Apparently Twitter shut down the Calgary Police's Twitter page due to their post number cap. Good on ya Twitter!

Backwater, Ontario.
Strange how the first thing I thought of when I heard about the flooding was Ralph Klein.

But I'm not an arrogant Ontarioan so I won't suggest we "let the Western bastards swim", but will gladly share my tax revenue, and more, to helping these fellow Canadians survive and recover..........

Who TF said "Let the Western bastards swim" ???

I've been following this story closely as we have relatives and friends out west, and this is the first I've heard of that comment.

Does sound like something a Conbot would say about we "arrogant Ontarioans"........fukk you by the way.............fukking troll

I think he's saying Klein at one point said that some other province should deal with their own natural disaster.

And from what I'm seeing so far, Alberta isn't asking for help, so it's odd to jump in with such a smug comment.

Cumberland House, SK - under evac notice. Medicine Hat - state of emergency. Lethbridge, Alta - on high alert........and the list of effected communities continues to rise as do the waters - the photos of the massive flooding are almost beyond belief. Thoughts and prayers, folks.........and lots of them.

Well, the C House sits in the middle of the Sask inland delta- evacuation there is a 'natural and regular phenomenon=- and its approx. 500 people.

Lethbridge is well designed, with only only bridges & Rec. facilities in the Valley- plus the water plant. The City fathers showed a lot of Foresight.

WOW You really are the 'uber troll ' this week, aren't you?

Suzuki is sometimes 'right on'. He has been saying for years 'don't build along river bottoms', and don't destroy water absorbing areas.

If I buy an established home, I generally trust that city planning and infrastructure knows/knew more about the safety of the area than I do. I'm not gonna bash on people who put similar trust in a city.

Good Point.

Downtown Calgary. aka fort Brisbois, is built on an Alluvial plain underlaid with groundwater streams.

a great place for a small prairie town, as good well water was easily available. As well as wood.
so we just kept on building ...

I think the Province of Alberta will have to bail people out of this mess being they declared a state of emergency..

It's not like they don't have enough money..

Not sure about that Boomer, 75,000 people probably represents 20,000 homes with damage up to a couple of hundred thousand$. Pretty sure some houses will have to be torn down and rebuilt from scratch. If there's water in the insulation the place is pretty well hooped.

This flood is going to hit the economy badly.. layoffs, closures, buildings demolished..

It may be a boost in construction, and other sectors.. dunno

Alberta government fund is only 200 million, not sure what the federal government kick in, but it will fallshort of the billions, upon billions of dollars to repair.

I wonder, being that the spring melt off is about to get underway, how much more damage.. infrastructure, transportation, rail lines out, hwy 1 washed away..

What about the Calgary Stampede in a few weeks??

Why they choose to rebuild in the same location is rather befuddling. Some still don't have homes after the last flood in 2011.

You can't fix stupid I guess.

Calgary flood victims angered by alleged price-gouging

Bags of ice reportedly being sold for as much as $20 after devastation

One man photographed a receipt showing that he paid $48.72 for a pack of 24 bottles of water, commenting on twitter, "Talk about taking advantage of a society in crisis."

Yes, a liquor store in deer run tried charging $20 for a bag of ice, don't think they sold any and I think it will cost them. As for the bottled water, when you buy individual bottles out of the cooler you pay a premium no matter what day it is.
