This is very interesting.

Results of Blair "consultations" with the public.

The results which he totally ignored.

Relevant points:

Overall Key Findings

 • There are polarized views on a potential ban and limiting access: Overall, participants were strongly polarized on the issue of banning handguns and assault-style firearms. The stakeholder views expressed in two of the engagement channels - the in-person dialogues and written submissions - provided a variety of perspectives both opposed to and in support of a ban. In contrast, most questionnaire respondents (representing a self-selected group of Canadians) were opposed to a ban.
 • Target crime and focus on enforcement: Many participants felt strongly that a ban would target law-abiding owners, rather than illicit firearms, and would not greatly impact crime reduction (particularly gang violence). As a result, many called for enhanced enforcement capacity for law enforcement and border services, as well as harsher punishments for firearms trafficking and gun-related crime.
 • Address underlying causes of firearm violence: One point of consensus among the diverse perspectives is the need to address the socioeconomic conditions that can lead to gun violence, which requires more support for community-level programs and initiatives. These factors include poverty, a lack of education or employment opportunities, lack of mental health supports and social exclusion.
 • Collect and share relevant data on gun crime: There is a need to improve the ongoing collection and sharing of data on gun crime, particularly in terms of sources of illicit firearms and the types of crime being committed. It was expressed that data is critical for supporting law enforcement and border agencies efforts, as well as informing policy and legislation.
 • Willingness for collaboration with the firearms community/industry: Many stakeholders representing various aspects of the firearms community want the opportunity to be more engaged and to collaborate with the federal government to develop solutions on this issue.
 • Need a multi-faceted approach: A wide range of approaches and ideas were discussed, which suggests that a multi-faceted approach is needed to address this issue – rather than implementing a ban in isolation.

Banning guns will do very little!
Actually, JLM it will do nothing to stop gun violence. I can just imagine all the gangs out their getting their chuckles from this latest fascist move by our minority government. They don't have to worry about any old ban - they get their guns illegally.

I hope that's not true.

And I understand it's a pretty long-odds hope.

(I would have said "longshot," but I didn't want to traumatize the poor dears.)

Oh there is definitely more than a grain of truth in what you wrote applying to the current liberal minority government, Tec. A lot more.

Actually I was quite happy to hear his nibs had "banned" guns the other day. but not because of the banning but for the reason we may not have to keep hearing about it.

CBC made sure to refer as tactical to the weapon but no mention of make, model, magazine size to the shotgun.

Man used a semi-automatic, tactical-style shotgun in confrontation with RCMP, ASIRT says

Alberta's police watchdog says a man used a tactical-style shotgun in a deadly armed confrontation with police on a major highway south of Edmonton Wednesday.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating a May 6 incident that started with a gun complaint in Blackfalds, Alta., and ended with a shootout that left a 27-year-old man dead and an RCMP officer seriously injured on the QEII Highway near Leduc.

According to ASIRT, RCMP first responded to a gun complaint at a Blackfalds home at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday. The armed man fired shots from the residence, which seriously injured a woman inside her home. No shots were fired by police. The man then fled the area in a Black BMW sedan.
Police located the sedan heading north on the QEII Highway and deployed a tire deflation device after a brief pursuit, but it did not stop the vehicle. The BMW then crossed the highway median and started travelling north in the southbound lanes.
The vehicle eventually stopped with police vehicles surrounding it. The man, the lone occupant in the vehicle, got out of the sedan and exchanged gunfire with police.
The man was injured and fell to the ground. He died on scene. A police officer was also injured in the confrontation.
"Officers on scene provided emergency medical assistance to both the man and the injured officer, but the man was pronounced dead on scene," the ASIRT release says.
The injured officer was taken to hospital in Edmonton and has since been released.
The man's firearm, described by police as a 12-gauge, semi-automatic, tactical-style shotgun, was recovered from the scene.
Police have not released the man's name.
ASIRT is asking members of the public who may have witnessed or recorded the events, to contact investigators.

Now CBC can use this as support for the ban.

Nothing like vote pandering

Chris Selley: Liberals add even more gun 'ban' incoherence by getting gender involved

……………...In recent days the Liberals have touted the “ban” as a way of protecting women and girls in particular. “These guns make it easier to commit mass murder,” Trudeau added. “And the culture around their fetishization makes our country inherently more dangerous for the people most vulnerable. And that is women and girls.” Trudeau cited reports about increasing domestic violence during the pandemic, and grim statistics about the number of Canadians killed by their spouses.

There is very little evidence to support this case for the “ban.” And when you go looking for it, you wind up only with more questions.
To be fair, there is very little evidence to support any position on gun control. Nobody comprehensively keeps track of how many Canadians are killed using currently restricted weapons, or by the weapons the Liberals are “banning,” or even by rifles as opposed to shotguns — so we certainly don’t know how many men and women are killed by these various kinds of firearms. ......More

Latest gun control effort isn't merely a failure. It corrodes trust among Canadians

In announcing the policy, Public Safety Minister Bill Blair said, "As of today, the market for assault weapons in Canada is closed."
Yet it remains legal for licensed Canadians to purchase a wide variety of semi-automatic rifles, including not only military-style rifles (such as the semi-automatic version of the IWI Tavor X95, a rifle currently in service with the Israeli army), but actual military surplus rifles such as the Soviet- and Chinese-made SKS. The ban has nothing to do with the capability of firearms, the government has simply banned a number of the most well-known models

Since retaining minority government control in 2019, the Trudeau Liberals have used the coronavirus pandemic as a convenient smokescreen to effectively take full control of all spending, taxation, corporate nationalization, and a host of other policies.
But the last thing a government needs if considering a takeover of its own democratic country is an armed civilian population.
This would have to be minimalized.
Justin Trudeau, an admitted admirer of China’s communist government — as well as the Marxist doctrines of Fidel Castro — would know this better than most because he was taught on his daddy’s knee.

I follow the thread almost on a daily basis, and unless you explain yourself a bit more, I doubt that anyone knows wtf you are talking about.

While I DELIGHT in seeing any post that exposes the idiocy of HemerHOID!

I DO WISH you people WOULD STOP giving LIE-berals exactly what they want!

Consider:

Here is an article illustrating just HOW DESPERATE LIE-berals are to change the news media channel away from Wuhan Virus and away from govt failings related to slow and sloppy LIE-beral response to the NEED to quarantine travellers EARLY ON - as was done in Australia and New Zealand!

With some comments of my own in brackets):

(LIE-berals are also FRANTIC to turn us away from too much talk of the current staggering cost of govt aid to the economy! LIE-berals have been trying for years to use electoral reform and various vote rigging methods to paralyse our Parliament and turn it into an out of control SPENDING MACHINE - with NO OFF SWITCH!)

(Sadly - LIE-berals NOW HAVE THEIR WISH - sort of! Our Parliament IS NOW SPENDING with no restraints or limits - it is just TOO BAD FOR LIE-berals that they are finding it so very hard to direct that FLOOD OF GRAVY MAINLY TO LIE-beral FRIENDS and supporters - rather than to the general population!)

'Incoherent' Liberal firearm ban excludes several semi-automatics, potentially outlaws big-game hunting rifles

By Jesse Snyder, From National Post
May 6, 2020

OTTAWA — The Liberal government’s “incoherent” firearm ban excludes several rifles that are nearly identical to the so-called “military-style” firearms that Ottawa intends to outlaw, gun retailers say.

(LIE-berals KNOW their gun plan is NONSENSE! It suits them to have us discuss stupid proposed gun laws - RATHER THAN discuss police options regarding any effort to reduce SMUGGLING of guns and drugs! Idle chat about idiot gun laws
WILL NOT cost LIE-berals any of their desperately needed votes!)

But REAL EFFORTS to control crime WILL COST VOTES! First there are all the special interest groups who support LIE-berals ONLY so long as LIE-beral HUG A THUG judges continue their catch and release - with easy parole and relentless plea bargaining - that turns major crimes into minor ones and lets minor crimes be COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN!)

(Putting convicts in jail COSTS GRAVY that LIE-berals want for themselves! Civil rights MORONS who stir up trouble by whining about how many ethnic groups are over represented in jails - UPSET LIE-berals because such whining EXPOSES the major failings of LIE-beral immigration policy and its messed up politically correct cousin - multiculturalism as all cultures are NOT equal!)

(LIE-berals have tried and failed to blame “white privilege” for the ethnic mix in our jails! LIE-berals DO NOT want us discussing the CRAP attitudes of certain portions of the Cdn population that believe that doing well in school equals SELLING OUT to white society - with the result that some people believe that being a drug dealer or pimp or fence for stolen property is a viable career choice!)
(Nor do LIE-berals want to hear much public discussion of their catastrophic handling of ALL native issues! LIE-berals have tried and FAILED to persuade us that the values of a SMALL RADICAL MINORITY of self promoting hereditary chiefs should take prominence over the wishes of BOTH the Native majority - with its ELECTED leaders and take precedence over the wishes of general Cdn society as well!)

(LIE-berals are so frantic to retain power at any price that they are prepared to cripple Cdn democracy! LIE-berals HAVE ALREADY UNDERMINED the traditional concept of one person and one vote! We have only to look at Nunuvut with its population of 60,000 - represented by TWO MP`s while ridings in Ontari-owe often have as many as 200,000 people AND ONE MP!)

(Or we could look at the long standing discrepancy in Prince Edward Island which as 4 MP`s and really should only have one - or to be generous - maybe two! Such jiggering of numbers ensures that some votes count MORE than others!)

The ban, announced late last week, does not include the Chinese-made Norinco Type 97, for example, a semi-automatic version of the standard-issued rifles used by the People’s Liberation Army of China. Nor does it include the Russian-designed SKS rifle, the precursor to the popular AK-47; the Israeli-made Tavor .223, a semi-automatic rifle developed with the aid of the Israeli Defense Force, or the Canadian-made WK180-C, which gun publication CalibreMag said “functions much like an AR-15”, a firearm Justin Trudeau was at pains to highlight.

(NONE of these details are relevant! All that matters is that LIE-berals appear at prominent places in the news! Our idiot Boy is PAINED by his failure to dominate the fight against Wuhan Virus! The provincial premiers are very much in charge and Trudope is sidelined - a position he finds unsuitable for his ego and unfortunate for his hope of presenting himself as the national “ saviour” while also presenting his first real budget in spring 2021 - with the fate of his minority govt and his own political career hanging in the balance - and the weight of history and social opinion aint swinging his way!)

Meanwhile, the list bans a number of bolt-action hunting rifles used for large game. Some retailers worry the restrictions could also extend to accessorized shotguns used in bird hunts, due to broad language used in the regulations. A spokesperson for Public Safety Minister Bill Blair on Tuesday said the ban would not include shotguns, and was preparing an official statement on the matter as the National Post went to press.

(Laws that aggravate gun owners with stupid rules loses no votes - but incoherent new gun regulations which may not even be enforceable due to legal challenges MAY win votes from animal lovers and Feminazis who deplore the thought of men out in the woods hunting cute cuddly animals! LIE-beral desperation trumps logic and civil rights every time!)

(There are women who ignorantly assume that eating farmed beef in a stylish restaurant is somehow less cruel than shooting Deer in the forest and thus some voters are hostile to hunting for irrational reasons!)

Trudeau says legislation on municipal handgun bans will move ahead but doesn't say when

(Uh huh - legal fire arm owners ARE MUCH EASIER to disarm than the gang bangers that LIE-beral judges are CODDLING in exchange for votes! As for Cdn natives - they IGNORED the Chretien LIE-beral order to register their guns and ignored the LIE-beral order to take fire arms training - and we can expect natives will also IGNORE the LIE-beral order to turn in their AK 47v ASSAULT RIFLES and other heavy weapons!)

(Those who recall the OKA CRISIS will know that natives PROVED they had weapons heavy enough to rip open Cdn army ARMOURED PERSONNEL CARRIERS - and NONE of that weaponry was ever licensed and never handed in either! LIE-berals are picking on EASY TARGETS and ignoring real problems!)

(Chretien LIE-berals told us their gun registry and new training would keep guns out of the hands of suicidal people and yet natives endure an suicide epidemic without ANY govt interference regarding how many guns they own!)

Blair last week banned eleven broadly-defined firearm models, encompassing roughly 1,500 individual firearm variations. The prime minister justified the decision by saying that all firearms included under the ban were designed with an explicit purpose to “kill the largest amount of people in the shortest amount of time.”

“You don’t need an AR-15 to bring down a deer,” Trudeau said.

But retailers and distributors say the prohibition list appears to have been hastily assembled, arbitrarily excluding or including firearms while leaving Canadian companies stuck with millions in unusable inventory. An industry association is now calling on Ottawa to reimburse those firms by as much as $1.1 billion and clarify the apparent discrepancies.

(It would suit LIE-berals if most gun shops DISAPPEARED and if the price of a gun in any remaining shop SOARED out of reach of most Cdns! LIE-berals are hoping that economic hardship will do what LIE-beral legislators CANNOT!)

“Minister Blair is either too inept to comprehend the scope of his regulations… or he lied to the government and Canadians,” the Canadian Sporting Arms and Ammunition Association (CSAAA) said in a statement on Tuesday.

(It seems that LIE-berals find Fake News to be highly useful in many situations!)

Alison de Groot, the managing director at the CSAAA, said some manufacturers are preparing to push back against the regulations, saying they prohibit certain firearms while allowing their competitors — often based in foreign countries — to continue selling in Canada.

“I’m sure they’re going to launch some kind of protest because their firearms are on the list while other firearms with very similar characteristics are not on the list,” she said. “The list was incoherent.”

(Forcing people who LIE-berals do not approve of - to WASTE scarce dollars on a legal challenge is another preferred LIE-beral tactic! In fact LIE-berals also make tactical use of govt grants to lobbyists and pressure groups to ensure that controversial policies that LIE-berals LIKE but feel shy about publicly supporting for fear of losing votes - get MORE PROMINENCE than they deserve! Fake News is a reliable LIE-beral tool!)
