We are in recession and the Harper ideology is now exposed he said we were fine
we are not. If we went into a depression which we won't it would be worse than any
before. Harper won't allow Oliver to answer the questions people have because he
has not intention of speaking to the people with anything meaningful.
Now is the time to change the way we do things. We gave him ten years and he did
the opposite. Government is not open to the people our institutions are more
closed and in some cases near being corrupt the police for example, The Senate is
well we all know what the Senate is a nest of Conservative vipers
I usually listen to all sides at election time this time however I have made up my mind
for better or worse lets give Mulcair a chance We have had 148 years of Tories and
Liberals and look at the mess they have made over time

wherever i sit down my ars
We'll get through it.
I'm reminded of the stories Grandma told me of how it was in east Texas in the thirties. None of the kids could go to school as everyone had to work when they could doing anything they could find to put some food on the table and a roof over their heads. If they were lucky enough to be able to afford a ham it was beans and taters and red eye gravy most of the time. I think my dad went as far as the fifth grade. He did manage to learn how to read a little. Eventually they migrated westward as many did in those days looking for a better life. My friend Charles who is much older than I shared with me his thoughts that after ww2 came 40 years of the most prosperous times in history, especially in my country. I wonder how many of us would react given a similar situation as the great depression. As for my family,,,who are all gone now, they pulled together and somehow made it through. Who knows what society would be like if the privileges they've enjoyed disappeared.

I think it would be total freakin' chaos for a few weeks, maybe months, especially in the cities. Eventually, people would organize, learn to cooperate and help each other through. But at this point, it is all about "Me" and it will take some time before it becomes about "Us".

We shouldn't be in it.

Any idea who could have prevented it? It's world situation and unless we'd be better off w/o ties to other countries there's not a damn thing anyone can do about it other than reviewing and making changes to our own financial situation. Your own personal budget is your best defence.

If you are going to put your trust in the Dippers just protect yourself by putting about $200 a month into a dedicated bank account. You are going to need it.

Actually if the kids today had to give up a year or two of schooling to work to help put grub on the table, the education they would glean from it would be far superior to what they are being taught in school today. These easy times we've been experiencing for the past few decades don't do anyone much good. It just propagates greed.

Yep, you have it pegged pretty close, Cliffy (the biffy man) :)

Did it save ON? No! Why not? What happens when enough is enough and interest rates jump by 5%?

Just watch the sh*t hit the fan when mortgage rates increase by 5%. There will be lots of houses for sale dirt cheap. I'm trying to get my mortgage whittled down before the sh*t hits the fan.

Today if we had a full blown depression there would not only be chaos
there would be a revolution. People will not stand by and let their time
on this planet be destroyed by corporations and politicians without a
fight. Young people especially remember the political leaders, institutions
and even the police were by and large respected not so anymore.
I for one have diminished respect for governments and especially for the
police.
A full scale depression would lead to chaos and civil strife not to mention an
international war before it was over. Many of those big business guys who
jumped out the windows in the thirties would be hanging from them this time
courtesy of the general public.
Some say oh it won't be as bad. Well depression's take on a life of their own
and this one would put people against our very institutions they already loath
Not saying I am happy about it I just think the whole exercise would be fraught
with violence

People gather up and help each other instantly in a disaster. Your delirious image of cities in chaos is the complete opposite.

You are in the worst of situations where urbanites come to rescue you and take you to their world and make you count and roll nickles in a bank basement.

Everyone is getting far too overwhelmed about this blip in the economy- G.D.P. is off .2% for one month- B.F.D. Most of us are still eating 3 times a day and have a safe place to sleep at night. One big problem is people are after more and more money and it's reached the point now where $30 an hour isn't enough. It's a sick society. Of course the higher the wages the more the merchants are going to bilk us. Gas just went up another 9 cents a litre over night and I see people lined up at the pumps today. When things get really tough there will be no one at the pumps and then prices will drop to match the drop in oil. Greed is going to kill us eventually.

We're living higher on the hog today than at any other time in recorded history, that goes for 90% of us anyway and there's a few who are struggling. By the same token there's also more help available today. As long as we're seeing pampers instead of flannel diapers we know things aren't too bad.

It would be wise to make some sacrifices. I remember the early 80's all too well. Comparing now to then things are fine but one thing is stopping the heavy taxes and crazy interest rates on bonds to float the country like the past and that is oil.
