Here's why home schooling won't work:
School is also babysitting for parents.
Considering it takes both parents nowadays to be able to afford kids, you can't keep one of them home to teach. Hell, look at how most parents dealt with Covid, okay for a while, then freaking out when they realize their precious ISN'T so awesome and a right royal brat when it comes to education.
So no, you're not gonna get home schooling/home education to be a thing ever.

One of the reasons both parents are working is because of the $25 billion the provincial government is blowing out on education. The upper crust set that up nicely though a few years back with income splitting so that work within the home be recognized. Of course they were joking about their partners doing the actual work at home.

Believe me something would come along that would cater to the market. If I remember correctly I was studying about the Egyptians in Grade 8 at age 13. The topic has been relevant possibly twice in 50 years which is nice but hardly essential knowledge. I would rather have done my two hours online and been off to a baseball academy answering to my mother.

You don't have to make a big deal about the home schooling. Everyone has their own path. The decision about education comes when they are 18 and possibly required to show competency before being admitted to university. Universities will grab every dollar so no worries on admission there.

I have never once used the power of ten stuff I learned in Grade 4. Glorified baby sitting is all it is.

Homeschooling is commonly used as a way to indoctrinate children into social conservatism.
It's not gonna fly in Ontario unless there are specific, publicly funded qualification criteria that parents must follow in order to become certified teachers.
You would then need to have home teachers regularly submit test results that show they adhered to regulatory standards and curriculum.
Too bad no one of any importance gives a flyn fukk what you or the rest of the socialist slackers in ontariOWE think.

Worse than that, I have discovered in recent years that much of the ancent history they forced on us all through school was pure bullshit.

Don't get me wrong, if I had kids I'd be home schooling them as it is, even before this pandemic started.

Just the way things are now it's very, very hard to do home school for kids.

The online schooling thing has some good points and of course bad points. Over achievers like my grand daughter do well. She is entering gr 10 and has already finished gr10 math and expects to be done gr12 math by the end of the year. Then there is a slacker I know about the same age hasn't turned a page all summer.

It's like the kids are a commodity and get plugged into the system like raw inventory. Superintendents need Principals who need Vice Principles who need Educators who need Assistants all to have someone sit and read "No I can't said the ant" to a six year old.

Anyone who wants to use the internet will learn how to read. Math basics are a part of every day life.Let kids on their own and their career choice will be made by the time they are fifteen.

The people clinging to this format are the employees of the system. It's laughable to think kids should take a year off as if they have accomplished something by graduating high school. Next up another mostly aimless four to six or eight years in university. And then it is up to you to get a job.

Big, big waste of time and money. Primary benefit is that many people can pay their mortgage because of it. Biggest losers are the kids forced to wander aimlessly.

One week in and all kinds of chaos with schools closing and kids staying home. Gee that was a good plan. Important thing is educators are back to work. Maybe net year.

Almost all the so called history they taught us was wrong or more like His story.

lets start with the easiest one. Columbus did NOT discover North America. There were European Colonies in North America hundreds of years before Columbus got lost at sea.

What I would like to see is a National education system so a kid in Newfoundland can move to BC and still be at the same place in her studies give or take a day or two, not into something completely different. I would also like to see much more independent study on line to cut costs.

The first priority of public education us to provide universal education.

Everybody gets the same.

If you can give your kid more and better because you have the money that's fine - but you can't do so at the expense of public education.

Someone close is becoming redundant eh? If she starts night classes now and learns a little Tagalog maybe she can start over in the health industry.

It's why we paid extra for private. Worth every penny when we still had pennies.

There is no universal education. It is an individualized process. Learn their crap in school only to find out nobody cares.

What is really happening is the first priority of public education is to ensure jobs for educators and bureaucrats. Public education estimated to cost $25 billion in Ontario alone each year. The children are a commodity. There is no one waiting other than parents at the end of the public education. Now it is automatic to go to university to figure out what they want to do for another four to six years. Spend their thirties and forties digging out from the wasted early years.

There is a universal education system in place just as there is a universal health care system in place.

The first priority of each is universality.

You can augment your education and healthcare as much as you want and as much as you can afford to - but you cannot opt out of paying for it. The whole thing is based on everyone paying in.
