Official lyrics:

O Canada, our home and native land
True patriot love, in all our sons command
with glowing hearts we see thee rise
the true north strong and free
God keep our land, Glorius and free
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!

Here is a PC version I found on the web that made me nearly cry:

Do you have a problem with our anthems current lyrics:

Does the:

native reference
"sons command" reference
God reference

upset you?

I hope the lyrics NEVER change. I know this song by heart and I would not want it any other way.
I like those changes...they are well thought out and make more sense. I say change it.

Change it? Give in to political correctness?

God will never be taken out of the anthem, EVER.

And Judge Sanctus, can sure bring the fun down a notch, eh?o

PC. MC, THC, PPP, CTC...who cares...I don't care. I just look at the new lyrics and feel that they are pretty well thought out, make sense, and work....so, I say, change away! Just make sure that Celine Dion doesn't make a version....:)

I won't back you up on the rest of your opinion, but your opinion of Celine is bang on my friend.

What...nothing ever changes? Why not. Things change. The tune is that same...right? A few word changes that make alot of sense is throwing out our history and heritage??? Didn't folks sing god save the queen until...what...the 60's or something? That changed. That was part of our history. That was part of our heritage...that's been thrown out the window. I just look at these proposed revisions and feel that they make alot of sense...not necessarily in a "don't offend" anyone way....just in a "makes sense to me" way. What can I say.

Just for fun I made a truly horrific version myself. I'd cry really...

Oh Canada, our home and taken land,
Truly proud and smug, in all we understand
With glowing hearts, we greet the tide
The true melting pot we be
From far and wide, Oh Canada
We greet newcomers with gleeee
Ottawa keep our land, in mediocrity
Oh Canada we accept all openly

Canadian Culture - what is it?

I have watched over the years as bits and pieces of Canadiana are given away, altered, changed, deleted, amended, and generally apologetic mea culpas have ruled the nation which is trying to woo
newcomers to its vast lands when the newcomers are choosing Canada as it is.... not as it is 'trying to be'.

What has gone wrong is Canada's image of itself - its self worth and its self importance?

There is no need of change to suit those who have never experienced the Canadian way - all newcomers are invited to take part and join - why then would Canada feel the need to accommodate
through change?

It has puzzled me that the great proud nation feels unworthy to maintain its origins, traditions, and all of its original characteristics which has made it vital and successful on the world stage...

Well, said :) You get a rep for this one :)

Newfoundland!
EXACTLY....there's a whole 2 paragraphs of the British National anthem that NOBODY ever knows...or ever plays......apart from strangley the Japanese in the 2002 Football world cup...which made everyone in England rush online to see what the other 2 paragraphs were!!.

Now at least it's not THAT bad!!

I read somewhere that the reason we never sing the other verses is that queen victoria got bored listening to the whole thing and so decreed that at public events only the first verse would be sung.

Personally I like the canadian anthem in either version, although the native line probably does leave some of the ACTUAL native canadian people a bit miffed.... it's so much more interesting than the british national dirge.

Anthem Change.? Here we go again..Politicians must be back at work.

I was told by an ol Vet (My Grandpa), last time this lyric debate came up ..That the words " In all thy sons Command " were there to represent what the fathers would say to their sons as they left for war..."Protect your mom and sister while I'm Gone"...I liked that interpretation .But if Politicians want to change a lyric how about .." In all and 1's command"..Or "1 and alls' Command ".Or perhaps in Alberta they can say "1 and y'alls' Command " or even better still .Just leave it be..

" All in U.S. command " is unexceptable.( with respect to our friends and allies)

Yep ..Looks like politicians are back at work Stirrin' up the old B.S..

Here's an idea ..Instead of pickin' and pokin' at the countries anthem ..How about we work on Parlimentary Reform ..Like cutting the numbers of politicians down to 2 parties ...

A Green party and a Blue Party ....A More Environmental/Ecological Party Vs A More Economical Party ....:)..In perfect Balance and Harmony ...

Have A Green /Clean Tech Canada....;-):lol::p

:canada:Oh ...Canada...

Peace

How come nobody had any trouble with our culture or our anthem when we were doing so well at the Olympics?
I say "Leave the anthem alone!"

Many people were concerned about Parliament shutting down a for a little break. First week back and here we have a proposal to change the National Anthem. Maybe they should have taken a longer break to gather their senses about them.

Greenfish, no one in Alberta says "y'all" unless they're a transplant from the South.

As for the national anthem, I still like The Maple Leaf Forever better...

If we're going to go so far as to eliminate any gender bias, how about eliminating references to violence (standing on guard), any references to native or immigrant (our home and native land), references to medical conditions (glowing hearts), ambiguities (true north? Is there a false north?), religious references (God keep our land).
