `slack` whenever the wind stops blowing or the sun does not shine-we don’t live on a sea coast and wind here is fitful so the gas plants sit.....burning all day every day just in case they MIGHT be needed while rarely ever producing any electricity.

Even worse, the mostly idle and usually dis-engaged gas plants are fueled with gas obtained by `fracking`.....which involves injecting many thousands of gallons of chemicals (including sulphuric acid) into the ground.....gee...how could that go wrong? Having our drinking water being polluted with sulphuric acid and our air fouled by gas plants that produce very little electricity while green energy producers get PAID NOT to produce electricity on very windy days just so that Lie-berals can claim they are environmental heroes???

And now we have word via The Globe and Mail newspaper that ever scheming LIE-berals have decided it would be good to force us to use electricity in our homes for both heating and cooking-even though it would mean scrapping an array of natural gas operated appliances and also would require some costly re-wiring of houses to provide the necessary electrical outlets. When that bit of news came out and the public screaming started, LIE-berals backed off.....FOR NOW!

But what happens if they win another Ontari-owe election and can press on with their green garbage?

And WHY force us to use electricity? If the only buyer of natural gas is govt electrical generating plants then the cost will go down-its natural supply and demand-less demand means lower prices-and LIE-beral committees SET the price of natural gas!

And LIE-berals will set the price of natural gas according to what is convenient for THEM! AND they will charge for electricity-AGAIN- according to THEIR convenience- and THEY NEED a slush fund- hence the high electricity prices! With the added bonus that they have sold off a small portion of our generating capacity and in the process SLAMMED SHUT public access to their books and they seriously expect us NOT to ask what they are hiding in there!

No need for the public to ever again worry about what costs LIE-berals are generating with that electricity and what profits they are gouging out of our hides for electricity-after all its not as if they have ever lied to us before? About gas plants, the cost and benefits of green energy, ORNG, E-health, the Mars building, the conversion of the generating plant in Thunder Bay to burn `bio-mass` fuel imported form Europe-with a HUGE carbon trail- and which will produce electricity that will cost TWENTY-FIVE TIMES MORE than conventional electricity!

We are expected to just blindly trust the LIE-berals-who just happen to need HUNDREDS of BILLIONS of EXTRA dollars to satisfy the GREED of civil service HOGS who were made a series of INSANE promises by LIE-berals in exchange for election votes that put LIE-berals in power! And time is now running out-the greed of Ontari-owe high school teachers is such that their pension plan-the RICHEST in ALL North America will go bankrupt by about 2018 unless they get fifty-five billion dollars in top up payments!

And of course our Ontari-owe economy is now so lame-with so little heavy industry left that we often produce more `green energy` than we need and thanks to Lie-berals we have no way of shutting off that very erratic excess green production and so on some days we must PAY other people-mostly American states to take our excess energy off our hands.

If whirlygigs were the answer they wouldn't be dropping $10B on refitting Darlington nuclear.
And that, in a nutshell, explains why commercially generated wind power was and is a complete waste in Ontario. Three nuclear power plants, including what is now the second largest capacity NPP in world, plus a respectable hydro-electric capacity and the Libtards give us windmills. Windmills that when mated to natgas plants make the natgas plants less efficient. Brilliant strategy. It's no wonder everyone but morons like flosstard and Mr. Assfacts have a serious issue with how the Libtards completely bungled the electricity portfolio. If it's an incredibly f*cking dumb leftard idea, those two idiots will support it.

Not to mention the contract signed a couple weeks before the election to make damn sure it was put into place and credited to the Lib. party. Should have been left until after the election IMO

Industry can't afford the crazy energy cost making a struggling manufacturing sector nonexistent.

To make matters worse energy costs are driving food production costs up.

Between crazy electricity costs and carbon taxes topped with $15 minimum have upped operating cost by 30% for greenhouses.

Some have gave up and others setting up shop in Quebec where they can afford the power and labour.

There is no way in Hell worst case Ontario will ever regain it's industrial strength.

SaskPower is loving private operations popping up without any capital costs being carried. It allowed them to rebuild the grid to handle our industrial growth.

A geothermal plant and a solar array are the next two private projects.

If this keeps up it will be painless to shut down Cornach and Shand. Boundary will remain as a coal and gas facility and used for carbon capture as a huge value added byproduct.

I agree, I also like the Saskpower grant to residents to set up personal solar/wind projects to sell the excess power to the grid, and credit back when in need of grid power.

Enviro Barbie can shove her $60 Million transfer to Sask.

What can you do with $50 a person to reduce emissions?

Buy a lock for a stolen bicycle?

For solar there is a 50% CCA. Flosshole would call that a tax incentive but CCAs for oil companies are subsidies.
