Stuff like that happens a lot around here, too, PT. I think it's deplorable how the older seniors are treated in Canada. And the dollar is low so stuff that seniors need is indirectly more expensive yet their pensions are barely raised at the same rate as inflation. And it didn't help when Martin dumped a large amount of seniors programs just so he could play hero for a couple years. And the hospitals and extended care places run by gov't here are penny wise and dollar stupid.
When it comes time for my dad and mum, we'll do what we did for hubby's mum and look after them here instead of putting them through any gov't crap.
It all kind of fits into what I said I vote for and find very little of in gov't qualities.

I vote for life. I vote for humanity. I vote for trust, integrity, honour, honesty, courage, respect, compassion, generosity, moderation, etc. As far as politics goes, I should be extremely disappointed. But, like hubby says, "hope for the best and expect the worst" so I am never disappointed.
I am.

But this is Canadian politics and I'm American so it doesn't matter.

The politics of your country are bitter, corrosive, divisive and they tell me that the Civil War was never completely resolved. The choices may appear to be pretty lame, here but the debate is generally civilized in this country, inspite of recent attempts to import American style election tactics. Your country is in grave danger of shattering. I would have said the same of my country 30 years ago but appropriate concessions and structural changes were made and the danger has passed for the time being. I don't see the mechanism by which the profound ruptures in he US could be fixed.

I will vote for a party that will not raise my taxes, and will not end income splitting between me and my wife. That extra 2000 bucks in refunds this year was sweet. I'd have to have a hole in my head to vote for any other party. The bottom line is $$$. Always is, and always will be.

Anna, I was fortunate that my Dad died quickly. I took care of my Mom until I could do it no more. We were fortunate that Mom was able to get into a brand new home. That was not because of good management on our part. Mom lived in Saskatchewan where you are placed where they want you to go.Mom was in long term care for just over 3 years and I fought, tooth and nail to get things changed. You are right. We need to vote in people who have stated their positions on change, working with families. We are the ones who no best. I am so sad for the family who has a 90 year old woman leave her family, when she needs them most. No one should have to die alone.

Maybe, maybe not. People seem to come together in times of crisis, like the great depression , ww2 etc. There are more good decent people here than what the news print would lead many to believe. That is not a reflection of American society as a whole. Maybe take a road trip and talk with the heart of society, The workers, service people, etc. You may get a better idea that we are pretty much like anyone else. Not a reflection of the image.

I certainly understand that and am very thankful for what we have and hope we can keep it.

I believe each country has their benefits and drawbacks, for healthcare I believe we have a slight edge. I personally am very grateful for the healthcare the wife and I get for $130 a month. Good health is a person's most important asset.

our health care is not much unless you're in an elected official and then it's great. You're right about good health. without it, nothing else works very well.

I just hope you are in a position where you can afford good coverage through a private company. Actually if you can go that route you likely have more flexibility than we do. With us it's one plan fits all.........................as far as I know!

Yeah, a refreshing breath of clean air alright to be shared with 25,000 refugees by New Years who will be mainly dependent on us for all aspects of life. Do you really think Jr. is going to clean up the environment? There is nothing Honorable about a guy who runs up debt for others to pay off. We used to call those guys drones and parasites! Actually I have nothing in the world against Jr. - he's just a product of two dysfunctional people, who we've carried for 47 years!

I look for a party that looks after the interests of the people and not just corporations. Canada used to be a compassionate country, we looked after the sick, the infirm, the elderly but the heartless cons and liberals started hacking away at our social safety net to finance the corporations, now that net is in tatters. The only ones to come close to being even interested in repairing the net are the NDP. But stupid people will always vote for their own short term gain and screw the disadvantaged.

I can only speak for myself but I've been very well looked after, probably to the tune of about $100 grand in medical services alone in the past 3 years. Is Gov't's job to actually look after people? What about when the demands out weight the budget? Kelowna has just added a new cardiac facility at a cost of $356 million. That place isn't treating hamsters or rabbits! :) What are corporations? Nothing more than a conglomerate of people who take care of a wad of other people.

I'm voting against the greatest evil in Canada, Harpo. Whoever has the best chance to unseat the Con Party candidate.
Oh My God! The ghost of In Between Man (Alleywayz) just jumped out of the past and gave me a red! I think I better go to church first thing tomorrow and pray for forgiveness..... Ya Right!

I can't vote for the PM, none of the party leaders are running in my riding (and never have), so I make my choice based on my assessment of the local candidates. I look for evidence of compassion, commitment, intelligence, knowledge, selflessness, concern for others, and those faded Victorian virtues like duty, honour, loyalty, respect, service... which means I've never voted for the right in my life, and a man who can say that at my age seems unlikely to fall from grace in future. Fortunately the strategic vote and my conscience vote in my riding point to the same candidate, so I don't have to think about holding my nose and voting for someone I don't really like much just to get the loons out. This whole campaign Harper's been telling me who and what I should be afraid of and that only he can save me from them, which I find to be a deeply insulting and offensive strategy.

Don't want to piss on your parade there, Dex, but I'm not sure how many and to what degree the qualities you mention are relevant to Gov't. Isn't the role of Gov't confined to a very few main things..................enacting and enforcing legislation, setting standards and enforcing them (weights and measures etc.) , role of watchdog and care of marginalized people, steward of the land and that's about it!

Oh My God! The ghost of In Between Man (Alleywayz) just jumped out of the past and gave me a red! I think I better go to church first thing tomorrow and pray for forgiveness..... Ya Right!

One "red"!!! How will you contend with the shock? That other idiot has probably given me a dozen in the past week alone, but that is excellent as they say more about him than they do about me. Actually I feel honored that he's chosen me to highlight his idiocy. :) :)

At risk of not answering the question I would like to see a little more decorum from the candidates. Even this morning (I thought campaigning by law was to end at midnight) I hear Mulehair still whining about both Harper and Jr. Jr. has done his share too- we want to hear what the f**k they are going to do, not how bad the other guy is. To Harper's credit he's done a tiny bit less whining. It's too bad we still don't have a clue as to how many jobs Jr. will create or the location of them. My son is in the job market right now and he has no more knowledge than he did a month ago. Anyway I'm still faintly expecting Harper to pull through!

It is not the red that is a shock, it is that Alleywayz has been AWOL for over three years and he just popped out on nowhere without saying a word. Oh, you don't think I didn't get a fist full of reds from Wally. He is still butt hurt from me saying I thought he was an assh0le weeks ago.

I get very few from Walter now (maybe I need to put in a good word for you) :) Fat head is a different matter. :) :)
