Sex and gender are not the same thing.

As for this question, IMO I think a sex based gender should be assigned at birth, but should be changed later when the person is old enough to know the difference between the gender assigned at birth and who they truly are, if it's applicable.

Or perhaps assigned at birth and left there!

What right does have to 'assign' a gender, or even sex, to someone?


Gender can't be known at birth as the baby can't tell anyone that no, they got it wrong (at least until science comes up with a way to show it pre-birth).

Making it flexible at least gives the newborn a chance to fix a mistake later. And hey, if the 'sex' matches gender, awesome.

That would make a LOT of sense since "M" and "F" have different needs and the census (if it's any use) is able to determine various "needs" that need filling.

Why does it matter to anyone else? One's gender identity is no one's business but your own and frankly, it should affect no one but yourself.
