In politics, only fools do not take their adversaries seriously. We saw this with the Democrats in the last US presidential election. They all but ignored Trump. How will Wynne take on Ford?

Despite what some are saying about the PCs, Wynne's time in office is subject to review and her firing is a huge consideration by Ontario's voters. How will the PC handlers go forward during the campaign? Because of the turmoil with Patrick Brown, both the NDP and the Liberals don't know much about the PC election strategy.

That lack of knowledge may help the PCs in the coming weeks.

White corriboard signs donning “Ford” in blue block letters are plastered between shrines of Hindu deities in the expansive hallway of the Sringeri Community Centre. In the past three weeks, Doug Ford has visited nearly every town in Ontario in a frantic bid to become the province’s next PC leader. Now in the final days of the race, he’s come home to an impassioned crowd of supporters in the Toronto suburb of Etobicoke.

Inside the ornate community hall—adorned with crystal chandeliers and red velvet accents—is a snapshot of Toronto. About half of the 450 attendees are visible minorities. Many are middle-aged or older and most are men, but a faction of youth and women have showed up as well. The crowd—Ford Nation—leaps to its feet, whooping and whistling as Eye of the Tiger booms over the sound system and Ford takes the stage with promises to make Ontario prosperous again. He’ll “sanitize the [PC] party,” he says, and eliminate taxes for anyone earning less than $30,000 a year. He’ll save the manufacturing sector and make housing affordable. He’ll get rid of job-killer Kathleen Wynne.

It’s hard not to draw comparisons between Ford and Donald Trump. Both are businessmen and political oddities who purport to shun the elite and speak for the working class. They harness fear of the future and nostalgia for the good ol’ days—for legacy industries and unbridled energy consumption. Both represent a growing appetite for populism among various disenfranchised demographics.

As can paper. I don’t really have much doubt in the system. I don’t like our electoral system but I do trust the results whether my preferred candidate won or not.

If there is one thing BC and Alberta has proven lately it’s that provincial parties can be very very different from province to province even if they have the same name.

I wouldn’t simply because they won the last two but by all rights shouldn’t have. I guess that’s what happens with voter turnout off 52% last time and 58% the time before. If people want change they should show up.

Like the past two elections, it is the opposition's to give away. My hope is that Ford and the campaign are kept on a short leach. And I would say that about any leader, not just Ford.

Bill Davis was a good conservative.

I cannot offhand think of anyone less like Bill Davis than Doug Ford.

Take a good long look at his subway proposals for Toronto. They are literally mega projects with no budget or way to pay for them.

You could not pick a less credible financial adviser.
