Walmart is like a plague bascillus, coming in and destroying townscapes, local industry and retail. They pay minimally and thrive on a culture desperation that they impose. They are one of the ultimate symbols of the ability of Global Free Market Capitalism to utterly destroy local communities and nations.. and to make those parasites willing to feed on the margin between the Maquilladora culture.. and whatever residual wealth exists in first world towns they enter.. vastly rich.

Every since I read the bait and switch horror stories about Walmart's sell out on the American people, I look upon them with distrust and contempt, and wonder how many Canadian businesses they killed off? What do they offer our communities now? Slave labor jobs and cheap crappy products from China. If I had my way, I would send them all packing. Sorry to say but I see them as economic parasites that take much and give so little.

The Chinese products you find to be cheap and crappy are made to the puchasers specifications, the Chinese don't give a damn once they have thier money, do you think WallMart specifys the finest materials available do you think they throw away repeat sales. I have bought many Chinese engines and hydraulic valves every bit as good as the ones that used to be made in North America, with respect to esmall engines better in fact than the leading western brands. There is nothing wrong with Chinese engineering and everything wrong with the thieves like WallMart.

You want the truth walter? You can't handle the truth!!!!!!! Bloody cheapskate!!

So we'd be much better off if they just f**ked off and we could purchase our goods elsewhere at higher cost? Makes sense!

You could have supported Canadian industry but you were to cheap and the first chance you got you stabbed local industry in the back and now you're stuck with plastic spoons and cardboard houses.

Hey there is a sale on the new 4K Samsung TV 55 inch for $1399 at Walmart.

Did you know they actually buy Canadian made products from manufacturers here in Canada? You would be surprised at just how much Canadian made goods are sold in Canadian Walmarts.

Unless you're Joe Biden, Canada isn't China yet.

I rarely go into a Walmart now. A real grocery store is at the other end of the mall and Wally doesn't carry much in the way of groceries anyways. After a couple times of buying something, liking it, and wanting more just to find out that Wally ran out and hasn't a clue when it'll get more, I gave up going there. A neighbour's gf works their and says the wages vary but are pretty decent for the work. But, if Wally left, I wouldn't miss it because the only things I buy there anymore are batteries and blank dvd or cds.

Anglo-Saxon word for foreigner: walsk

As in "walnut" "foreign nut"

As in "Walmart" "foreign store"

Lots of Walnut trees here in Ontario ;)

My grandfather's farm had a row of two hundred year old Black Walnut trees about an eighth of a mile long ... all gone now, to millions of stereo cabinets, probably.

In the retail industry there is a term of reference know as "LOST LEADER." What that means is that they get you in the door with a very low priced item that you will buy, then assume that you will buy the rest or a good portion of your grocery list at the store. It works in a lot of cases.
Yep, just like milk at convenience stores. It's almost always cheaper than at the grocery stores.

I think Walmarts exploit communities and provide crappy jobs. They all suppress and discourage family start up shops. Thumbs down IMO.

If that is the case then someone better is going to come along to replace them. Zellers and Target already did that here but they are now gone! :) :)

As opposed to all the local small businesses that pay minimum wage and offer part time work with zero benefits.

Canadian Tire has been killing mom and pop ops for decades upon decades upon decades.

But they are a Canadian oppressor so it is OK.
