My cat and I have a deal, a covenant if you will. I love her. She loves me back. I sustain her. She has certain commandments she must follow:
1. Thou shalt not scratch the couch
2. Thou shalt not eat thine Human's food
3. Thou shalt use the litter box. To pee in the plants is an abomination.
She sins often, and provokes my wrath. She shakes her angry paws at me, but I forgive her.
I don't know what kind of relationship that is. Ask the Abrahamic god.
There are about 5000 religions in the world. Most professing to have the one true god. SOmeone is lying.

I believe the ancients needed to have something greater than themselves as a

Religion is one thing. God is another. Someone just figured out how to make a buck out of mixing them up
I don't think you've thought this through. Take Rastafarians or Scientologists for example. Two recently made up religions now followed by hundreds of thousands of people who believe them passionately. By your logic, I am narrow minded for dismissing both of these religions as ludicrous or do only religions that are older or have millions of billions of followers deserve equal consideration with science in your opinion?
There is nothing NOT "fluky" about nature. It is all about natural selection. From cancer to birth defects to mental retardation these are all natures attempts to keep improving us and trying different things. As an example, blue eyes randomly appeared about 8000 years ago in what is today Spain as a single mutation in a single person. While blue eyed people feel more pain they clearly reproduce successfully as the colour is an attractant passed to hundreds of millions today.
First of all the framework of how you choose to worship/communicate with God is your own choosing. The question simply put was do I or do I not believe in God -- creator of the universe, supreme power/overseer/designer? I do. As for the religion part of it, I am not one to tell you or anybody else how or which God they worship or do not. I expect the same courtesy in return (from everybody -- not specifically or even you).
And I do not find my religion and my spirituality and science to be contradictory or mutually exclusive.
Yeah, I guess the cell phone is a God to the masses now a days. That and the Idiot box have to be the two worst inventions of the 20th century!
