Jagmeet Singh isn’t a hypocrite. He is a great political leader who will not only become the NDP leader for sure, but hopefully someday Prime Minister too. Now don’t get me wrong, I like Trudeau a lot and wouldn’t mind a Liberal government under Trudeau for decades to come. I’m not a leftist but rather more of a liberal centrist with a libertarian streak. That means I prefer low taxes, small government, privatization as much as possible, maximum civil liberty, and overall a free market with free trade and an open door immigration policy. But I recognize that Jagmeet Singh is the strongest voice against racism and bigotry at the moment, and these are the most pressing issues of the day. As a fellow South Asian, I’m naturally inclined to Jagmeet Singh and sincerely hope he becomes more influential in politics. He’s still relatively young, 38 years old, and I can see he has a bright future in federal politics. We need more young, cosmopolitan, racial minority, charismatic figures like him. The NDP will pass into oblivion if it chooses anyone else besides Jagmeet. The NDP needs to acquire the support of people like me, young, Middle Class, South Asian visible minority, cosmopolitan, from the growing Peel Region of Ontario. Otherwise the NDP has no future, simple as that. At present, the NDP old timers are resistant to Jagmeet Singh for two reasons: 1. They simply don’t want a South Asian in command of their party, they use the excuse “Quebec won’t accept him”, but in reality, they themselves aren’t ready for a non-White at the helm, and 2. They claim Jagmeet isn’t radical leftist enough. But that’s actually a good thing. We need someone like Jagmeet to mainstream the NDP and bring it closer to the center, especially on economic issues.

A political science professor says a racist heckler that interrupted a campaign rally for NDP leadership hopeful Jagmeet Singh is an example of the discrimination that deters minorities from politics.

A video posted on YouTube of Singh’s campaign event in Brampton last week shows a woman interrupting his speech and accusing him of supporting Shariah law and the Muslim Brotherhood.

(The Muslim Brotherhood has been banned in most European countries and its even banned in some Muslim countries for their racist and violent policies. If Singh refuses to condemn them then HE is the bigot! As for the Cdn woman and her fears of Sharia Law-why would a woman not be concerned since Sharia Law will- if implemented here- turn her into a second class person in her own country of birth! So if Singh is the great supporter of tolerance and democracy that he claims to be then why would he not speak against Sharia Law- the Muslim system of belief and law that will erase about half of our Cdn constitution? How can he be silent in the face of such a threat? Unless either he supports it or he is so desperate to get elected that he is willing to sell us out in exchange for Muslim votes?)

Singh, who is Sikh, responds to the woman saying he supports and loves her, and that he won’t be intimidated by hate.

“Everyone in this room loves you, we all support you, we believe in your rights,” he said as she continued yelling at him in front of a crowd of supporters.

Erin Tolley, an associate professor at the University of Toronto, said the incident is a reminder that although Canada promotes multiculturalism, racist views are still prevalent.

“I think one danger in Canada is we become very congratulatory about our multiculturalism ... but to some extent that conceals the number of Canadians that harbour racist sentiments,” she said.

Muslim radicals see nothing wrong with wiping out much of our constitution and major chunks of our culture and civil rights just to satisfy their personal religious preferences- where is the tolerance in that?)

Tolley said studies have shown about 30 per cent of Canadians hold racist opinions and while they may not all be vocal about their views, it does influence how they vote.

Singh’s ability to keep calm and respond in a positive manner to the heckler is evidence that it wasn’t the first time he experienced outwardly racist remarks, Tolley said.

Although it was a negative incident, she said it did allow Singh to show off his leadership skills and raise his profile across the country.

Liberal politicization of immigration system gets even worse

Two weeks ago, I wrote that the federal Liberal government was playing partisan games with Canada’s immigration appeal system. In the name of transparency and objectivity, the Trudeau government was refusing to renew the appointments of any immigration judges who were male or who had been appointed by the Harper government.

(Holier than thou LIE-berals are now discriminating on gender grounds!)

That meant immigration appeal offices across the country would have too few adjudicators to handle the current case load.

Offices in Vancouver and Calgary, which are responsible for all of Western Canada, are dangerously understaffed. Instead of the 11 judges who normally hear appeals from Winnipeg to the West Coast, by July there will be just two judges left while the Trudeauites search for enough loyal Liberal visible-minority and female appointees to take up the slack.

I predicted if this vacuum persisted, the appeal process in Western Canada would grind to a halt and last Wednesday that prediction came true. Without any fanfare, the federal Immigration department confirmed that there is such a shortage of judges that the immigration appeal division -IAD, “will be able to schedule only a limited number of oral hearings … west of Ontario for at least the next six months.” Probably longer.

In the interim, “the IAD will focus its efforts on resolving as many appeals as it can without an oral hearing.” That’s lovely, but an oral hearing is needed in the most suspicious cases.

Where applicants are the subject of a deportation order because they have committed a crime, or where they are suspected of entering into marriages of convenience simply to sneak a spouse into the country or when they have filled out fraudulent application forms, it is very risky to pencil-whip their approval to stay in Canada. A trained immigration judge should first look them in the eye while he or she hears the details of their cases and asks pertinent questions.

(But LIE-berals have already- after the Oct/ 2015 election- LIE-berals began culling the ranks of immigration judges that ask probing questions of immigrants they suspect are lying! LIE-berals have disposed of many judges on political grounds- for holding suspect views on either immigrants or on LIE-beral policy!)

But I suppose if your top priority for our immigration system is to let in as many people as possible, regardless of their qualifications or possible terror ties, and your second priority is to cram the judges’ chambers with dutiful Liberals who will rubberstamp the party line, then whether or not the IAD provides an adequate filter is irrelevant to you. And that seems to be precisely what the Liberals are doing, especially west of Lake of the Woods.

(The LIE-beral immigrant selection process is apparently confined to whether the applicant can accurately identify a LIE-beral and offer slavish electoral support!)

This is unfair to new Canadians who have been waiting for a hearing for as many as four years already and may now have to wait another year or two. Their lives and the lives of their families will now be on hold even longer while they wait to learn their fate.

It is also unfair to Canadians as a whole. Not only will the cost to taxpayers go up as delays drag on, but there is also a very good chance that the courts will eventually say many applicants have been here so long- six to eight years by the time the Libs find enough sycophants to populate the appeals boards- that it would be unconstitutional to remove them.

(It is what is happening already with Cdn criminals- in mid June 2017- Cdn courts quietly released SEVEN ACCUSED MURDERERS because they could not be offered a trial within a reasonable time! Talk about getting away with murder!)

There may also be a third, even more sinister motive behind the Liberals delaying tactics. At least two sources with direct knowledge of the Liberals’ long-term immigration strategy confirm the Trudeau government is considering a general amnesty in 2018 for most outstanding immigration and refugee claimants.

How convenient. If that happens, that could mean 100,000 or more new voters before the next federal election in 2019, and all of them extremely grateful to Justin Trudeau and the Liberals.

(And some skeptics think I am unreason able in suggesting LIE-berals have GROSSLY selfish motives? HAHAHAHAHAHA!)

There’s an easy solution to this. The Libs should just reappoint all the judges they have effectively dismissed.

(Oh that will NOT do- as LIE-berals can not reappoint the judges because LIE-berals are on record as saying that Conservative appointed judges ask to many hard questions of immigrants and when they don’t like the stupid answers the judges refuse to let the dorks become Cdns and thus thwart LIE-beral policy!)

I never said I'm a libertarian, but rather that I have a libertarian streak. Even the Conservative Party isn't as libertarian as you think. In fact, they love to increase military and police spending, which libertarianism opposes.

Furthermore, I'm not a registered member of any political party. But for me, the problem of racism and attacks on multiculturalism are more pressing than any economic issues. This is why I prefer a Liberal or NDP government, even if I'm not exactly a fan of either's economic policies and platforms. As a racial minority that is South Asian and Muslim, I don't have the luxury to be immediately concerned about the budget, taxes or size of government. I will simply express support for that politician who is most beneficial to my community.

An open door immigration policy is what Canada needs. We need cheap labor and we also need skilled labor. We actually have one of the more restrictive and tough immigration systems of the developed world. We need to relax it and allow for millions of more immigrants, especially skilled immigrants from Asia. We could also benefit from more unskilled labor from Mesoamerica since America is closing its door to them. We will benefit from this economically and also socially. When you say what Canada wants, you are talking about the declining majority of old White people. That is the old Canada, we are working on strengthening a new Canada.

I would argue that with a good economy, racism becomes a none issue.

With the greatest respect to Justin Trudeau, Liberal MP Iqra Khalid and the federal Liberal caucus, it’s none of your damn business whether I have a fear of Islam, which is what “Islamophobia” means.

As a Jew, my fear of Islam -- pertaining specifically to that malignant and widespread strain of it that hates Jews -- is completely rational.

(As more light is focused on Muslim values it has become clear that a good many Muslims believe they are `OWED` control of the Middle East as promised in a covenant with Allah and that any sort of Jewish/Israeli authority in the region is not just a secular offense but a religious one as well. For Muslims with such a belief there can NEVER be peace in the Middle East until all Jewish power is broken. This is an added reason for Muslims to view anybody who aides Jews in battle against Muslims as THE ENEMY of Allah!)

But even if it was irrational, it is not the business of the government to tell me how I should FEEL about anything.

That’s what dictatorships- many of them Islamic, which have driven Jews out of their countries- do.

In a democracy, the proper role of government is to prevent me from ACTING in a bigoted manner towards Muslims because of my feelings, regardless of whether they are rational.

(And is it not disgraceful that LIE-beral senators will scorn Tarek Fatah as some sort of liar for pointing out to a senate committee some of the poison being preached at Cdn Mosques! In the modern era alone, I can draw a line from the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini, siding with Hitler and the Nazis in the Second World War, starting in November, 1941, to Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, calling the Jewish state of Israel a “fake” nation and a “dirty chapter” of history on Tuesday.

I can quote from the 1988 Jew-hating charter of Hamas, the elected government in Gaza, which says: “Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it ...

The weekend triumph of Jagmeet Singh as the new leader of the federal NDP was unprecedented in many respects.

Gone was the old policy-driven NDP of the Ed Broadbent days.

The new NDP is all about pizazz and style, not substance, where religious orthodoxy and militancy are viewed as progressive and revolutionary.

“How did someone with no name recognition outside of Brampton defeat sitting caucus members you ask?” wrote my friend, Liberal Party backroom operative Omar Khan, in the Sun Tuesday.

He suggested Singh won, “Partly because the era of old-school brokerage politics dominated by party insiders is coming to an end.”

I disagree. I’d argue a major reason Singh won is that his NDP opponents and the media dared not ask him tough questions about Sikh nationalism and his reluctance to denounce the Air India bombers.

But sooner or later, it had to happen.

On Singh’s first day of work as NDP leader Monday, veteran CBC journalist Terry Milewski interviewed him on Power and Politics.

According to tweets by Milewski, Singh initially demanded to see the questions to be asked of him prior to the interview, or he’d cancel it. When this was refused, Singh reconsidered and agreed to be interviewed.

Here is a synopsis of a key exchange, where Singh danced around a simple question put to him four times by Milewski:

Milewski: Do you think that some Canadian Sikhs go too far when they honour Talwinder Singh Parmar as a martyr of the Sikh nation … when he was the architect of the Air India bombing? Do you think that’s appropriate?

(Parmar, while never convicted of the 1985 mid-air bombing of Air India Flight 182 in which 329 people died in Canada’s worst case of terrorism, is widely considered to have masterminded it. He was killed by Indian police in 1992.)

Singh: Well, I think it’s so important that we really clarify a misconception that exists. There has been a lot of work ... to be creating a conflict that’s between Hindus and Sikhs, and for me that’s something that really offended me ...

Milewski: Forgive me, but you could do that right now by saying, ‘no, it isn’t appropriate to put up posters of Canada’s worst ever mass murderer as a martyr.’ Do you think that’s appropriate?

Singh: Let me ... just clarify a point here. It is so important that we rid this notion that there has ever been a conflict between Hindus and Sikhs …

Milewski (interrupting): For the third time I am asking, it is not a hard question ... is it appropriate …

Singh: Let me finish my sentence …

Milewski: What about putting up posters of Parmar, the architect of the Air India bombing, as a martyr? Is that appropriate? Yes or no?

Singh: It is so unacceptable that the violence that was committed ... I regularly denounce it on the anniversary ... there is no question about this, that innocent lives were killed, and it is completely unacceptable and needs to be denounced as a terrorist act.

Milewski: So you won’t denounce those posters of Parmar?

Singh: I don’t know who was responsible. But I think we need to find out who was truly responsible, we need to make sure that the investigation actually results in a conviction of someone who was actually responsible ...

Here was the new leader of the federal NDP repeatedly refusing to directly answer a simple question.

Not an impressive debut in his first day on the job.

A town on the Italian Riviera has been swept up in a scandal over absenteeism after it emerged that council employees were clocking on for work and then heading to the beach, to the shops or even back to bed.

A months-long covert investigation by police found that up to 75 per cent of council employees in San Remo, which is famed for its annual music festival and lies just across the border from Monaco and Nice, failed to show up for work.

Employees were secretly filmed punching their own cards and those of friends, and then skipping work for the day. One man regularly turned up for work, swiped his magnetic card, and then headed off to work at a flower shop run by his wife.

One man clocked on for work but then regularly spent the day rowing a skiff off the coast, enjoying the sunshine and views of the Riviera. He bunked off work at least 80 times in a period of a few months.

The staff members were secretly filmed by cameras installed by the Italian tax police, the Guardia di Finanza. A team of 150 officers raided the council’s offices on Thursday. They arrested 35 people, including a local police officer, and are investigating dozens more on charges of fraud and embezzlement.

Of 271 employees who were placed under surveillance, 72 per cent, or 195 people, were found to have been skiving off work. They worked in departments responsible for the town’s nursery schools, its registry office, the town police, public works and finance.

Council workers had shown “contempt for their jobs at a time when not having a job for many Italians is a cause for desperation”, said Alessia Ceccardi, a local prosecutor.

The investigation began in 2013 after Maurizio Zoccarato, the then mayor, told authorities that he suspected some of his employees were bunking off work.

"The Guardia di Finanza uncovered a heinous system," said Maria Paola Marrali, another prosecutor involved in the case. "How was it possible that a situation this serious was not noticed?"

The investigation had brought to an end "malpractice that had been going on for years", she said.

Alberto Biancheri, the mayor of San Remo, who was not caught up in the investigation, said: “We will take a hard line against those who are shown to have behaved improperly. Sadly we now find ourselves with offices that are devoid of any employees. The council is in danger of grinding to a halt.”

Seventy five percent of their workforce goes to the beach on any given day instead of working and the mayor is worried that town business may not be done in a timely manner now that Hogs have been fired?
