Would you believe James E. Holmes was a great student and a neuroscience PHD candidate? This
means he already had a B. sc and a Masters.

The thin line between genius and insanity really exists.

Both conditions are deviance from the norm.

Indeed, I recall reading that the judge who sentenced Ted Bundy to death said that Bundy had wasted a fine mind and could have done great things. Instead he chose rape and murder.

John wayne Gacy was the same way. They said that if they had commited Gacy he would have been ready for release the next day. Also that if he would have been in the jury selection that he would have likely been picked as a jurer, and gone on to be the lead jurer for the trial.

This is the big story on the conspiracy channels. Obama is putting up a bill on gun control for vote in two weeks. The clincher for them is that columbine happened in the same time frame with relation to similar bill being voted on and was just across town. Maybe there is some psychotronics going on there. Denver is a hot spot for the theorists anyway.

Some are saying he was dressed as Bane the bad guy in the movie. He had the gas mask for the tear gas.

Interesting fact that there was a trailer played at the start of the film showing a movie theatre being shot up from behind the screen at the end of it. The shooter entered the theatre, 15 minutes into the movie. Entering through the emergency exit at the bottom and he started shooting after setting off the tear gas. A lot said they thought it was a promotional stunt because of the trailer.

It's so obvious I am not sure why I didn't think of this as the culprit.

This reminds me of the Norwegian mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik... his victims basically trapped and confused.

At least, he will face a death sentence I hope.. it only took them 6 years and 2 months to execute Timothy McVeigh.. hopefully less time with this animal.

The gun control debate should start at nine o'clock eastern. Mind you they should
ban assault rifles and limit the amount of ammo one can buy on line legally. 6000
rounds is a lot to buy on line. As one study stated according to Pierce Morgans
program, there are almost as many guns as there are people in America.
After the election they need to address this issue in some way.

This has really nothing to do with guns per se. By the time a person gets this whacked out he cares nothing about the legality of the weapon or even what weapon he uses to perform the deed.

Wow. I can't imagine simply going to the movies and ending up in a body bag or the ICU. Wonder what this loser's 'motivations' will turn out to be.

Some pathology expert commented on TV that he graduated from school and only managed to find a job at McDonald's - he got mad at the world for his failings and resorted to attacking the most vulnerable people he could find. As soon as the cops show up he cowered like a sissy and gave up without a fight.

Yes. A person who dresses up as the joker and shoots innocent children for fun deserves nothing less than death.

If he is found guilty, he will be treated, yes. When he understands what he has done, then they go through the court process..

If he is found guilty, he will be sentenced to life in prison or death. If he is deemed to need treatment, he will be found not guilty by reason of insanity and transferred to the loonie bin.

Sort of like that nutcase in Tucson a year or so ago who did something similar and badly wounded that senator. What became of him?

Yeah, he needs some kind of treatment all right! Amputation just above the shoulder might work!

It would be a Prison Mental Hospital, that have plenty in the USA, also there are plenty of mentally ill people in prison.

The defendant can get off with an "innocent due to insanity" defense only if it can be demonstrated that he or she was incapable of distinguishing the wrongness of the crime. And even then, it's about the hardest defense to pull off.

If convicted of "innocent due to insanity" generally spend more time in a mental institution that they would spent in prison.

Don't call this guy crazy just yet. I hope the media does not portray this guy as a crazed loner unless he is one and will portray him honestly for a change. If he appeared normal before this, please, just say he is and don't turn him into the boogieman.

University Of Colorado Medical School is where this guy was a student so how you going to get a violent, crazed, loner out of that fact?

These folks did not do the shooting; direct your indignation where it belongs - at the shooter.

No, the people who sold him those guns should be strung up and shot. More people die every year from guns in the US than US servicemen have been killed in Iraq and Afhganistan the last decade. It's absolute insanity and it's time people got deprogrammed from the NRA cult.

Guns don't kill people, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE...

There has been plenty a time I was happy to have my S&W .40 in my truck in DC or Chicago.. it's protection and if used correctly can save my life..

So I guess the car makers of GM, Ford, Chevy should be strong up too. Those cars kill people when there is a drunk driver behind the wheel.

You wouldn't outlaw cars would you?

But the driver behind the wheel, or the shooter behind the gun.. they are the ones responsible and should be held accountable.

The Gun, A Car, A Plane is just a tool.. with an person behind it.

Should we outlaw plane travel because of 9/11 ?? Planes can be used as a weapon?? Actually, so can a car.

Your argument is utterly absurd. Automobiles for the most part serve a useful purpose. Guns for the most part don't. If you eliminated every private firearm in the US there would be no noticeable impact other than a lowering of the number of horrendous shooting incidents. If you eliminated automobiles the US would be returned to the horse and buggy age and probably suffer economic collapse. Ditto for aircraft.

You have also overlooked the blatant fact that if used as intended, cars and planes don't kill anyone, unlike guns, which if used as intended kill quite a few people.

BTW I really have gotten tired of that moronic "Guns don't kill people, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE..." The phrase completely ignores the reality of the problems created in all societies where gun ownership it out of control as this case in Aurora so aptly illustrates.

BTW I couldn't help noticing that one of the weapons used in this slaughter was a long gun - you know, one of the "safe" weapons that don't need to be registered in Canada.

Yes, yes, people kill people, and guns are the weapons they use to do so.

Except that the guns only and ultimate purpose is to kill people. It's made to kill people, it's designed to kill people and even if you only use it to target shoot, in the end the original purpose was to kill.

That is the big difference between a friggin car and a gun, or plane and a gun. That's why your whole comment is asinine.

The US needs to get over their whole gun issues - kind'a like a daddy-mommy issue - and realize that if something isn't done, more incidents like this are going to keep happening. Obviously the current Background checks and other "precautions" aren't working. When will it click in that something stronger needs to be done? (Oh, right, "Never" is the answer to that, I forgot).

And that vid clip - if you think Gun Ownership equals Freedom, then you're one of the sick people who needs guns taken away from them and never allowed to go near them again.

Oh get real!!!

He bought them PERFECTLY LEGALLY.

The people that sold him the guns sell thousands every year, these were probably the first ever to be used in a murder.

READ the US constitution.

Baloney.

I live in a gun culture. The vast majority of people I know own guns, hunt, target shoot, and many of them own handguns. I carried a gun in my job for over a decade, and know dozens of people that did the same.

I have never known anyone seriously wounded or killed with a gun. One guy was hit with bullet fragments from a richocet.........no medical aid required. That is IT!!! Oh, and I knew Che-Che Peters, a low-life accidentally shot by another criminal with an illegal gun back in 1975.

I DO know people that were killed by tobacco, alcohol, cars, and ATVs.

BTW, the right to keep and bear arms is one of those things the peasants fought to get over hundreds of years.........it is not something to be dismissed with an arrogant flick of the wrist.
