No call for despair. No one on this forum today will be around when the ratio of electric cars reaches even 10%!
Anyone who is the least bit observant realizes how useless electric lawn mowers are! :)

Years ago, before fuel injection, cars had to turn fast to start.

What a lot of us had was a battery warmer to have optimum turning capacity.
I've see cars with dead block heaters start, just because they had a battery warmer!

fuel injection has been around since 1925 - what you meant to say was before the adoption of fuel infection.

in the 80s when I worked in northern alberta our trucks ran 24/7. we never turned them off and if they happened to shut down we would take a tiger torch and cook that engine until it was smoking and start it up again.

engineers have found ways to get liquid fuel powered engines to operate in extreme temperatures but getting an electric engine to do the same thing is beyond all doing. It is the Moon shot plus.

Yup.... a tiger torch inside a section of wood stove pipe so the truck doesn't doesn't catch fire....

Used to be standard equipment when going Ice fishing too

That looks expensive, those things don,t run on air you know, well yes they do but only if it,s thickend up with high octane meat and or fish.

Electric snowmobiles are going to be trialed in Whistler starting next season.

Apparently they are pretty good.

edit in - this will save lives. The noise the yahoos make racing those things around cause all sorts of trouble in the Alpine. Not to mention they are irritating. Same for boat motors and lawn mowers

Maybe 10%. For city commuters electric cars are a good option. Provided they have an SUV to go anywhere other than work.

Probably go like a raped Ape. I bet they beat any gas sled in a1/4 mile. But they will not run for 4 hrs. Straight which is required for anyone using them for work. This is the downfall of batteries so far, they simply take too long to charge and it never happens at a convenient time.

Like all electric engines the computer must work to reduce horsepower - just the opposite of the gas engine which must be made to develop horse power.

The story of Taiga is a great Canadian business story. I would encourage everyone in the country to get behind them.

It'll go like a raped ape just once down the 1/4 mile then back on the charger. Tesla's are famous for getting one good 1/4 mile time then it diminishes rapidly.

Gasoline engine go all day with full performance, can be parked all night with no cord and go all day again on the remaining 1/2 tank.

While sitting in the tire store today I came across a blurb in some off road mag. GM is making electric trucks for the army. A pickup type and a 5 ton. With with two electric motors but using hydrogen fuel cells. Unfortunately it didn't give any details.

Teslas are useless in winter.

From Hoid's article and shows a major issue with a Tesla. You have park in a heated garage or you can't charge it.

When the battery pack is below freezing the car will not permit charging, as this will damage the cells. One side-effect of this is that you also lose your regenerative brakes. This is shown by the yellow dotted line on the speedometer. If the car has cold soaked below freezing you may have no regenerative brakes whatsoever. Pay attention, because the car will really really coast - this can be very surprising the first time!!! You'll have to use the conventional brakes until the car warms up.

Even in Victoria you'd still need garage it.

If we have to build heated houses for our electric cars we'll definitely die from climate change.
