Actually, if you have a wack of kids now-a-days, the Canada Child Benefit is quite generous, especially if you are a one income family. I have seen people who make in excess of $80,000 with 2 kids still receive benefits. The most I ever saw was $10!
So the immigrants who come here with 4 or 5 kids score big time and do really well, even if in a minimum wage job. They come from nothing so enjoy a nice lifestyle because they know how to make due with what they receive.
Our kids are spoiled rotten and need to learn the value of a buck.
I am a boomer and have worked (and continue to work) for over 50 years. Everything I have I earned. Every election that I have participated in, I have voted for the person I thought would at least try to get our county's finances in order. None have been successful mainly because of the demands of the population to get more "freebies' and for our elected politicians to give them what they want so that they can be re elected. It's disgusting that this has happened and we should be ashamed of ourselves. I don't envy the next generation at all. The debt we're leaving them is unconscionable and the worst of it is, that the debt continues to increase under Mr. Selfie so Boomers aren't the only ones to blame. Who voted this ass in?? Don't think it was the Boomers, but we still have to accept responsibility for what has been done in the past.

I'm not sure how many would agree with you but I can understand the rationale...............having kids is a personal choice and people have the freedom to make up their minds accordingly. (Don't expect a father of the year award)
If I recall correctly, back when I was a youth, 6% seemed to be a more or less standard acceptable rate. What bearing that would have on today's rates I wouldn't have an inkling!

And that is about right for the early 60's, point is, there hasn't been a "standard". If you look at a graph starting in the 40's you will see a gradual climb to the peak in the 80's and a decline to where we are now.
