They teach us in wilderness survival, for a charging black bear, to aim for the cranium and don't use hollow point and nothing smaller than 44 Magnum.
When I was prospecting my bullets were hard cast tin based Babbitt alloy.
I was lucky enough never to have to use it on a bear!
You should have seen what those bullets did to the steel deflectors at the indoor shooting range under full loads!

You just have to realize that you only have to run a little faster than he does to escape...so you know what knee caps to shoot at. Bears are like sharks and lawyers...they are just drawn like magnets to a free lunch.
BTW. If anyone shoots a bear center mass and blows the bear's guts into its meat welll...they deserve to be eating store bought hamburger.
