Tima Kurdi’s pleading letter to allow brother to enter Canada revealed

While the brother is not named in the letter, an official in Donnelly's office confirmed that Kurdi specified in an attachment to the letter that she and her family were sponsoring Mohammed and his family, but that the attachment does go over the family histories of both Mohammed and Abdullah.

The attachment tells of the family's journey from Damascus to Istanbul, including an encounter with Syrian rebels.

The official said Donnelly also followed up with Alexander in April, "seeking any opportunity" to bring the brothers and their families to Canada.

But what do you think mentalfloss? When you multiply this case by the already millions upon millions of displaced in the last three decade and those to come in similar numbers it seems, what do you think mentalfloss? What about the already dead milloions in those same years. The subject is smothed out by dwelling on one families pain. Belittled even.

You are the media mental floss adress the crisis or stop your news casts.

That's not an answer. Look up "murder" in the dictionary, and tell us how this is murder.

Or you can just admit you had a bout of arm-waving dwama, and go back to your steady diet of hating Mr. Harper.

Not a biggie T-bones, there's always people around who get a little mileage out of hysterics. The basic truth isn't quite good enough!

All-leader meeting needed to reach consensus on migrant crisis: Trudeau

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau is calling on the federal party leaders to put politics aside and hold an unprecedented meeting to reach a Canadians consensus on the Syrian refugee crisis.

Trudeau also said he would support sending Canadian military planes with security and immigration officials to Jordan, Lebanon and Syria to airlift Syrian refugees out of the region, as it did in 1979 with the Vietnamese boat people.

Speaking to CTV’s Question Period, the Liberal leader said it’s time for the party leaders to meet and craft an improved Canadian response.

“We’re not doing enough. I think everyone can agree that we need to do more,” said Trudeau. “I think it goes to the kind of country we are. We are a country that has successfully welcomed in people in the past.”

And he thinks the Canadian public would support airlifting Syrian refugees out of the region.

“I think we definitely need to start putting people on the ground to process directly,” said Trudeau. “We should be doing that more often with the kinds of case workers that have been very, very effective for Canada in years past.”

NDP senior campaign advisor Brad Lavigne said Leader Tom Mulcair would be open to sitting down with the other leaders to discuss a response to the crisis. Summa Strategies’ Michele Austin skirted the question when asked if the Conservatives would also agree to a meeting.

The focus on the campaign trail shifted from the economy to the refugee crisis this week, after a photo of a drowned Syrian boy, three-year-old Alan Kurdi, whose aunt lives in B.C., surfaced on the internet and captivated the world.

Haven't we heard enough of Jr.'s stupid ideas already. With him in office we'd be out of money in a month. But then I guess the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree! :)

Hasn't the idiot noticed already what kind of country we are? ...........................Chronically in debt, chronically short of employment for our own people, Chronic long line ups for routine medical procedures, Inadequate housing and nutritious food on many Indian reserves, lack of facilities for aging and infirm member of our populace. Need I go on? He wouldn't get it anyway.

How about the 27 civilians bombed by a Canadian Forces jet?

What makes you think they were civilians? Could have been supporters since they were not lifting a finger to get the terrorists out of the hood.
Oh right they were packing signs in english saying they were civilians.

More politicking. He doesn't give a rats a-s-s about the refugees anymore than he gives a rats a-s-s about the Blue Jays. Its a photo-op and an opportunity for his lemings to 'spread the word'.

It's all a game about saying the right things in front of the right people to the right people. You got to appreciate the humour in it. When you are involved in politics you can never be your own man.

Manitoba premier, asks feds to double refugee sponsorship cap

Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger added his voice to those of provincial and municipal leaders calling for immediate action from the federal government on the Syrian refugee crisis.

"We think we can double the number of people we can take in the refugee category," Selinger said in an interview on Sunday on CBC News Network's Power & Politics.

"We've been capped for several years at about 500 on the public side. If the federal government would lift the cap on public sponsorship, we'd be willing to do even more. It's always been our objective to have more people come into Manitoba."

Immigration is a federal issue. Provinces have lobbied the government for more say over immigration and refugee issues, but currently only Quebec has control over its own immigration policies.

Selinger called the federal position on immigration "a barrier" and said the country's premiers, through the Council of Federation, have asked for the cap to be lifted all categories of immigrants, including refugees.

"If the public cap was lifted, we could do more and have more support for people," he said.

Selinger said he is confident Manitoba could handle an increased influx of refugees.

"We think we can absorb the people very readily, both in the health care system, in our schools, social service agencies. We're not worried about that at all, quite frankly."
Selinger added that he hopes to see more co-operation between federal and provincial levels of government.

"It always works better in this country when the federal and provincial governments collaborate and enter into partnerships," he told host Rosemary Barton.
