Actually enhanced to the tune of $2000 yearly. I'd love to be a fly on the wall about a year after Jr. or Mulehair takes over. (With a heavy pair of ear muffs) Just saw Jr. on the news tonight showing his naivety - going to tax the rich some more (how many $thousands do they pay already?) to give to the middle class, who aren't really hurting either. (He really needs to study up on Abraham Lincoln)

People love to bitch until it comes down to the nitty gritty. You just have to listen to Jr. & Mulehair for 5 minutes to know full well they are going to increase taxes. Well it was free under British rule. Not sure how free the Hong Kongians are going to end up being under Chinese rule. The Chinese Administration isn 't well renowned for its love of freedom.
The reason why Hong Kong is so wealthy today is because it was part of the British Empire. Had it been part of the French Empire, for example, it'd still be a poor, backward place today, on a par with other former French colonies like Chad and Niger. It was British rule which made Hong Kong what it is today.
Although Britain could, and should, however, have kept most of Hong kong. It wasn't obliged to hand it all over to the Chinks in 1997. Britain could have kept most of Hong Kong for eternity, like Gibraltar.
It amazes me how people eat up publications like these without knowing the methodology being implemented. Simply amazing.
