I don't think the early Datsuns and such out'a Japan into the
North American market where the Japanese "A" game, but
they improved quickly once they had a toe hold in the market
place. Now the Honda Civic and the Toyota Camry are two
of the highest quality made cars in North America.

In 1973 I bought a Datsun 510. That car, with it's rear wheel drive, independent suspension all around, disk brakes, overhead cam engine, etc, was a copy of the BMW and on the race track it creamed BMW and Alpha Romeo. At the time it was the best car I'd ever owned. To this day, American automakers have never responded to that car.

All brilliant ideas. Some might result in your country being slighly nuked by the US but hey, what the heck.

"Time for Canadians to realize they are a sleeping lion".
Checked your military preparedness lately or you public's sentiment on all things military (except for your long standing tradition of harboring draft dodgers).
More like the sleeping lion in the field of flowers in the Wizard of Oz.

RanchHand, we're past that....and I doubt the USA wants to nukes
going of in their backyard, for all intents and purposes. Why on Earth
would the USA contaminate their own water supply that flows from
Canada along with everything else that flows South out'a Canada???
Now a Neutron Bomb, or something along those lines maybe, but not
a Nuke. Just not going to happen.

I had a 510 Datsun wagon in the 70's. Drove it well over 150 000 miles (yep miles) with no major repairs. It had replaced a Chev that burnt oil faster than could leak around faulty rings!

They could stand along the border and sing off key! I'd give up right away!

I drove that car over a hundred thousand miles but those miles were in B.C. not Ontario. Ontario puts some serious stuff on the road to kill the ice. Whatever it is, kills the car bodies as well. In Ontario and points east, rust ate cars until 1986 when North American auto makers saw the light and started using decent metal in their cars.

China>>>Last year salaries surged 40%, to an average of $160 a month

Guangdong Province says it has 2.5 million jobs that remain unfilled

Be proud wearing your Calvin Klein ->made in China
Soon we will be able to drive a Mao-mercedeeeze look alike for $10,000 brand new
Regarding majority goes directly to the states,as do the oil pipelines so really Canada can squat

The governments of the countries need to take full control of banks--most democracies, the Vatican all belong to the same company

I was reading the comments in the CBC story on the Ontario Lottery Corp. giving prizes of cars built by foriegn companies rather than Canadian Companies. It doesn't sound like most people would take a Canadian built car even if they won it in a lottery. Canadian cars are out the door as far as the public opinion there. I don't know if it would even be worth giving the car makers any money except to keep a few jobs around for a while longer. From the comments there, I certainly can't see them being to support themselves after one more year of poor sales.

My idea to slightly nuke Canada was made in light of Andyf's design to sell nuclear technology to North Korea and divert all southern running tributaries in Canada. Take it in the ridiculous spirit it was intended.

The year I got married(1966) I bought a new Valiant slant six. Things started going wrong with that car almost immediately. Within six months I couldn't stand the sight of the damn thing. I can't think of a situation that would make me want to buy another one. I took a beating when I traded it in on a new Triumph sports car because nobody else wanted that Valiant either.

1/cut off all tributaries to south flowing rivers, and divert to Canadian agriculture purposes irrigation etc. Or built more power dams to make use of the new bounty of water.
2/re-route hydro power from the manic watersheds, and give it to Canadians at cut rate instead of giving it now to the US at almost free rates.
3/sell nuclear technology to N Korea.
4/open up arms trade with Russia, lower Northern defense systems NORAD. (better the enemy you always knew than the one who likes to stab you in the back.)
5/ build up a arms industry in Canada. Put people back in the factories and make money so they can buy new japanese and european cars. We made the mistake of dropping the all Canadian made Avro Arrow for the sake of the US who reqtested we do so. Best up to date fighter of it's time, and the US knows it. We were the best at ship building too, we can go back to it.
6/ pull out of the clean air group and start our own manufacturing of cars.

Many more.

Oh brother... not another one.

The same old empty threats.

What the OP fails to realize is that it isn't just Canadian employees of automakers that are being asked to sacrifice, US employees are as well for the bloated and poorly run US auto manufacturers. They get a huge burst of money from the govt. and GM is asking for more. The taxpayer has given enough to the Big 3 who obviously cannot get their "stuff" together and make cars that people will buy.

I think the difference EagleSmack is that the UAW has already made
significant consessions (as opposed to the CAW), and that Chrysler
isn't threatening to bug-out of the USA if it doesn't get its way....

I get that RanchHands suggestion of "slightly Nuking" was in jest to a
ridiculous earlier suggestion, or I wouldn't have recommended using a
Neutron Bomb instead to preserve the value of Canadian real estate.

Quoting petros Why doesn't Chrysler sell stocks to raise money?
Would YOU buy chrysler stock right now?
Damn rights...the mill is crushing my ore right now as we speak. The deeper this hole is dug with paper money the more my gold is worth. Just like the banks I'm making out like a bandit during this fire sale. I learned all about gold when i was 13 years old and was sitting on several ounces. It was 1981 when i was 13. Do you remeber the price of gold at that time?
