A large oak tree draws a lot of nutrients from the soil. Takes a lot to sustain the tree. But in the fall the oak tree loses its leaves which cover the surrounding area and eventually decompose and returns much more than it has taken. Not to mention the acorns that not only feed animals but perpetuate the species. In nature much more is given back that has been taken. Can we say that about the human species? I'll probably agree with Cliffy on this subject.

Energy is always conserved. It can't give back more than it takes in.

Earth Day for me is just another day. I will do what I normally do. I will put my Coke cans in the recycling like I do everyday. I will take the TTC to work like I do every day (assuming the 22nd is a weekday). If I have something in the evening I will drive. I will use my standard compliment of lights and water that day. And I will laugh at the people who DRIVE to the special earth day ceremonies to complement themselves on how great they are at saving the planet.

I'll be driving around in a 1 ton service van that get's 8 miles to the gallon if we're lucky. Then I'll go home. Turn all 5 TV's on in the house, along with all the lights, turn the Hot tub to high with both pumps running and turn the furnace fan on to continuous run.

Forget Rebel Without a Cause, you're a rebel just because.

Cool. :D

Impossible, prove it. This is the kind of bullshyte that the simple minded eat up.

How does it give more than it took?

It can't, and I know the question is rhetorical.

Case in point of the simple minded.

No answer to that one huh?

You were expecting one?

Cool. I got some to get rid of and some waste oil to get them going.

Found a new scam today. You can buy carbon credits with your aroplan miles.

It's the 100th anniversary of the Second Battle of Ypres on April 22nd when the First Canadian Division became the first victims of a "weapon of mass destruction" in history when they were attacked with poison gas. It was a suicidal and desperate (and successful) stand in the Ypres Salient that they made and it stopped a certain German breakthrough to Paris and an early German victory to WWI.

"Earth Day" will take a distant 12th in my mind on that day.

What? Carbon offsets?

It just so happens that I have some in my pocket!
They're worth, ummm ... fif ... one hundred dollars each. How many of them would you like to buy from me, again?

$100? Wow!!! $95 over the going rate of $5 per tonne if there were a carbon exchange.

But if you pay me I will plant a tree in my orchard at enjoy it's fruit . $100.00 is great but $95.00 will do nicely .

Western Forest Products gets paid for this right out of your carbon taxes already .

How does it give more than it took?

A very interesting question. I agree that the tree has gain not from mother earth. The day is earthday not sunday. ha a ha a ha Al life must give back more than what was gotten from the earth, that's the purpose of life I guess. Progress, moving forward, benevolent growth and developement.

It's okay I have 26,000 "credits" and will sequester another 5400+ tonnes this summer by planting beer and deep frier oil.
