BTW it is the criminal justice system that has brought itself into disrepute by its inability to deliver justice.

Not like it wasn’t already viewed negatively by many. Hell there are quite a few threads here alone complaining about it.

The legal system is there to protect the rich from the poor and the middle class. Anybody who thinks native people get equal treatment under the law really need to get over their bigotry and pull their heads out of their butts.

Cliffy, that doesn't address the theme of the thread.

If you have taken your evening pills, then get your colouring book and sit at the kitchen table.

You have been told not to interrupt the grown ups.

I said take your colouring book. Leave the grown ups magazines alone.

If you are good, you can gum some ice cream.

I think you have two stereotypes at play here in this tragedy.

1) The white right-wing farmer just waiting to kill someone for entering his property.

2) The drinking native youths acting recklessly.

The first case is supposition. The second instance is fact.

I presume the jury rendered their decision based on the facts as instructed to by the presiding Judge.

The recklessness and stupidity shown by a sitting Prime Minister throwing out implication that a jury came to an improper decision is only eclipsed by the stupidity and dangerous actions of a sitting Justice Minister expressing similar implications. Our Justice system crucially depends not only on impartiality, but on the appearance of such. Neither one of these clowns can seem to comprehend this.

But the left wing ideologues are Trudeau's base are they not?

So he's just pandering to a group that helped get him elected. A group sadly, which has lost the ability to think in degrees.

Justice was not served and that has nothing to do with political affiliations. Anybody who is unbiased and looked into the facts of the case would see that it was a racially motivated murder and verdict. Although I dislike Trudeau, he is entitled to his opinion just like the rest of you jerks. Unfortunately, his comments were just lip service and hollow for its public display of compassion that he doesn't have.

Cliffy, you've just proven my point. You're a left wing ideologue who is unable to think rationally...to think in degrees.

Whose actions were more responsible for this tragedy on that day?

Stanley who was on his own property erecting a fence with his son? Or these youths who were drinking and driving...carrying a shotgun...stealing...and behaving recklessly?

Political commentary on court verdicts hurts views of justice system: lawyers

Linda Givetash, The Canadian Press
Published Sunday, February 11, 2018 6:33AM EST
VANCOUVER -- The public perception of political interference in criminal trials places the independence of Canada's judiciary system at risk, lawyers say.

Concerns have been raised following federal Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould's comments on the acquittal of a white farmer charged in the death of an Indigenous man in Saskatchewan.

Edmonton-based criminal lawyer Tom Engel said when politicians, especially the justice minister, appear to criticize verdicts, the public may believe that future decisions by the courts are influenced by the remarks.

Wilson-Raybould said in a tweet that Canada "can and must do better," after a jury found Gerald Stanley not guilty of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Colten Boushie.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also weighed in at a news conference Saturday, saying Canada has "come to this point as a country far too many times."

Given the comments these twits are making it will be a wonder in future if anyone can be found to do jury duty. It was just a direct affront to their ability and professionalism!

Eggs Zachary! :)

It would be nice when the day comes we can all just be Canadians with none of the bullshit about where we came from a thousand years ago. Equal rights and responsibilities for all!

No people looking at facts would not see that. People filled with hatred of their own and spouting angry nonsense on a message board may see it that way.

Anybody who knows anything knows that a jury trial is a crapshoot, which is why an appeal of a jury verdict would only be viable in rare cases such as jury tampering. The judge's instructions were very straight forward and could be understood by an 8 year old. So all the bombast of demanding an appeal is purely political and without legal basis. Any politicians jumping on this bandwagon only proves their lack of principles regarding our legal system.

It is no secret, however, that law schools in this country would prefer a system like the laughable excuse for a "Justice System" south of the border, where a prosecutor goes on national television spouting "evidence" that "proves" the accused is guilty, ala Nancy Grace, with no time given to defense. (Actions that in this country, for now at least, would get that person fired, disbarred, and possibly jailed). Is that what we really want?

It would be nice when the day comes we can all just be Canadians with none of the bullshit about where we came from a thousand years ago. Equal rights and responsibilities for all!

Won't happen until we can put the Marxist psychopathy that drives identity politics and post modernism into the scrap heap of failed ideologies. There is a hierarchy of victimhood whose members garner the most attention and action, and they are all jockeying for that number one spot. As long as they get their desired attention it will continue. They will never get their desired results because they will just move the goalposts, it is a game they actually can't afford to win. But we keep on giving in to them, kind of like throwing food scraps outside to keep the bears away. There is probably a definition of insanity in there somewhere.

You know when you buy a bag of salad, you're a hopelessly lazy loser who can't even make a freakin' salad.

To be fair, Stanley literally executed Boushie. Walked right up to him in the car and shot him in the head. That is NOT self-defense no matter how you slice it. I won't go so far as to say it was racially motivated though because I don't know and I'm not going to assume it was just because it's the "progressive" thing to do.
