Because these 6 countries represent values, they represent an economic market which has the weight of history behind it and which is now a true international force.

Trump responded by accusing Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of hurting the United States with unfair trade practices.

Expect the EU to use PM selfie as a useful idiot, he'll be thining "oh wow look at all the love the EU guys have for us,
surely they will come to help. "

Everyone knows the sanctions will hurt us a lot more then the Euroweenies.

I would love it if Trump showed up, took the mic, and said " When all of you are ready to publicly commit to

2% GDP on defense with in the next 2 years, then we can sit down and talk. Till then, piss off. "

Last I heard Merkel said the Germans 'might' be able to 2%........................ in 2030.

Allies indeed.

I'll defend Trump on this point. The purpose of the sanctions against Russia were to force it to return Crimea to the Ukraine. Unless we're prepared to declare war against Russia and take the necessary military action to take Crimea from Russia and return it to the Ukraine, then it's time to end the silliness of the trade sanctions and return to free trade with Russia.

I still think the G7 (or 8 ) is a waste of money. But if we're going to have it anyway, then adding one more delegation would still share the same security and facilities for the most part. Might as well.

We could say the same about North Korea. Unless we're prepared to escalate to a hot war to end the regime, it's time to trade with it.

I recently reread von Clausewitz's classic commentary On War.

He defined the characteristics of a great military leader as possessing a resolute character (immune from the resistance to unpopular and unconventional tactics), a geometric appreciation of space and movement (as opposed to a linear temporal logic), and, a keen sense for opportunity and risk.

Trump is a bold unconventional risk taker, someone undissuaded by the whinings of petty free market, amoral ideologues (Trudeau, Macron), and someone who can see through the shallow globalist sophistry to the catastrophic failure of Free Trade for ALL nations.

So when he misses meeting with Macron, spars with Trudeau on Twitter, refuses to discuss the nonsense pseudo science of AGW, and leaves early.. he's just proving himself a more durable leader than these lesser men. It is they who will be out of office as their own electorates rebel against them, before Trump wraps up his administration. And sets a sustainable nationalist framework as the basis for the global community... for the decades to come.

Trump is also a cowardly bully. Von Clausewitz would have spit in his face.

Are you saying that if each leader missed meetings with one another, sparred with one another, left meetings early, etc., that that would make them far more effective leaders? Have you ever held a private-sector job in your life?
