Gun Control is Completely Useless.

With a gun you can stop many hearts all at once, and from a distance - which is demonstrated almost daily. Guns have no purpose other than to kill, to threaten with death or for sport. Anything that can be done to restrict their use to sport and the killing of animals - for food or in defense - improves public safety.
Hand guns have no other design criterion than to kill human brings at close range. They work best if you can look into the victim's eyes.

... not for bear hunting.

That's all terribly dramatic.

In truth some folks who have to work in the bush, perhaps alone, carry a handgun for protection from animal attack. Although not the best weapon for the purpose it's reasonably convenient to carry and potentially more effective than nothing. It's a totally logical reason to carry a hand gun though I'm not sure it's legal. (If it was me I'd carry it loaded :))

I live on Vancouver Island north of Campbell River. Everyone I know works in or lives in the bush. Nobody carries a hand gun. Nobody wants a gun that is better than nothing. You want to find a hand gun you would go to a tavern in Campbell River.

That's where hand guns are appropriate.

I have fired pistols a fair bit and have some formal training in their use and maintenance and you'd better be Buffalo fecking Bill if you think that you're going to save yourself from wild animals with a firearm that has a barrel a few inches long. You will only get a clear chance to kill an attacking animal during the last couple of seconds of your own life, if everything goes well for you. There is an equal chance that you'll just piss the Grizzly off that much more.

Whatever you saw on television ... you know, shooting the bad guy dead with a pistol from fifty yards away is pure fiction ... lighting bolt odds at making a shot like that.

It is not dramatic to say that pistols are a close range weapon. That is what they are and only a cruel maiming lamebrain would consider one for hunting animals, thus it is meant to kill humans at close range ... less than 20 meters if you are REALLY skilled.

The fact that you don't know about something or somebody is a poor test of whether they exist, or carry a handgun in the bush. I know of folks who do. I don't suppose they'd much care what you imagine they should want.

Sorry to hear about the Campbell River 'Taverns' (?) - I'll stay away from them.

I have never heard of anyone shooting a bear with a pistol.

It sounds like a bad plan to me.

It sounds like a bad plan to carry a pistol just in case you have to hunt something to eat.

Alotta bear guides carry for protection
A .303 would be a far better bet.

Have you ever heard of an Inuit Hunter going off with a snub-nosed .38 in his anorak pocket? ... or a hand gun of any description?

TV culture.

.303s will stop a Polar Bear IF you are good at using one.

20th anniversary of the Columbine shootings. Not sure why this one has become so iconic but it has.

I believe this one resulted in the enhanced background checks in America which - all the NRA types will point out - has failed to stop mass shootings. Dylan Roof go his gun when the FBI failed to complete his background check in time and he took it to a church and killed 9 black people.

They say they have stopped 1.3 million weapons sales so who really knows how much harm they have prevented - but surely it must be some.

But mass shootings - school shootings - have become a thing now in America. To me its like the suicides in our northern community. It's something that spreads like a sickness.

I used to wonder why people on this forum used phrases like Fukk Off And Die Shithead. Now I get it.

Fukc Off And Die Shithead.

To those few here who try to carry on rational conversations, congratulations but I've had enough. Which was no doubt the objective of most who've responded to my posts.

To them: Fu*k Off And Die Shitheads.

I can't believe there's such a prudish aspect to this site that it won't print the proper spelling of Fukk or Feck or Fukc or F*ck. Talk abut hypocrisy!

Execute a copulatory departure and expire, excrement skulls.

Nope by law they must be carried unloaded in a gun case while riding on a quad by the time you get it out of the case loaded and aimed you are done for, holstered at the shoulder gives you a much better chance.

What exactly are you supposing to kill with a pistol? Rabid racoons? (Good luck with that, even)
