Nah, I don't buy that. You just need more wine in your system, lol. It'll all seem rosy then, I promise. ;)

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well. :D

You got to at least stick around post Thanksgiving. Hallowe'en is coming up and I need help picking out my costume! (If I leave it up to Bear it'll just be French Maid, French Maid, French Maid. LOL.)

There is a tiger beneath the calm, I believe in her. You just got to find your inner sarcasm, then the whole shebang becomes quite the hoot!
*falls on the floor laughing* you are too funny.... gotta get my growl on eh...?

My left leg won't fit into the whole French Maid costume ... and the little garter only fits the neck area...lol...:-(

Witch costume fits better now... long flowing robes and I just dab green paint on my warts

The advantage of a merger, or at least a common citizenship and passport, would be a larger labour market which would be a big economic advantage to both sides. Culturally, it would make it easier for First Nations and people with friends and family members to cross the border, and save money on border guards. The benefits, both economic and cultural, would be significant.

A common military could save money too, assuming of course the US shrunk its military to be comparable to the Canadian one of course. It would save money on embassies, diplomats, etc. And a common currency would also reduce the overhead cost of money brokers. Those are just some of the potential benefits.
how would you justify our inevitable invasion into foreign lands?

Sounds kinky.
you say that like it's a bad thing... I may have to get the whip out...nah, you would like that...lol

That's why I'd support a conditional union.

Supposing that the new constitution required it to abide by international law, and that it could have a military of a maximum size of 100,000 well trained and equipped men at any given point in time, or some other such constitution.

Of course the question is, would the US agree to it. With their debt as is, who knows. The US is waking up to reality really fast right now. It's hard to say what will happen.

As for the US debt, let's suppose there was some tentative agreement requiring both sides to pay off their debts before merger. Or as an initial step, keeping two separate nations but just a common citizenship and passport as an initial step. In fact, that alone would be beneficial, both culturally and econommically.

I can not imagine that until we are no longer held under the power of conglomerates that require huge amounts of oil or profit by oil

possibly once oil is no longer a factor like it is now

I think they are too conglomerate centered so we would have to move that way. I am unwilling to do that. I perfer a balance and I do not like their allegiance to god and flag. It is too easy to justify any cruel behaviour. Power corrupts. That's why they have imploded.

I like that we are small and laid back and care better for our people. I don't want that type of world power.

As for the US debt, let's suppose there was some tentative agreement requiring both sides to pay off their debts before merger. Or as an initial step,
They have a very small middle class now... it's very rich, some middle and a huge mass of poor. We would be inheriting that.

I prefer them as cousins, not immediate family. They would swallow us whole.

I would move to Europe.

Actually, I just thought of another big plus with a comon citizenship and passport. If either country spends taxpayer money too frivolously, the smart ones would move to the other country. This would actually put some pressure on both countries to be more economically responsible otherwise people could just move out.

Now I get it. Chubbybear gave me the clue. It explains how so many here seem free to post all day. It also explains why I see so much bad temper and emotion when I post something other people disagree with. I've blundered into a bunch of students. Work at it awhile and you'll discover that in most disciplines, especially in the humanities, questions have more than one right answer. University is teaching you the process, not the answers. Answers are interchangeable.

And in other disciplines there is 1 correct answer -
As to the studying of Humanities, perhaps a refresher.

Please note your statement on humanities.
Humanities - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The humanities are academic disciplines that study human culture, using methods that are primarily analytical,[citation needed] critical, or speculative, and have a significant historical element[1]—as distinguished from the mainly empirical approaches of the natural sciences.[1] The humanities include ancient and modern languages, literature, philosophy, religion, and visual and performing arts such as music and theatre. The humanities that are also sometimes regarded as social sciences include history, anthropology, area studies, communication studies, cultural studies, law and linguistics.

Humanities Definitions
The Humanities and its Disciplines. The humanities are academic disciplines that seek to understand, appreciate and critique the human conduction in all its depth and range of meaning. They, in varied ways, consider the "big questions," both of the contemporary and the perennial, and with these understandings and methodologies engage civic life, both locally and globally, to address the challenges faced by humanity.

While there are many other disciplines that also seek to understand the human condition, the approaches and methodologies of the humanities are primarily interpretive (analytical, critical, and/or reflective), as distinguished from the mainly empirical approaches of the natural and social sciences, and the creative approaches in the arts.

And this has what to do with a hypothetical discussion about a merger between Canada and the U.S.?

Did you panic because the U.K. was not being mentioned in a thread? Is that it? Because you know there are medications that can help you with that.

I think there was a time and a day when this was true....for many many years now it no longer holds we are a country proud to be Canadian...anyone who is not should hop over the border and stay there. My parents chose from ten countries when they immigrated it was Canada they chose not the States and they did so for a reason. I live here for a reason. Americans live there for a reason. We are similar, we are not the same.

I do not want their guns, their flag or their god... but I respect that they do, it's what makes them who they are and they were once the greatest nation on earth, as was Britian. And when there is disaster they have heart.

Exactly. And since subtlety has not proven to be a strong point with this particular member, I think the more direct approach is warranted.
