*shrug* the economics and mafia stuff doesnt enter the equation for me actually, although Im sure you are correct. For me, it's just a matter of "do we need these things?" and the answer is no. Nobody needs alcohol, tobacco or non-medicinal marijuana.
Maybe you don't need them but i'd die without beer

One thing we really don't need is the federal government..today's version and yesterday's too.Regarding a doctor's 'right' to refuse treatment to any patient that fails to meet the standards of the profession: it has never been what doctors wish that mattered, its their job to repair the damage we do to each other and ourselves. Otherwise, why be a doctor?

Hypocratic Oath has become a bit hypocritical.... Even with a 95% blockage and a Code Blue, the only reason Doc did the stent on me was because I quit smoking just over a year before.

Cops know how to arrest people, what will make it easier etc. They do not know how to solve the problem.

Drugs Are Cool
[/SIZE] [SIZE=+1]By The Regulator[/SIZE]
Contrary to the traditional, adamant position of school and government officials, drugs have recently been found to be, in fact, cool. Rumors to this effect have been circulating lately, but it was not until a comprehensive study of high school students, the authorities on coolness, was completed that it was confirmed. Not only were drugs found to be cool in their own right, but it became apparent that one can become cool by taking them, a procedure known to inside sources as "doing them."
Why are these sometimes shady, usually illegal substances cool? Two reasons: first, they are sometimes shady, usually illegal. Second, they all offer some sort of exhilarating feeling, known to insiders as a "high." This "high" leads most often to loss of coherent thought, loss of body control, the performing of activities otherwise thought better of, and hallucinations. Cool!
One particularly cool high school student, who wishes to remain unnamed, stated, "Dude, man, teachers are, like, all [messed] up. They don't know, man. They're totally [very] stupid. Drugs are, like, no big deal. What the [heck]?" He then ceased responding and blankly stared at the wall, humming and rhythmically shifting his head back and forth. No other information was obtained. Other students all seem to be of the opinion that drugs help them relax after a hard day of studying, writing papers, and volunteering down at the homeless shelter. They claim that drugs definitely add to their coolness rating, and often help them to get lots and lots of [female genitalia].
I don't know about you, but in view of these facts, drugs sure sound good to me! Anyone know where I can get some?

Murder is something I do to someone else's body. So are rape, inciting a riot, stealing (well, that is an offence against another's property). As to social taboos, I have no problem with codes that promote social harmony - break those at your own risk. I, for one, always turn off my cell phone at a theatre.

Laws regulating what I do with my own body, however are a different story. I ought to be able to tattoo myself, amputate a limb, take a drug, sell an organ if I wish. If my behaviour subsequently does harm to another, I quite naturally be held to account for that. If it does not - then butt out and leave me alone to live as I choose.

Good grief. You use your finger to pull the trigger to cause murder, or you use your hand to stab someone. Such use of the body is prohibited by law. And you know what you use when you rape a woman/that's part of your body too. It seems you are incapable of comprehending such things. You only see yourself as innocent. A jury would not.

I haven't read all the posts but thought I would drop an opinion. Legalize drugs, pot, crack, and everything in between. But make damn sure that if you grab an old lady's purse, you are going to do time, the first time. If you are messed up and drive ,you will do time. We are responsible for what goes into our bodies and we are responsible for what our bodies do. Cheers.

What are you thinking?

You don't honestly believe that smoking a joint and shooting someone to death are the same thing do you? Think again.

Why is it that people who are against rational approach to drugs feel the need to jump to extremism when trying to make a case against decrim policies?

No one suggests selling cocaine in the corner store next to the school.
Just no criminal record if you get busted with a small amount of pot.

Even in countries with the death penalty for importing or exporting drugs people still smuggle drugs. So what makes you think that harsh sentencing works at all? It only wastes money that could be better spent elsewhere.

Harm reduction works. It's proven, deal with it.

I agree that you're responsible for what you do regardless of what you choose to put into your body.

I don't go for the legalization of all drugs though. That would be irresponsible on the part of the government.

That some want you to spend time in jail for that shows just how out of touch some people are. But I wonder if it goes further than that. Could it be a deeply emotional want to hurt someone who has done nothing at all to them?

It most definitely is a drug, no question about that. I'm also a frequent caffeine user and occasional boozer. Some day I'll likely be taking government subsidized drugs for some malady. I like my drug dealers better. Salt of the earth kinda guys who grow their own, no organized crime. Just regular citizens who like to exercise their green thumbs and iron lungs ;)

Or just blatant indoctrination over the years. A stigma pot is to some.

I'm even willing to pay a tax on it. Seriously. Revenue Canada has no problem going after earnings made by pot growers...
