That's a real shame, but perhaps there is still time for you to get a life..........;-)
Yes. It seems that we only learn from our mis-takes. If a person has never made any, what have they learned about life? Even a dog will learn that biting tires can cause brain damage.

I agree that we all make mistakes, but one can also learn from watching how
stupid others can be on occasion, without actually having participated in the
act of stupidity.

I did a very stupid thing when I was 8, along with my girlfriend, same age.
we were having a picnic in the basement, and started saying, "I bet I can get
more food in my mouth than you can, no you can't, yes I can, well by the time
I got finished playing that game, I began to choke, couldn't breath, and also
couldn't just spit out food, had to pull it out with my fingers, while in a fit
of panic. I have never forgotton that dumb move, and made sure I told it to all
of my kids at some time, so they wouldn't be that stupid, I almost choked to death.

Yes. It is amazing any of us survive our youth, but we do. Some other dumb things I've done:
- Driving down St Catherine's Blvd in Montreal stoned on LSD just to watch the neon lights melt onto the pavement (several times).
- Six of us got really drunk and on the way home decided to moon a driver that was approaching us from behind. We were spread out across the road. When we dropped our drawers, he sped up and tried to hit us. Really hard to run in that position.
- Drove my Honda Motorcycle off a hair pin turn at 90 K/hr into a pile of rocks
- (that night) let my cousin talk me into rubbing horse liniment onto my bruised muscles that were also covered with scraped, cut and bleeding skin. Spent an hour in a cold shower yelling.

One thing that has baffled me all my sensible life is why is society set up so that we make all the most important decisions of our life when we are the stupidest...........acquiring an education, choosing a career/job,, choosing a spouse, choosing the material possessions we want in life, making huge financial decisions. No wonder we are all so screwed up, we spend all our sensible years trying to undo the damage.

The stupidest mistake was putting so much trust in the words of another. I'll never have unprotected sex with Tiger Woods again.

Someone allready said the 'youth wasted on the young' thing, but it is so true.
And also, one would think because all those mistakes are made when we are young,
that the next generation would learn from the previous one, 'not so', they just
do it over again, I've always wondered about that, there is definitely a flaw in
the human learning system.

I made some my best decisions when I was young, one of them was not getting a post secondary education....I started a business and bought a house instead.

Wiser words were never spoken...;-)

Unfortunately when circumstances change in our lives, even when we get older, new opportunities to do dumb things still seem to present themselves; Not so long ago while recovering from medical problems I decided to take up cycling to keep in shape and get back on the road to health more quickly. Having moved off the farm with our dog to a more urban setting I thought it would be a good idea to take her with me. This is a former outside dog, part whippet, part border collie, and part teenager. The speed, the spirit, and the attention span, respectively. A dog that needs to run but now doesn't have the acreage to do it. A dog I have clocked doing 40 mph in a sprint. Having her lope along side of me at a gentle pace with her leash in my left hand was enjoyable, until she spied the squirrel to her right. Yup, she bolted as if she were rocket powered, the retractible leash reached its limit before I could let go, took my left hand, still firmly on the handle grip, twisted the handlebars fully to the right, and I caught air. When I regained cousiousness she had the squirrel treed and I had, among other things, a broken collar bone.

My sister suffered a similar misfortune about 20 years ago doing the same thing...ended up with a dislocatd shoulder. Guess I should have told you sooner.:lol:

Oh my, that definitely could have been more serious. I bred and trained dogs for
years, so took them beside me on my bike many times, never had the problem you
had, but some just abouts, so I can relate.

The first stupid thing I remember was not why I got swatted originally, but after already getting a trimmin' from ma I defiantly proclaimed, "that didn't hurt" as only an obnoxious 5 year old could, and in front of company to boot. Well, the second trimmin' did, on my bare arse this time, and in front of the same company. It taught me not to tickle the tail of the dragon again, unless I planned a fast escape route first.
