They are supposed to spend for the benefit of ALL citizens...

No, you are mistaken.

uhuh Just keep thinking that. Corporations do not lobby gov'ts to hand them favours or anything of the sort. They do not spend millions on lawyers to figure out how to dodge taxes and exploit loopholes in laws and they do not suck up subsidies from gov't
.

Of course they do. Your mistake is in viewing corporations as some inanimate object instead of a collection of people. Don't fret though. This isn't the first time you've been wrong.

I never understood the logic of that when it came to certain sports. Players used to sponsor the Atlantic Formula Racing Series. I don't even know if that series still exists in Canada once it lost it's primary sponsor.
But this is what got me, tobacco companies could no longer sponsor racing events however breweries and distilleries can. Personally I find it odd that alcohol producers can sponsor events where people are behind the wheels of some rather powerful cars and trucks but tobacco companies can't.

Give it a couple of years and likely they will be banned from sponsorship as well. Soon you will only have the Organic Vegetable Racing Series and stuff like that.

As a non-smoker, I never knew the Benson&Hedges Carnival of Fire was sponsored by a tobacco company (till the name changed). The brand meant nothing to me, Players I recognized because they used to advertise heavily in a certain men's magazine I read on occasion (for the articles) as a youth. But I didn't attend the Player's Indy and suddenly decide I needed a cigarette.

Nope. It is not a mistake. Corporations are not people. Perhaps corporations are composed of people but they are still not people. Their boards are composed of people but they are still boards.

I understand your silly view. Thankfully governments don't follow it though. Cities aren't people. They're just composed of people.

Cities get another round of infrastructure money - Ottawa - CBC News
That is correct. The fed did not give money to those people. The fed gave the money to the city corporation.
Does a corporation get its hair cut? Does it feel bad when it sees a mother lose her child? Does it feel bad when it feeds REAL people carcinogens?

I guess so. But, I post good sense and reason and you call me "silly". As Eurypides said, "Talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish." Evidently, you fit the pattern he was referring to.

Cannuck's pouty ad hominems aside, I sure as hell hope Trudeau did not mean spending as in the "Voice of Fire", snow-grooming for Quebec snowmobilers, CBC type of spending.

Stop being so silly. It's the governments job to spend tax dollars where people want their tax dollars spent.

Typical socialist.
It is the government's job to spend money on essential services. That means healthcare, infrastructure,{not 10 mil revamping a decrepit old house)military, education, providing a climate where business can make money so as to provide jobs.
What people want and what is best for them are not always the same thing.

No, its not. I understand you social conservatives aren't too keen on democracy but the people decide where to spend tax dollars by supporting parties that agree with their views. Rather than attacking democracy, why don't you try to convince people what to spend tax dollars on using common sense and reasonable arguments?

Oops, sorry...I forgot who I was talking to. Do you understand what "common sense" and "reasonable arguments" are?

Stop being so silly. Corporations are nothing more than people that get together and invest in a venture.

Corporations are "fictional legal entities given the same rights as a person under the law". That definition in itself implies a corporation is not actually a person(s). The venture is also private and for profit of a few instead of for the benefit of ALL citizens.

Can you point me in the direction of your "good sense and reason"? I'd like to check it out.
Anywhere you aren't! :p

You should read the constitution...Really...take a break from looking stupid and go spend a few hours reading. Then spend a few days reading it again with a law dictionary at hand. Then come back and discuss the mandated role of govt in Canada.

Hehehe... you've already entertained me with your vast knowledge of law but please, do continue.

To start with many of the people in Hollywood and other areas of movie making came out
of Canada over the years

Name these 'many'.
Only a few Canadians have make the big time in the U.S. and how did that benefit Canada? They now reside in the U.S., ply their trade there and pay their taxes there.
It's pretty stupid of Canada to pay to train them and then see them take off for the U.S.
The famous Canadian artists like Anne Murray and Gordon Lightfoot who stayed in Canada didn't need funding to get their start. They made it because they are incredibly talented.
A great many of the College graduates who cannot find work are graduates of Arts and Entertainment. It just isn't a big industry in Canada. Never was and never will be.
