The status quo needs a good swift kick in the knackers. Teachers can't possibly be radical enough.

I believe I experienced the first teachers' strike in Canadian history, (I might be wrong though). It lasted from November into the new year if I remember correctly. The OSSTF were no friends of the government and vise versa. But governments have realized the two rules: #1 - Get elected. #2 - get re-elected. Unions used to fund parties they favoured, mostly the NDP, (ours supports certain parties but does not use members' money to fund them, and never has). Now it seems the reverse is true seeing that it is becoming illegal in most jurisdictions for parties to accept donations from unions and corporations, directly anyway. Governments seem to think its now acceptable to pacify their largest voting blocs to garner favour, i.e. using our money as a bribe to vote for them, and it seems to work too. Woe to us in the small voting blocs.

I'm not so sure they're not told to teach that. I have helped with my kids' homework and was at odds with some of the curricula, and what they wanted for answers to some questions.
