Is it possible for the mind to be without a pattern , to be free of a "swing" of desire?I think it is definitely possible . Such action is living in the now .To live is to be without hope , without the care of tomorrow ; it is not hopelessness or indifference .But we are not living , we are always pursuing death , the past or the future .Living is the greatest revolution .Living has no pattern ,but death has : the past or the future ,the what has been or the Utopia .From what I observe most live for Utopia ,inviting death , not life .

I don't know if we can be entirely free of desire but we can live without expectation of those desire being fulfilled. If I get up in the morning and think that I would like to do something and head in that direction but something happens that prevents me from moving forward, I do not fret. I just look around and see what is attainable. It may just be going down to the coffee shop to see where that leads me.

I could desire to be in an intimate relationship with a woman but at the same time know that it will never happen. Do I pine about it or rail against life for being unfair. No, Life is just what it is. We can accept the way things are or we can be miserable but what is the outcome of that - we die of cancer? slam into a truck on the highway? Kind stupid! Living in the moment is not very easy in this insane society we inherited but is worth moving toward living like that as much as possible.

i didn't study science for fun. It's a way of life. A way of thinking. it works, too, unlike spouting pseudophilosophical trivia with the ocassional paradox thrown in to make you look clever.

:cool:The trivia and the paradox don't work.
Just another day, some more trolling.........:lol:
Probably trying to hack your ISP when you respond.
How much can one get for them in China?

hermanntrude ,

how is it possible to be without desire unless you desire to be without desire? that's a paradox, and therefore impossible.

Nope ,the problem lies in your inability to read and comprehend a very simple post which in turn does not "make you look very clever", and hermanntrude , that ain't no paradox .

When you're planning for tomorrow or the future, you're not wishing or planning for death.... geez... you did what you want to do for the now and now you are planning on what you want to do in the now tomorrow..... what's wrong with that?

Why must everything be absolute? You claimed we are all pursuing death, the past and/or the future..... if we can all pursue those things, then why can't we pursue the now as well at the same time as all of those? Why does it have to be one set or the other one?

If you don't reflect on your past, your history and where you may be going or doing, how do you ever know where or what you are doing now in life?

I focus on what is happening around me and to me everyday of my life and I think plenty about the present as well as my immediate surroundings..... but I also see no issue or problem with expanding your awarness to what may come and what has already come before.

I mean, if you want to live like a Goldfish with a very short memory span, knock yourself out

"Holy Crap.... I'm a Goldfish.... wh.... where am I? A Bowel??... Bu.... But how did that happen??..... Bzzzeerrrpp......"
