Christ, let's all hope you're not a bus driver, pilot, surgeon, train engineer or the like.

Yeah, it would be great to be served by, flown by or operated on (drink for lunch types) by some schmuck with alcohol on their breath.

Impairment is very relative; so is abiding by your employer's standards and societal trust. Inspires real confidence.

Man, you don't read the black parts do you?

If you yourself wanna toke and drink, have at it. Who cares.

If you think the previous examples would be accepted by people, get your lipo done or have your plane flown by drinking employee.

Having a beer doesn't make him a dumb ****, Gerry. Are you confusing intoxication with "a drink"?

I have zero tolerance for alcohol or drug use during work hours. You want to get blasted after work....go for it. It has been proven that even one drink can effect people. I am not willing to put my business or other employees at risk so someone can have even a beer at lunch. If someone HAS to have a "drink" or toke during working hours then they should be looking at some addiction counselling.

We hear about them when some rower gets a gold medal lifted or somebody falls asleep behind the wheel. That's when legions jump in to their defense. Someone smelled what they believed was the odour of burning marijuanah, so the whole issue falls into the realm of the monosylabic.... Weed bad!

Ya, ferries sinking in Canada is such a common occurrence. Do you ever talk on a cell phone while you drive?
Read or listen to the news; B.C, had a fatal sinking in March of '06 along with numerous docking crashes. And I don't own a cell phone; no umbilical for me since I left my momma's womb.

Exactly! Blame anyone who enjoys pot as lazy, stupid and unproductive, yet someone mentions it under their breath and investigations and all thinking abruptly ends. Makes me think of Monty Pythons burn the witch sketch.

I'm with the time and place folks here. I would never use it at work. It's not like I haven't been offered. After work that's a different story.

I don't like to generalize, but most cases I know of medicinal marijuana are not the types of people you see out working as a dockhand or crew member on a large ship.

What forum are you reading? Cause it sure as hell isn't this one. Both Locutus and I have made it clear that if someone wants to indulge in drugs or alcohol after work hours....go for it. Just NOT on the job.

Gerry, you would be wise to have a drink on the job every so often, your nerves will thank you for it.

I'm all for the indulge after hours thing. Many times have I done it too - for recreation then later, for relief from pain. Thing is, they're proposing drug testing. Chemistry leaves the body relatively fast. Marijuana, on the other hand, stays for a visit as TCH bonds to fat cells. Your last puff may have been a couple of days ago, but it's going to show up in the urine. That person will be perfectly sober and still test positive for drug use.

I hate how companies try to control peoples off the job actives. When it harms no one what people do off the job is not the employers business. It is pretty much government sanctioned discrimination.
I beg to differ....a heavy session of good pot lingers the next day..it's hard to notice if you are a long time user though ....

Then I guess the indignation etc should be pointed at where it belongs. The idiots that decided to toke on the job to begin with. The company is looking at protecting it's own ass, due diligence.

there is a time limmit put on air line pilots as to when they can have their last drink.....you can't go into a job where the safety of people are concerend and be a doper as far as i'm concerned...get another job where you don't endanger lives......the next day after a heavy session of pot yer not up to snuff...i don't care what ya say....

True, but there is a huge difference between measuring alcohol in the blood and the THC metabolite. Also, I hope you're not presuming that all pot users binge in 'heavy sessions'.

Indignation? What lines did you sniff between? I'm not defending anyone who's toking on the job. I'm raisinf a concern that random drug checks can and have incriminated people who are doing something on their OWN time. I believe if you're going to use (anything) use responsibly.
