Virginia man who plowed his truck into Black Lives Matter crowd is the head of the state’s Ku Klux Klan

Over the weekend, a Virginia man was arrested for driving his truck into a crowd of protesters. It has now been revealed that the accused, Harry H. Rogers, is also the head of the Virginia chapter of the Ku Klux Klan.
WTVR News reported Monday that Rogers was charged by police with attempted malicious wounding (a felony), destruction of property (also a felony), and assault and battery (a misdemeanor) after the incident. When he was arrested, Rogers confessed to officers he is the president of the Ku Klux Klan in the state and claimed to be the highest-ranking member of the Klan that is not in prison.
“The accused, by his own admission and by a cursory glance at social media, is an admitted leader of the Ku Klux Klan and a propagandist for Confederate ideology,” said Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon Taylor in a statement. “We are investigating whether hate crimes charges are appropriate.”

A former Michigan police officer who shot a Black motorist in the back of the head will stand trial for second-degree murder, a judge said Monday.

Judge Nicholas Ayoub announced his decision after hearing testimony last week about the death in April of Patrick Lyoya in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

A jury will decide whether Christopher Schurr’s use of deadly force was necessary “after a full and fair trial,” Ayoub said.

Lyoya, 26, briefly ran from a traffic stop then grappled with Schurr across a front lawn before the white officer shot him at point-blank range. The final moment was recorded on video by a man who was a passenger in the car with Lyoya.

Schurr repeatedly told Lyoya to take his hands off the officer’s Taser, according to video. The refugee from Congo was on the ground when he was killed.

Ayoub only had to find probable cause to send the case to the Kent County trial court, a low standard of evidence at this stage under Michigan law.

Schurr’s attorney argued Friday that the officer was defending himself while Lyoya wouldn’t give up. A forensic video analyst, Robert McFarlane, testified that Lyoya failed to comply with 20 commands.

“He pushed. He shoved, popped his arms,” lawyer Matt Borgula said.

Schurr, an officer for seven years, was fired in June after being charged with murder.

Ohio cop must pay man's family $4.4 million in fatal shooting: Jury
Author of the article:Associated Press
Associated Press
Publishing date:Nov 02, 2022 • 20 hours ago • 1 minute read • 11 Comments

EUCLID, Ohio — A white police officer who fatally shot a Black driver during a struggle inside a car in 2017 must pay his family $4.4 million.

An Ohio jury made the award Tuesday, finding that Euclid officer Matthew Rhodes acted recklessly when he climbed into 23-year-old Luke Stewart’s car and shot him as Stewart drove away. The shooting had inflamed racial tensions in Euclid, a Cleveland suburb, and a grand jury declined to indict Rhodes after hearing evidence from prosecutors.

The jury’s finding stemmed from a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Stewart’s mother. The panel said Rhodes must pay Stewart’s family $3.9 million for the loss of his support and companionship and $500,000 for the pain and suffering he went through. But Rhodes will not have to pay punitive damages to the family or attorney’s fees.

The family’s attorneys told Cleveland.com that the verdict provided long-awaited accountability for what happened to Stewart. A lawyer representing Rhodes did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Stewart’s family had filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the city and the officer, but a trial court dismissed the case, and an appeals court agreed, saying there was no clearly established law barring the officer’s conduct. The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear the case in a decision made in May 2021.

Stewart’s family had contended in that lawsuit that police training in the city “encouraged, or at least condoned, excessive force.”

The training included the use of a sketch by comedian Chris Rock, in which he gave “tips” on how to avoid being beaten by police, and cartoons allegedly making light of police violence.

OnlyFans model accused of killing beau hurled racist abuse at him: Report
Author of the article:Brad Hunter
Publishing date:Nov 03, 2022 • 23 hours ago • 2 minute read • Join the conversation

Christian Obumseli reportedly endured months of verbal and physical abuse from his OnlyFans model girlfriend before she allegedly stabbed him to death.

According to the Daily Mail, an audio recording clandestinely recorded by Obumseli, 27, captured OnlyFans star Courtney Clenney, 26, unleashing a tidal wave of invective his way — including racial slurs.

She is charged with second-degree murder in his April 3 knifing death at the Miami condo the couple shared.

The newspaper obtained two audio recordings featuring 13 minutes of Clenney’s tirade. The tapes have been submitted as evidence in her upcoming murder trial.

In one of the recordings, called him the N-word numerous times and ordered him to “man up b***h,” and “shut up and let me f**king slap you, dumb a**.”

And it wasn’t a two-way street. Obumseli can be heard apologizing over and over again, the Daily Mail reported.

His shattered family in Texas believes the model became a “different person” when she was boozing and that she was the aggressor in their romantic tiffs.

Lawyer Larry Handfield — who represents the Obumseli family — called the recordings “shocking.”

“(They show) a consistent pattern with someone who is unhinged and out of control. She is the aggressor and abuser in this whole relationship,” Handfield told the Daily Mail.

In one instance, Clenney scolds her boyfriend asking if he was done “gaslighting me.”

He responds: “Courtney, that’s a f***ing threat. I asked you something … and I apologized but you hit me.”

She retorts: “Shut the f**k up b***h.”

In another clip, she can be heard slapping Obumseli in their car and he begs her to “stop hitting me.”

But when cops arrived at their condo the day before she allegedly stabbed him, bodycam footage shows her crying and begging cops for a restraining order against the victim.

Her legal eagles argue that Clenney killed Obumseli in self-defence and that he was stalking her. However, recent CCTV from their condo’s elevator shows the OnlyFans model pummeling her partner with punches, slaps and hair-pulling.

The couple’s two-year relationship was drama packed. Earlier, she was busted for domestic battery in Las Vegas and cops visited their Austin home on numerous occasions.

Similar complaints were echoed by their neighbours and building staff at the Miami condo. But his family was puzzled over why she wasn’t immediately arrested.

“The bottom line is inextricably clear: Courtney is being treated differently because of her privilege as a wealthy White woman,” the slain man’s brother, Jeffrey Obumseli, wrote on Instagram.

“Within 24 hours following Toby’s death, the detective on the case prematurely concluded this was not a crime of violence.”

Even as the truth began to emerge, the softcore starlet was posting raunchy content on her OnlyFans page. A day after her arrest in Hawaii, the page was taken down.

PARIS (AP) — A Black lawmaker said Friday he was “deeply hurt” after a far-right member of the French parliament made a racist remark during a legislative session, something that has triggered condemnations from across the political spectrum.

The comments shocked many, up to France’s president himself, and raised new questions about xenophobia on the far right and other parts of French society.

Gregoire de Fournas of the far-right National Rally party was heard shouting the words “return to Africa” at the lawmaker, Carlos Martens Bilongo, who was challenging the government Thursday about migrants stranded at sea.

The words prompted immediate uproar in the legislature, leading the president of the National Assembly to suspend the session and launch an investigation. A meeting of the Assembly’s managing body was set on Friday afternoon to decide about potential sanctions.

Due to the uproar and the muffling of the words, it was unclear whether de Fournas said that Bilongo should return to Africa or that the migrants should.

French anti-racist groups stressed that regardless of who was targeted, the comments echo a racist insult toward Black people being told to go back to Africa.

French group SOS Racisme called it “the true face of the far-right: that of racism.” Its president, Dominique Sopo, said “obviously they are extremely violent comments,” no matter what de Fournas was saying precisely.

Speaking Friday on French news broadcaster BFM TV, Bilongo called for de Fournas’ resignation.

He said he received thousands of messages following the incident from people telling him that they hear similar comments in their everyday life. The words “speak to many French who felt hurt,” Bilongo said.

Bilongo, who is from the hard-left France Unbowed party, praised the immediate reaction of anger shown by a large majority of lawmakers from across the political spectrum.

The International League Against Racism and Anti-Semitism condemned the comments as “disgusting” and showing “blatant inhumanity.”

De Fournas said he was referring to migrants at sea and not, as some understood, to his fellow lawmaker. “I fully stand by my comments about the anarchic migratory policies of our country,” he tweeted Friday.

France Unbowed called for a gathering Friday near the National Assembly to support Bilongo.

The Elysee said that President Emmanuel Macron was shocked by the words which are “unacceptable in or outside” the assembly.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said he was “extremely shocked,” telling BFM TV and that it was the first in his 15 years of political life that he heard such “ignominious” words in the body.

The National Rally is the party of far-right leader Marine Le Pen, who lost her third bid for the French presidency to Macron in April. The subsequent legislative elections led to a major breakthrough for the party, which won 89 seats in the 577-member lower house of parliament, up from a previous total of eight.

Le Pen tweeted that de Fournas was “obviously speaking about the migrants transported in ships by NGOs.”

“The controversy created by our political adversaries is gross and won’t deceive the French,” she said.

Group says Montreal cops should apologize to Black man suspected of stealing own car

Montreal police say they’ve opened an administrative investigation into an incident in which a Black man was handcuffed after officers suspected he was stealing his own car.

The force said the officers involved were unable to release the man immediately after determining the car was his because they did not have a handcuff key.

“We are sensitive to the distress and the emotion this citizen went through and the reactions caused by this event,” the police service wrote in a Saturday evening Twitter post.

Civil rights groups have called for police to apologize to the man and raised concerns the incident marks an instance of racial profiling.

A video of the incident circulating on social media shows the man, still in handcuffs, angrily asking the officers why they cuffed him before verifying the vehicle belonged to him and asking whether he was handcuffed because he is Black.

Quebec’s Public Safety Minister Francois Bonnardel said Saturday morning that he will look into what happened and Alain Vaillancourt, the member of the city’s executive committee responsible for public safety, said he has asked the police service to investigate the incident and ensure similar ones don’t happen again.

“A situation like the one experienced by this citizen affects the sense of trust between the police and our communities in Montreal,” he wrote on Twitter. “This bond of trust is essential, not only for police work, but also for the convivial character of our city.”

The video, which appears to have been filmed in the parking lot of the Marche Central shopping complex, shows six minutes of the interaction between the man and the police officers.

As it opens, the man is complaining about his treatment.

“Are you injured? You’re not injured,” one of the officers said in reply.

“It hurts,” the man said, slightly raising his arms handcuffed behind his back.

“I didn’t even hit you,” the officer responds.

“It’s my car, why did you brutalize me when I arrived, that’s my question,” the man said.

One of the officers tells the man he will explain the situation. The man then asks the officers to take the handcuffs off before he speaks to them, but the officers soon realize they don’t have a key for the cuffs.

As they wait for other officers to come unlock the cuffs, the man asks whether he is being treated this way because he is Black.

“Not at all,” one of the officers said.

On Friday, Montreal police said two car theft investigators found an unoccupied Honda SUV in a mall parking lot that had damage around one of its locks consistent with an attempted theft.

The department said before officers determined whether it was stolen, a citizen came to take possession of the vehicle.

“It’s at that moment that he was temporarily detained for investigative purposes by the two police officers. The citizen was released unconditionally and without charge once the verifications were completed. The investigation is finished,” the department said in a post on Twitter.

Alain Babineau, the racial profiling and public safety director at anti-racial profiling group Red Coalition and a 27-year veteran of the RCMP, said that while police can handcuff someone who poses a threat, that escalates the interaction into an arrest.

“Investigative detention has to be very brief and the person should be allowed to leave. So once the person is in handcuffs, it’s no longer an investigative detention but an arrest. and then, as an arrest, it triggers the right to counsel and so on,” said Babineau, who became a jurist after retiring from the federal police force.

He said he worries the officers handcuffed the man because they perceived him as potentially violent.

One element of racial profiling, he said, is the notion that Black males are “perceived as being intrinsically violent and so that’s why the question of racial profiling has to be raised.”

Babineau said police need to apologize to the man and police managers need to sit down with the officers in the video to review their powers and obligations.

“There’s something within the culture of policing that says, ‘we’re never wrong,’ and that is what is wrong with with our culture and that has to change,” Babineau said in an interview on Saturday.

Fo Niemi, executive director of the Montreal-based civil rights organization Center for Research-Action on Race Relations, said he hopes the man will file a complaint with the police ethics commissioner so an investigation can be conducted into what happened before the interactions captured on film.

And he said the police command should apologize to the man.

“This incident once again shows that Black drivers in Montreal cannot feel safe and be free to drive their own car without being subject to some kind of police control and profiling,” he said. “This is what all the people who have turned to us for help told us: it’s the violation of that sense of freedom and security that makes them lose trust in the police.”

The union representing Montreal police officers said the comments by politicians risk fueling “police disengagement.”

“In a society governed by the rule of law, elected officials should refrain from sharing their impressions on the character of a police operation until all the facts are known,” the Fraternite des policiers et policieres de Montreal said in a post on Twitter.

University of Kentucky student accused of assault, racial slurs after video goes viral

LEXINGTON, Ky. — A white University of Kentucky student is accused of physically assaulting a Black student worker while repeatedly using racial slurs, officials said.

The student was arrested Sunday at a residence hall and charged with assault, alcohol intoxication in a public place and disorderly conduct, according to the Fayette County jail. She pleaded not guilty during an arraignment Monday afternoon.

The university said in a statement Sunday that a “disturbing incident” was captured on video in a residence hall. In the video, the female student worker says the other woman hit her multiple times and kicked her in the stomach.

The woman, who appears to be inebriated, can be heard repeatedly telling the student worker, “you’re a n****** and you’re a b***h.”

WARNING: VIDEO BELOW CONTAINS OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE

The student employee was working an overnight shift at the front desk of Boyd Hall, the university said. At one point in the video she says, “I don’t get paid enough for this.”

University President Eli Capiluto said he has reached out to offer support to the victims while officials conduct an immediate review.

“From my view of a video of the incident, the student worker acted with professionalism, restraint and discretion,” his statement said.

He said the video images reflect violence “and a denial of the humanity of members of our community.”

“To be clear: we condemn this behaviour and will not tolerate it under any circumstance. The safety and well-being of our community has been — and will continue to be — our top priority,” Capiluto said.

The victim, Kylah Spring, shared her story on multiple social media platforms and asked people to help spread it.

“This is a story that needs to be shared. This is something that needs to be talked about because this is not only happening on my campus, this is happening at universities all across the nation,” she said. “We, as students of colour, we should not have to face this type of discrimination. We should not have to face this type of violence.”

WARNING: VIDEO BELOW CONTAINS OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE

She said she tried to handle the situation with a sensible approach so no one could fault how she responded.

“I feel like the way I handled the situation is the way it should have been handled. Violence is not always the answer and I know that sounds so disheartening when we face all of these things all the time. We’re just expected to continue to rise above the circumstance, and continues to rise above the situation, but like Michelle Obama said ‘When they go low, we go high.”’

Noose found at Obama Presidential Center construction site

CHICAGO — The firm building the Obama Presidential Center suspended operations Thursday after a noose was found at the site, and it offered a $100,000 reward to help find who was responsible.

Lakeside Alliance, a partnership of Black-owned construction firms, said it reported the incident to police and “will provide any assistance required to identify those responsible.”

“We have zero tolerance for any form of bias or hate on our worksite. Anti-bias training is included in our onboarding process and reiterated during site-wide meetings. We are suspending all operations onsite in order to provide another series of these trainings and conversations for all staff and workers,” the firm said.

Former President Barack Obama’s foundation also released a statement.

“This shameless act of cowardice and hate is designed to get attention and divide us. Our priority is protecting the health and safety of our workforce,” the statement said.

The Chicago Police Department is aware of the noose and the matter is under investigation, said Sgt. Rocco Alioto, a department spokesman.

An alliance spokeswoman, Lara Cooper, said she could not comment on whether it suspects a worker at the site and how the pause will affect the work.

City work to prepare for construction began in spring 2021 with the an official groundbreaking the following September.

The foundation has said the center is slated to open in 2025. Organizers expect it to attract about 750,000 visitors a year.

It will sit on 7.7 hectares of the 291-hectare of Jackson Park, named for the nation’s seventh president, Andrew Jackson. Significantly, it will be located near the Obama family home and where the former president started his political career on the city’s South Side.

The city will own the center under the terms of a 2018 ordinance approved by the Chicago City Council.

The initial cost was projected at $500 million, but documents released by the Obama Foundation last summer showed the cost had climbed to roughly $830 million. Funds are being raised through private donations.

White teacher fired for telling students his race is ‘superior one’

Publishing date:Nov 15, 2022 • 1 day ago • 2 minute read

A white middle school teacher in Texas was fired after he made racist comments to his students.

Video of the incident, which surfaced on social media, shows the man telling his class — many of whom are Black — that his race is dominant, NBC News reported.

“Deep down in my heart, I’m ethnocentric, which means I think my race is the superior one,” he says to the students.

“So white is better than all?” one student asks.

“Let me finish,” the teacher replies. “I think everybody thinks that. They’re just not honest about it.”

Another student challenges the teacher, “I’m not racist, though. I like all types of kinds.”

The teacher responds, “Did I say I don’t like people?”

A third student asks for clarification. “Wait, so you said you are what? You are a racist?” to which the teacher says, “I think everybody is a racist at that level.”

The same student tells him: “No. But you said you are a racist.”

The teacher replies, “I did. I did, yeah, I’m trying to be honest.”

The unidentified man worked in Pflugerville, a suburb in northern Austin.

“Last Friday, Nov. 11, Pflugerville ISD officials were made aware of an inappropriate conversation a teacher at Bohls Middle School had with students during an advisory class,” Pflugerville Independent School District (PfISD) Superintendent Dr. Douglas Killian wrote in a statement.

“As of Monday morning, Nov. 14, the teacher in question is no longer employed by Pflugerville ISD and we are actively looking for a replacement.”

Killian apologized for any “undue stress or concern” caused by the teacher’s remarks, and to the parents of the children who were captured on camera without their knowledge.

Brian Hennington, whose 11-year-old son goes to the school but is not in the fired teacher’s class, went to the school after his wife Monique saw the video posted on Facebook.

“The reason why we were appalled is because it was offensive and we definitely wanted to make sure that our voice was heard,” he told NBC News. “I think more parents need to stand up, especially the parents who had kids in the classroom.”

As for the teacher, Hennington added, “You’re not hired to bring your opinions into the classroom, especially when you have impressionable minds. Those kinds of exploratory conversations, that’s for the parents to expose their kids to.”

Did you see the video on this? Yeah, it was racist and to the non white kids in his class, they 'lost respect' for him and now suspect his grading and teaching them because of his admission.

Sure, everyone is racist; the thing is trying NOT to be.

Nope I quoted the article and it didn't read that way to me he could have been any color with what he was trying to say he just happened to be white
