Oakville Trafalgar High School transgender shop teacher Kayla Lemieux can wear a blonde wig and oversized prosthetic breasts in her class and there’s nothing the Halton District School Board can do about it.
This is what staff, asked to explore options, told the elected trustees Wednesday night in Burlington.
“It is clear from the above analysis that the implementation of a formal staff dress code or grooming standards would likely expose the board to considerable liability,” a report to the board states. “Even if a dress code is implemented for non-discriminatory reasons, it would likely be found to be discriminatory where it adversely affects an employee or group or employees on the basis of their code-protected grounds.”
The board’s hands are tied on how to deal with the in-class attire of Lemieux who was born male but now identifies as female.
“The Ontario Labour Relations Act imposes a ‘statutory freeze’ during the period when there is no governing collective agreement, which prohibits employers from altering working conditions during negotiations,” HDSB Superintendent of Human Resources Sari Taha said Thursday. “In consideration of this, and the board’s obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code, the HDSB has advised its Board of Trustees that even if a dress code is implemented for non-discriminatory reasons and in good faith, it would likely be found to be discriminatory.”
The teacher was not known to dress in this manner at work prior to this school year, but that doesn’t matter.
“Even a truly reasonable and non-discriminatory dress code or grooming standards would most likely fail to achieve the HDSB’s intended goal of being an employer that fosters a culture of professionalism, respect, equity and inclusion,” Taha said.
Meanwhile, Lemieux is said to still be teaching dressed in women’s clothing with large breasts and has also been noticed in other parts of town dressed this way.
Lemieux’s teaching skills are not in question. In fact, some trustees have told the Toronto Sun she is an outstanding teacher who’s extremely well-liked by students.

However, it is difficult to know for sure since in today’s world of political correctness, cancel culture and woke extremism, offer an opposing view on controversial subjects like this often leads to backlash.
There have been protests outside the school and police have been called. There have also been heated discussions at the board meetings. However, it now seems the issue is settled and Lemieux can dress as she chooses.
But not everybody is happy.
“This is simply ridiculous,” said Pete Baklinski, director of communications at Campaign Life Coalition (CLC), adding “no one should accept any other form of sexual perversity, no matter how it’s dressed up, being paraded in front of minors at school.”
The CLC has delivered a petition with 5,000 signatures to the board demanding Kerry “Kayla” Lemieux’s removal from the class because “we saw this teacher’s fetish for wearing large fake breasts with extruding nipples as pornographic and a threat to children.”
The pro-life and family values CLC believes “parents should rise up, pull their children out of the school, and make it clear that their children will not return until the board starts putting children, instead of employees, first.”
But Baklinksi is realizes “parents, unfortunately, won’t be getting any help from Prime Minster (Justin) Trudeau who’s about to make an appearance in Canada’s Drag Race.”
“Trudeau has proven to be an enemy of Canadian families by promoting the delusional lifestyles that lead to this kind of shameful situation,” he added.
No matter the outrage, the HDSB says Lemieux is welcome to teach class dressed any way she likes.
