Mika Brzezinski on Trump’s Twitter attack: ‘It does worry me about the country’

The morning after being viciously attacked by President Trump on Twitter, MSNBC co-host Mika Brzezinski said she wasn’t exactly reeling as a result of the president’s vulgar and deeply personal social media assault.

But, she said Friday on “Morning Joe,” she is concerned about what Trump’s tweets reveal.

“I’m fine,” Brzezinski said. “My family brought me up really tough. This is absolutely nothing for me personally. But I’m very concerned about what this once again reveals about the president of the United States.”

She added: “It does worry me about the country.”

Said her co-host, Joe Scarborough: “We’re okay. The country is not.”

Trump lashed out at the MSNBC co-hosts just after their show Thursday morning, calling Brzezinski “low I.Q. Crazy Mika”— and claiming she “was bleeding badly from a facelift” when she and Scarborough came to Mar-a-Lago — the president’s private club in Palm Beach, Fla. — three nights in a row late last year.

Trump also referred to Scarborough as “Psycho Joe” in his tweets, which caused an immediate and sustained uproar.

Brzezinski and Scarborough were scheduled to start a vacation Thursday afternoon, but delayed it to discuss the president’s attack.

I tuned in and out of CNN last night and they must have spent at least 75% of the day's coverage on this one tweet. This at a time when North Korea, Syria, health care, travel restrictions, trade, coal, nuclear power and infrastructure all were topics with major news worthy developments.

The standard mantra of Trump being 'unpresidential' or 'insensitive' was deemed more critical to the American public than all of these other issues which actually affected their lives. This is standard for the media and political establishments; to elevate an utterly trivial issue into some kind of symbolic bete noire of Trump.

It didn't work in the election campaign and its not working here. Everyone realizes Trump wakes up in some kind of altered attack mode state in the morning, throws out a bunch of irrelevant tweets and then gets on with his promised agenda.

Maybe we can just all agree that Donald Trump is not a 'sensitive guy' but seems to be proving himself to be a capable and effective President and leave it at that.
