“I believe that Abraham is the patriarch of Jews, Muslims and Christians,” he said, adding he thought there ought to be a shared celebration. “It’s such a beautiful thing to do.”
Premier Wynne spoke at the service, thanking the Imans who lead the prayers, and referenced their prayers in her speech.
“The Lord did not put us on this planet to divide and harm each other… The Lord put us on this planet to help, include each other… in all institutions, like this one, which is an emblem of inclusion,” she said, referring to the Abilities Centre.
She noted that aside from first nations people, everyone in Canada has come from somewhere else, acknowledging Syrian refugees in attendance as the most recent people to come to Canada.
“It’s wonderful you are here,” the Premier said. “We want you to be successful in the way our grandmas and grandpas were, and that means we have to work at it.”
Rama, one of the refugees, who came from Peterbourogh, said she was happy to be at an Eid celebration and that it was different to see how it was celebrated here from in Syria.
