If the Catholic Church is forcing your mother to do something she does not want to do, you should phone the police.
Grow up. No-one's physically twisting her arm. They conned her into falling for the fear of god crap. Apparently someone convinced you that driving like an idiot would end up with you being fined and maybe jailed.
I don't see anyone twisting an Islamic woman's arm to wear that weil. Or twisting an Islamic man's arm to make sure his head actually touches the floor when he prays. It's fear that makes most of these people obey the rules.

Then she is not being forced. Thanks for playing.

Is anyone forcing you to make your mortgage payments? Is anyone forcing you to pay your income taxes?
I don't want to play with you anymore today. You aren't up to it.

Me either, but then I'm not religious. My mother is oppressed by the Catholic church. I used to be. Poor Herald is oppressed by whatever brand of Christianity he practises. Apparently you aren't particularly Christian.
Tell me, please, what keeps you from beating the crap out of someone you dislike, or driving like an idiot on the sidewalk, or doing other stuff that's against the rules?

Don't compare the catholic church to Christianity. They are an evil cult thriving on child molesting...

Anna, Anna! You are truely missing the point.....find me a nation on earth where you are required by law to attend confession........or to perform any other Christian rite.

I any number of Islamic countries, women are publically whipped for "public indencency" such as wearing trousers, showing wrists, ankles or hair....or their face.....for being seen inpublic unescorted by husband, brother, uncle or husband........in Iran, I know of a case where a young women recieved a caning for eating an icecream "in a provocative manner". Homosexuals are stoned to death, adulterers shot, people whipped into the Mosque at prayer time......and the government employes a special religious police force to enforce religious law.

To compare that with the consequences of a belief system your mother has CHOSEN (key word) is a little.....disengenuous. Consequences of her own actions.

Perhaps I am, but I really can't see much difference between religions. They each and all have their own particular forms of coercions. Christians have to obey or else they don't get to heaven, and that sort of thing. Just like there are consequences if you don't pay your taxes.

Don't you listen to the news??? Seems like there are a lot of priests and bishops, maybe popes who are perverts.
I don't pay that much attention to the news, no. What I have paid attention to are studies on the subject and by any I have seen so far, there is only a 2 to 4% instance of pedophilia in the RCC. And that is about the same in any other part of society.
As far as the homosexual part goes, it's only an opinion that gays are perverts.

If you believe that, I feel sorry for you.

Yep, the way the media gets on a story and "beats it to death", it would sure seem that way. I would imagine in real life the vast majority of priests and bishops are basically decent people.

''are you saying now that Obama is the anti-Christ?''

The Obama hating reich wingers are saying Obama is Satan as well as the Antichrist.

Gopher, they basically hurl every epithet at Obama they can come up with, without thinking. Obama is probably causing plenty of nervous breakdowns in the ranks of the right and the far right.

Where have you been all these days, JLM? Welcome back.

The point is not that most of the priests are decent people, they may well be. The point is that priests hold authority position in the church and by implication in the society. A priest has access to many small children, the children trust him absolutely, the flock of the church trust the priest absolutely.

As a result a priest pedophile has a potential to do much more damage, can ruin the lives of many more children that say, a pedophile plumber or a pedophile business executive. These pedophiles may have access to perhaps two or three children; a priest has access to hundreds (over the years).

So a priest pedophile is much worse than any other kind of pedophile. He has access to many children, absolute authority over them and absolute trust of the parents. So the church must be very vigilant in keeping them out, unfortunately, it is not.

Hello to you too S.J. We moved to a different town, so we were in limbo for 7 weeks "camping" while finding a new house and waiting to take possession.
