Fracking and earthquakes: Is there a connection?

No. Just as there's no link between coalmining and earthquakes.

We need fracking.

End of.

Fracking may not be as financially viable as its proponents claim, says Oxford energy report...

"Having been mostly ignored outside industry publications, the report by Ivan Sandrea details the haemorrhaging of money by the majority of energy companies involved in what is often referred to as the ‘shale gas revolution’. This ‘revolution’ involves the exploitation of unconventional fuels through techniques such as hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, and has come at great financial cost to many of the companies involved.

According to OIES’s report, the companies invested in shale gas and tight oil have had to write-down close to $35 billion since wide-scale development of these fuels sources began in the US. This essentially means that since 2006, there has been a massive devaluation of these companies’ fracking-related assets."

maybe not
lol
mirth quake!

The amount of easy oil these nut bars have capped up north is absolutely mind blowing
this IS a screw job

"It's well and good that Congress vote to stop filling the US Strategic Oil reserve because the US already has billions of barrels in the ground in Alaska--entire oil fields capped and drilled, but kept off the market. The filling of the Strategic Petroleum reserve is merely one more attempt to keep fuel in short supply."

IMHO
The fracking will prolly stop when the current offshore oil glut disappears and the rising price makes for the setting up of a financial killing for the Arctic oil reserves

Are you advocating water can make voids of they simply seep through fractures and fill up the voids. Libyan aquifers and California aquifers will do as present examples.
The Grand Canyon is an example of a void that is at the surface. Here is an even bigger example but the same principal applies.

"The Courrieres mine disaster in France, with a total death toll of 1,099, is the second deadliest coal mining disaster in history. The coal mining catastrophe occurred on 10 March 1906 due to a massive explosion sparked by an underground fire in one of the pits of the Courrieres Colliery.

The fire was detected around 270m underground in the Cecil pit in afternoon the day before the explosion. The outlets of the pit were closed to starve the fire of oxygen.

The next morning a huge explosion emanated from the still-smouldering fire at the pit and caused a blast on the surface. Workers inside the mine's deep tunnels, as well as people on the surface, were killed in the disaster."

Does mining cause earthquakes?

Tremors just like fracking. Tremors.

If you happen to live in a seismically active and dangerous zone where tremors and earthquakes are common, people use the word tremor when the intensity of the earthquake is smaller and the effects are limited to trembling and shaking of the earth. The word earthquake is used when the intensity of the seismic activity is high, and there is considerable damage of property and lives.

But that takes all the drama out of it.

Scientists: Earth Endangered by New Strain of Fact-Resistant Humans

MINNEAPOLIS (The Borowitz Report)—Scientists have discovered a powerful new strain of fact-resistant humans who are threatening the ability of Earth to sustain life, a sobering new study reports.
The research, conducted by the University of Minnesota, identifies a virulent strain of humans who are virtually immune to any form of verifiable knowledge, leaving scientists at a loss as to how to combat them.
“These humans appear to have all the faculties necessary to receive and process information,” Davis Logsdon, one of the scientists who contributed to the study, said. “And yet, somehow, they have developed defenses that, for all intents and purposes, have rendered those faculties totally inactive.”
More worryingly, Logsdon said, “As facts have multiplied, their defenses against those facts have only grown more powerful.”
While scientists have no clear understanding of the mechanisms that prevent the fact-resistant humans from absorbing data, they theorize that the strain may have developed the ability to intercept and discard information en route from the auditory nerve to the brain. “The normal functions of human consciousness have been completely nullified,” Logsdon said.

Fracking ain't got nuthin to do with Earthquakes but the primitives keep wishing it does.
Uh yeah, it does. Fracking near a fault line can certainly cause the fault to slip before its time.
In fact, it was the Swiss who first encountered, or at least recognized this problem when fracking for geo-thermal power.

Ummmmmm. NO! They weren't fracking. Geothermal drills to depth and that's it. There is zero need for fracking.

Green energy gone a wry.

Years ago, when I was researching for a uni paper, I came across an article that said the moon used to be 25% larger (some scientist's estimate). It postulated that aliens had been searching for something under the moon's surface and, because of hydraulic fracturing, released moon oil into space. Since there is no gravity on the moon, the oil floated away and became what we now know as 'black holes'.

Because the moon oil was displaced, that left voids which caused the surrounding soil to shift. This made the moon physically smaller.

That's the danger with what we now call fracking. It will displace gases and liquids, some of which will allow the earth to shift and collapse upon itself. We could be living closer to places like China, should that happen. For a better understanding of oil and its importance to the earth, click on the link.

When tectonic plates shift, other things can happen. It could send our fresh water to the US or let it run into the Pacific. Vancouver Island could float away to California or Japan. Regina could be moved, as the plates readjust, and end up in Oklahoma, for example.

Severe deformities to the earth can also result. A major collapse might cause the earth to change from being round to a banana shape. This would alter the atmosphere, and make it colder or hard to breathe on the ends, where you grab the skin to peel it. And what would happen to the satellites in orbit around a banana shaped earth?

They are walking a dangerous road!

There are two obvious ways to answer this. One is to research the number of quakes in a region prior to fracking and then compare them to the number now. The second is to ask the oil industry about fracking and then assume the opposite of the answer.

It is pretty much a given that corporations and politicians lie through their teeth about everything. Profit is their only god and they will lie, cheat, steal and murder their way to their goals. Capitalists are vampires, sucking the life blood out of the Earth and its inhabitants. Time for revolution.
