Hmmm... now there's an interestingly sticky issue if I've ever heard one.

Should charities have to limit how much of their money is spent on political argument. My gut says 'hell yes!' It's frustrating to consider giving your money to a charity only to have them spend it all protesting policy rather than actually putting it toward the people you think it might be going toward. But then, if there's a policy that they find stands in the way of them effecting change, should they continue to ineffectually take your money?

I agree, mentalfloss and his ilk are the only drama queens.

The celebrity scientist posted a letter on his foundation website declaring:

I have reached a point in my life where I would like to consider myself an elder. I want to speak freely without fear that my words will be deemed too political, and harm the organization of which I am so proud. I am keenly aware that some governments, industries and special interest groups are working hard to silence us. They use threats to the Foundation’s charitable status in attempts to mute its powerful voice on issues that matter deeply to you and many other Canadians.

Careful Loc, you wouldn't want to end up in jail...

Oh wait!

Dave just wants that, thankfully he can't legislate it.
I've already been in jail and Bye-Polar Dave doesn't impress me.
I'm sure mentalfloss will enjoy that.

You two bozos must live in a black and white universe. Logging roads are public access (number 0ne).

A logger once said to me, I bet that woman in New Denver (Colleen McRory) who hates logging, lives in a house made of 2X4s. I said, Colleen doesn't hate logging, she is against stupidity. I have nothing against logging or loggers. But their methods are not sustainable or logical. But the rapers and pillagers can't see the forest for the dollar signs.

Tell that to Spray lakes sawmills then because they just closed their road to any public access and folks have been useing it for years to get back into kananaskis country.I also sometimes work for altalink and their big powerline right of ways, and from Calgary to the BC border here in the pass we gate and lock every single one of the roads we build and use to access the structures.

Same with the access road from Sundre into the South end of Minnewanka... Federal lands, but no public access.

In BC, any logging road leading into contentious areas are now being locked. Forests belong to the people. They are public lands. The government has no right to give these lands to logging companies. The companies only lease the land to harvest trees. They do not own the land and have no right to lock roads. But when the public protests logging in areas like the Slocan Valley where land slides, land slumps are a real danger of damaging property and killing people and domestic water supplies are threatened, the government uses the RCMP to arrest and shut the people up. Anybody who thinks we live in a democracy has their head up their ass. We live in a corporate dictatorship and the police are the enforcers for the Corporations.

Do you lease the land?... You do understand that a lease will invoke certain privileges and rights with the payments.

That said, the gvt leased those lands on your behalf and like it or not, just because they are publicly owned, does not automatically give you the right to claim them as your own.

Interested in giving up the code to the gate at the South end of Minnewanka? There are some kick-ass fishing holes that I'd like access to.

BTW, the road I was on was public access and ran through and accessed several cattle ranches and free range areas, as well as camping and recreational areas. It was a very old road that was maintained by the forest ministry.
