I read Atlas Shrugged and I can honestly say that it was the WORST book I ever read! My grade 9 science teacher suggest that I pick it up and it wasn't until years later that I realized that Atlas Shrugged was filled with atheist philosophy. Mr. Cecil was trying to brainwash me! See what happens when you take prayer and Christianity out of school?!

Not the worst I ever read but not something to make a movie out of. You have to be stuck in a camp with no satellite to appreciate bad books.

Or on a boat 150 nautical miles from land. Boxes of crappy westerns...

Actually, you are presenting A christian viewpoint since there are many.

No, I'm giving A viewpoint which happens to be Christian. Christian denominations may differ on minor issues, but we all agree on the fundamentals like Christ resurrecting from the dead. That's the universal Christian perspective, not A perspective.

I guess I win then, because you refuse(can't) give me any evidence for your foolish claims.

I guess you do then. Of course, if learning something was more important than winning you would ask about it or just Google it.

In 1997, Rev. Bill Phipps was elected Moderator at the 36th General Council. Controversy again descended on the church when later the same year, Phipps stated in an interview that he did not believe that Jesus physically rose from the dead.[16]

Oops.....I guess maybe you don't "win"

Alright, but doesn't everyone think their some sort of expert? That just seems to be human nature. Look at Cliffy, he will tell you that truth is relative, that what's true for me isn't necessarily true for him. But then he holds this idea of relative truth as the absolute truth(which is contradicting) and expects me to accept it. "I know and you don't" sort of thing.

Plus, I've been in both positions, Godless and Godly. I may not be an expert, but I know some things.
I present my personal point of view. I believe the truth is relative, you think there are absolute truths. Just because I disagree you say that I'm godless over and over like it is the absolute truth even though I have denied your continuous and unfounded accusation. Hindus, indigenous people and many others believe in a creator or supreme being. Just because they don't believe in the bible does not mean any of us are atheists (except in your muddled mind). The problem with absolute beliefs is that they close the mind to the possibility that others may be just as right as you are (or just as wrong). It leaves no room for further growth or learning. I try to learn something new every day and my beliefs tend to morph as new information is absorbed. Your mind sounds like it is hermetically sealed from the stuff you continually post. We all know what Christians believe but you refuse to listen to what others believe. You view the beliefs of others as an affront to yours, as a put down. That is because you constantly put down others and condemn them to eternal damnation for not believing as you do. That is a very annoying trait.

Liberals pissed about the release of Atlas Shrugged?

LOL!!!

The release at this time is very fitting considering the fact that Ayn Rand's double life and hypocrisy was disclosed last month:

The Hypocrisy Of Ayn Rand

January 30, 2011 By mario piperni 14 Comments

I never got around to reading Atlas Shrugged…and I don’t think I ever will, but I have read Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead. It was required reading back in my architecture school days. The lead character in Rand’s novel is Howard Roark, a young independent-minded architect who refuses to compromise in his work and designs his buildings in his unique style of modern architecture. He blows up one of his buildings rather than see it altered in any way. It is classic Rand in her depiction of individualism over collectivism.
Well here’s bit of interesting info which has been floating around for a few days now. It involves Ayn Rand and her actions after discovering she had lung cancer.
An interview with Evva Pryror, a social worker and consultant to Miss Rand’s law firm of Ernst, Cane, Gitlin and Winick verified that on Miss Rand’s behalf she secured Rand’s Social Security and Medicare payments which Ayn received under the name of Ann O’Connor (husband Frank O’Connor).
As Pryor said, “Doctors cost a lot more money than books earn and she could be totally wiped out” without the aid of these two government programs. Ayn took the bail out even though Ayn “despised government interference and felt that people should and could live independently… She didn’t feel that an individual should take help.”
But alas she did and said it was wrong for everyone else to do so. Apart from the strong implication that those who take the help are morally weak, it is also a philosophic point that such help dulls the will to work, to save and government assistance is said to dull the entrepreneurial spirit.
In the end, Miss Rand was a hypocrite but she could never be faulted for failing to act in her own self-interest.
So Ayn Rand was a welfare mooch…well, kind of. The point here is that Rand was vocal in her opposition of government programs like Social Security and Medicare. Yet when the time came when she could benefit from these same programs, she did so…in secrecy.
In the end, the queen of individual rights and limited government and staunch opponent of the welfare state, turned out to be nothing more than your common, everyday hypocrite.
“There can be no compromise on basic principles. There can be no compromise on moral issues. There can be no compromise on matters of knowledge, of truth, of rational conviction*.” ~Ayn Rand
…unless your name is Ayn Rand…err, Ann O’Connor.

Biggest piece of S.H.I.T. liar anywhere. She is now the biggest laughing stock in the right wing.

I'm not sure - perhaps the intellectual level of the school increases? It could hardly go the other way.

As for the thread; I doubt that any liberal is unduly concerned about a film promoting Ayn Rand's blather. That would be like saying that the Terminator films would turn people against robotics. People see films for what they are - as entertainment or in the case of Michael Moore and his ilk, a way of presenting social commentary in an interesting manner. However, there is little evidence that films changes the minds of many people.

I may be guilty of carelessly labeling someone as Godless or atheist, when perhaps they were in fact agnostic, but guess what, I don't like being called "religious"! It was the "religious" people who persecuted Jesus!

Second, I DON'T put other members down - you get an infraction for that - and I have NEVER condemned someone to hell - EVER! I'm the one who thoroughly explained that we don't know what people say literally 2 minutes before they die. Up until the moment of death you can be saved, a "death bed" conversion. If people continue in their ways they certainly can go to hell, but to condemn someone and write them off is pretty foolish and I know better.

Third, if you think Godly talk is annoying I'm afraid that's not my problem. When I've been annoyed or offended by people it was because I was the one that needed an attitude adjustment. I needed to have a more loving and forgiving attitude. I don't get annoyed, offended or impatient with people anymore and you shouldn't have to either.

Finally, I only used you as an example in my post because you and I have conversed several times and I have a grasp of what you believe - AND I know your a good sport because I have seen you demonstrate your sense of humour several times. So why your attacking me in your post perplexes me. I feel like you're grumpy at the world and I'm getting the brunt of it today. :( Buds, remember?

Yep, sometime in March or April, Atlas Shrugged is going to hit the big screen. And boy oh boy, are the lefties ever pissed! That isn't the sound of popcorn being made or bubble wrap being popped, it's liberal heads exploding!

What I find humourous about all this is that these are the same bobbleheads that will watch crap like 'Broke Butt Mountain' or pay to see Michael Moore crockumentaries...and they are absolutely livid that a prophetic 60 year old novel should hit The Big Screen.

I am something of a chit house objectivist myself and I personally think that as entertainment, Atlas Shrugged was a flop. It reads like a poor 1940's black and white movie and it slogs for the most part. It is a good primer for the evils of socialism - but such education is wasted on stupid people that can't see the intuitively obvious flaws in it anyways. I don't have high hopes for this flick, I have seen what happens when Hollywood flakes dumb down great literary works for the ignorant masses with short attention spans - and hold little hope of this latest effort being worthwhile.

In any event, after the disappointing dreck coming from Hollywood these days...this is at least a slight improvement. Hopefully the trend continues.

The lefties are pissed?

What lefties?

I haven't heard boo from anybody, in fact, as a bit of a movie buff myself, I haven't heard two craps about this movie...... in your long winded rant, you didn't even bother to explain what this movie was all about.

Geez, now I gotta go and look it up just to see what all Your commotion is all about.

This better be worth my time looking up......

Movie Trailer:

^ Looks like a friggin snore fest..... and this is just part one?

You mean there's going to be other movies following this one?

Yawn..... moving on.

If you think Atlas Shrugged was the worst book you've ever read, then you need to read more......

Yeah, like the Great Gastby. I had to read that stupid book twice and watch the movie once..... I still don't know wtf it was about.

How did religion get into this you feather headed dingle nuts? Cripes you can post something about gardening and before ya know it some rabid atheist is claiming that the brussel sprout is proof positive that there is no God. Focus, damn you all!!!

Myself, someone whom is referred to as a lefty, I agree with your view here..... wtf does any of this have to do with religion or atheism? I never once heard of this book, just saw the trailer for the movie, and all I see are a couple of fancy suits talking about building a railroad or something and driving some train to make profit.

Big deal..... how does any of that relate to religion in schools..... and why is this a movie?

You can throw in all the dramatic music and fancy CGI trains driving fast all you want..... it still looks boring.

I remember the finest piece I ever wrote on an internet forum - was written about atheists. At the time, Elton John had shocked everyone when he said the Bible should be banned because religion is the cause of all the world's problems.

I wouldn't say all..... but most.
